By the Warm Fire's Glow || Dani & Kat
Dani smiled back at Kat, a sympathetic gesture which spoke of the shared trials that came with looking after one’s younger sibling. “Well, if she ever gets too incorrigible, send her my way. I’m always headin’ out, and I’ll look after her.” Dani finished cleaning the machete and set it aside, moving to clean and sharpen her throwing knives. “Ryan was at the UC- er, University of Cincinatti - hospital before the turn. I don’t really know the steps or whatever for med school, I just know he was good and doin’ well. But then everything hit the fan, the world turned into a shit storm, and well…” She let the sentence trail off, as she was more interested in what Kat had said next. “You were military? What branch? I was Navy, stationed at King’s Bay until the Turn…”
It was nice she deciding, having someone that understood the troubles and hardships of being an older sibling in these times. While before the turn being an older sibling was a lot easier for most, for Kat it seemed she had gone from protecting her sister from one bad thing to another. She gave a small laugh but nodded her head slightly, "I'll keep it in mind, but honestly I'm worried about her being out there, I'm sure you can look after her but - I worry, you know?" she gave a small shrug before moving onto another arrow, inspecting the point carefully. It had to be sharp, walkers maybe slow but they still had fairly hard heads.
Kat hummed slightly but nodded again, "Its still impressive, at least I know someone around here as decent med training, so if I ever get in trouble I know who to call for yeah?" she paused debating her answer before biting her lip. Her whole Military back ground was a bit tricky to explain, she had never really been 'enrolled' into it, she more - fell into it.
"I was taken in actually, me and my sis. I was only just eighteen and suddenly I was taking care of my kid Sis on my own, we had no where to go and a base took me in and put me to work. Its funny cause I never thought I'd end up working on a military base before that, but they looked after us - I picked up on things so they tossed me in as one of their own, they looked after Sammie too which was good - they gave me skills to survive and taught us to fight, in return I more or less became the base nurse - but I could kick asses if those guys tried to argue with me - but.. they were family," she spoke quietly, her hands having stopped sharpening the arrow, her voice trailing off.
