mhmmmmm barty's obsession with voldemort is soooo consuming that it affects his physical appearance 🙂‍↕️ he's so busy worshipping that man that he forgets to take care of himself, and in a very concerning way. he looks like a stray cat, with his messy hair, his vertebrae showing because of how skinny he is, and his crazy eyes; but that's because he doesn't remember what it means to be human anymore. after months of killing and eating rats to follow voldemort, he has truly turned into a beast driven only by loyalty to his master. he's wild in a way that looks sexy on him: he can arch his back like a feline, he laughs like a hyena at the top of his lungs, he looks down on you with his ice-blue eyes. he's fascinating because he looks anything but human, but you can see his body literally decaying due to the lack of care he gives it. he just... doesn't care anymore. he's happy that way.
tall, thin, almost skeletal and sharp barty, with sleepy eyes and a smug smile, who walks in the corridors slightly hunched and, when he's sitting, he stretches his legs and his feet under the table collide with the shoes of the other death eaters. barty, who laughs at the most inappropriate moments, loud and maniacal, who licks his lips, runs a long, bony finger over the surface of a piece of furniture and collects the dust. his face is more hollow than usual and his hair is disheveled, but his gaze is lively and his movements are fluid, magnetic. barty, who speaks to evan with his chin on his shoulder, exhaling his warm breath, words, laughter, directly onto his neck. barty, curled up in an armchair, with his knees pulled up to his chest, while he scrapes his tongue on the serrated part of his upper teeth, one corner of his mouth slightly lifted up, who wonders how much of his body he can fit into evan's; if, by pressing himself a little, he could ever get under his skin, if there is room for him too, if evan would ever welcome barty inside him like a second soul...
i want to yap a little bit about barty's illness, cause i don't think i've ever done a proper post about it:
tw: mention of eating disorder
it was passed down to him from his mother. the first symptoms appeared when he was in his second year
no one knows exactly what it is, but it manifests itself with very high fevers and physical weakness. sometimes barty is forced to stay in bed for days. in his third year, he couldn't move for months, and almost had to retake all his classes
it makes him pale, constantly tired, cold and weak
someone (evan) spread the rumor that his illness is contagious, so barty was always bullied during his years at hogwarts
he's always in the hospital wing, so madame pomfrey is an important presence in his life. she's the comfort and support that his sick mother cannot give him, nor his distant father
it's the fear of losing both his wife and his son that has led barty crouch sr to coldly distance himself from barty. barty is aware of that, and that's why his relationship with his father is so complicated. he pities him, but at the same time, he despises him
the disease has physical symptoms, which is why doctors long believed barty and his mother's bodies were the cause of it. when they're sick, they can't even use magic. barty is smart and knows he could become a great wizard if only he weren't ill, which is why he hates his body. he hates undressing and suffers from bulimia, which leads him to gorge himself with the hope of "strengthening himself to be the best," and then throw it all up out of shame
it's not his body that's the problem, and it's evan who plants the seed of suspicion in barty. they experiment with polyjuice potion, and evan doesn't feel sick when he's in barty's body. the problem is actually his magic, which is too strong for barty's body to handle, and ends up consuming all his energy
the crouch family owns a holiday home on the beach where barty and his mother can spend the summer getting some fresh air. barty loves that place, but he doesn't like spending so much time with his mother: she's always miserable and tired. she feels guilty for forcing her child to the same fate as her, and barty can't stand that feeling
barty can see what the disease will do to him on his mother, but he refuses to believe that he will actually go through the same things she's experiencing
his parents force him to visit saint mungo's doctors whenever he can, but those healers don't really know what they're doing. instead of getting to the root of his illness, they pump barty full of painkillers to make him believe he's recovering. it's madame pomfrey who tells him the truth one day, and that's why barty trusts her much more than those seemingly highly trained doctors
the disease makes everyone underestimate barty, which is something he absolutely hates. however, it will ultimately come in handy when he gets close to the death eaters, and he will start playing the part of the poor, sick kid who couldn't hurt a fly
back to my unnaturally tall barty agenda. he had a growth spurt between the ages of 15 and 17, and now his legs and arms are way too long. he walks a bit hunched, because he always has to bend down to meet other people's eyes. his hands are as big as a man's face. he's skinny—bony, even—and doesn't take care of himself. he looks like a skeleton moving around. he barely fits into every shower. he doesn't know what to do with that tall, bulky, and uncoordinated body. he sleeps all curled up, normal beds are too short for him. he has to duck his head when passing under doors.
and somehow, he's looking the best he's ever looked.

and anyway his theme song is feeling good by michael bublé
omg having so many bcj thoughts... how he subtly tries to be like voldemort... how the way he got rid of his family mirrors the way voldemort got rid of his... how he sees the dark lord both as a father figure and a soulmate... how he left the comfort of his home to follow his master... how he slept on the floor with rats and dust just to be with that man... how for a while all his happiness was given by the task of nourishing the disembodied soul of what was once the man he admired... how he gave up his body AGAIN so voldemort could regain his...
