You said that Barty's magic is black and gooey, and I figured it might be because he's, first and foremost, a dark wizard. With that being said, do you think the colour of one's magic depends on the person? As in, does Evan's magic look different to Barty's? And if so, how does Evan's look? Is their magic perhaps even a reflection of their soul?
OMG I LOVE THIS. i'd never thought of this before, but yes, it makes perfect sense. like the way people taste, it changes from person to person when taking polyjuice potion.
barty's magic is definitely black and so so wet. a bit sticky, but the kind that slides off your fingers and leaves only a feeling of wetness on your skin. while evan's... i feel like it would have a pretty color, like an intense, a bit shiny blue. but it would be sooooo sticky and annoying, god. like gum on the sole of your shoe on a particularly hot day. and it's thick, very thick.
if a bucket of barty's magic were to fall on your head (like slime), your first instinct would probably be to gasp for air, and then maybe even throw up a little. if that happened with evan's magic, first of all it would hurt a little. and second, there's no way you'd get it out of your hair, which would make you swear despite the beautiful color. so yeah, their magic definitely represents their personality.
irene, my dear, before I forget to ask, I would love to hear about evan's catastrophic seventh year. And if someone already beat me to the punch, please enlighten me on the first murder.

evan! oh, poor evan, he's such a mess. a couple of things happen that completely destroy his ego, and he will never be able to recover.
he loses his eye during the summer. and we all know what that makes him: an insecure, nervous disaster. not to mention the months he spends trying to relearn how to live (or just walk) without an eye, how to close the wound that keeps reopening, how to look at himself in the mirror without feeling completely disgusting.
voldemort gives the mark to regulus instead of him. after all the sacrifices he made and the commitment he showed, he gets no recognition. he was so sure he was the best the dark lord could ever ask for. worst reality check ever.
he's kicked off the quidditch team because of his eye loss. he thought he could go to hogwarts and show everyone his worth, but instead, in his first match, a bludger hits him in the face (he didn't see it) and he's sent to the hospital wing. the new captain of the slytherin team isn't exactly the understanding type. when he wakes up, a nasty surprise awaits him.
bartemius crouch sr begins speaking out about the death eaters publicly and accuses evan's parents of collaborating with voldemort. thay are forced to flee, and evan is SUCH a mama's boy: the news devastates him.

Well, Sinful Melody is actually the only one I'm writing currently. It's the darkest in the list and the one that makes me the most uncomfortable to write.
Barty is a law student in this one and Evan is the new criminal law professor. He's mysterious, his past is a blank page and he's just... very disturbing. Barty, who has a strange pull to everything that's fucked up, gets intrigued, but what starts getting to him is the fact that Evan is not falling for his charms.
And in this fic, the town is a character as much as everyone else, so in this town, which is in the middle of an island very secluded from the real world, Barty is the golden boy. His professors love him, but not Evan, Evan actually thinks he's overestimated, so Barty gets really offended and decides he wants to know everything about his new professor.
He does that by stalking him, btw. And it's SO boring because Evan does the same thing every day, almost ritualistic. But after a few weeks, something changes and a girl enters the picture. It's safe to say Barty gets really surprised when he follows Evan to the middle of the woods and finds him hiding the girl's body.
So the thing about this fic is that the scenery is scary as it is, this small town is kind of haunted, has its own rules and the most despicable people you'll know. Barty himself has a tragic past and a horrible family, but it's Evan the most scary part of this story. He's just dark and mean, and Barty gets too obsessed with him to realize he's in danger, and when he realizes, it's already too late.
mourning the unwritten bakchai scene (replaced with them playing tennis) where barty and evan were supposed to be very drunk and tired and go play pool in the basement of the manor, and it was supposed to end with barty bent over the table
