Having followed this series for nearly 13 years, since the first volumes were coming out, I’ve been through many ups and downs with it. I absolutely loved it at the beginning, but then waiting a month for the resolution of a rage-baity cliffhanger became just tiring, and it started to feel like being scammed.
Then the final arc felt like a crazy chuunibyou fantasy, and the only thing missing after a literal god showed up was some alien parasites…
Like really, if I didn’t know this was from bsd I’d say it was Naruto....

Windbreaker is so funny because Sakura has Suo 'my hobby is understanding how people work (and using that however I please)' Hayato and Akihiko 'heart too big for my own body and need to rely on others because my heart took up all the muscle that was supposed to be in my biceps' Nirei and Hajime 'all I do is garden, kick ass and give life advice' Umemiya and Kotoha 'Resident expert in understanding the concept of it takes a village and how people need support to thrive' Tachibana.

Sakura suddenly feels the weight of those words, falling on him and carrying the fond softness of Togame's voice. the firework cracks above their heads, but the only sound he hears is the clank of the ball in ramune bottle he holds.
and memories. he hears memories, flooding him with questions, doubts, fears; tiny voice of confidence swiftly gets swallowed by the flood's greed.
he recalls Umemiya and Takiishi fighting. them, completely lost in the fight. he thinks of all people Umemiya carries in his heart, and his own twists in his ribcage and shallowly sink out of pure "no, I don't want to be the top anymore."
he likes having fun. he has people he cares dearly about. he thinks of Suo who is close but not yet; of Nirei who grows stronger day by day; of Sugishita who makes his steps towards the open world; of Kiryu who carries his family name with pride only because of his sister, showing him the other ways to fight; of Tsugeura who knows what he wants.
and he knows, now, that becoming the top means preserving their dreams and lives, ensuring their safety and wide range of opportunities. it's also means to step aside when the time comes and watch them making the best memories without him.
it's the responsibility and the price he has to pay to be the top. it means maintaining his own image and reputation, control his words and his thoughts. just to release that pressure in the fight, letting his wild beasts go off the leash.
to turn into the same mirrored image of Umemiya.
Sakura also knows that he wants to see the moments wheh Suo will have his first shared meal with them all; when Nirei will kick the butt of a thug two times bigger than him; when Kiryu finds his true style; when Sugishita will have a talk with a complete stranger on his own; when Tsugeura will show his vulnerability.
Sakura thinks that his dream shifted, changed its shape, contradicting itself: he wants them safe and he wants to be with them, too. the Kanji's talk about having both and that being a miracle surfaces back, and Sakura curves his lips.
he doesn't want to be the top anymore.
but can he derail the train he already claimed his own?

also the author did such a great job in pacing this chapter using the fireworks and the pauses between them to accentuate the emotional impact, if we ever see this scene animated it's gonna be so amazing
Sakura's reason for aiming for the top was so that he'd be accepted, acknowledged, and to have a place in this world, but he's already found it so the top is no longer necessary and it even started to weight on him

It's so wild to see some of you talk about people who reacted negatively to Tsubaki because I literally only interact with the wbk fandom here on Tumblr (who all absolutely love him), so even just the IDEA that someone doesn't like Tsubaki just doesn't mentally process for me
I've experienced the same thing - I was enjoying my wholesome little tumblr bubble, and then I made the mistake of checking the comments under the episode on some random anime site. Honestly, I was shocked.
Like, it's kind of ironic that this episode got so much hate, considering the main theme of the series is about accepting others for who they are. I guess the dudebros completely missed the point the author was trying to make.
On a more positive note, I think the anime did a great job wrapping up Tsubaki and grandpa's stories in a single episode. Together with the previous episode it makes for a great breather between the more action-packed arcs - and also before the heavier themes in the Roppo Ichiza/Gravel arc, which touches upon the connection between crime and poverty.
Sometimes Dokja is not the sharpest tool in the shed.
Also, I was missing the constellation messages when Dokja was out of scenario, they're just so relatable (aren't we all just like Uriel with her fangirling)
