#persona 5 #persona 5 royal #joker persona 5 #I think there's an argument to be made that Maruki for as much as he thinks and believes he wants a perfect world for everyone #actually doesn't want that? He wants a perfect world as far as he can see it and quite frankly he doesn't see most people as anything more #than husks with potential. He sees them as being either positive or negative and doesn't actually care about majority of people #It's why Joker gets preferential treatment because Joker (this reflects far more on Maruki than anything else) is one of the few people #that he seemingly opens up to. He has his work friend (who I forget the name of) that he talks to but it's clear that Maruki is either #hiding things from him or in general isn't close or doesn't feel as if that friend is reliable. Unlike Joker who is required to go to Maruk #at least a few times for counselling. But that counselling ends up being far more about Maruki's comfort. Satiating his curiousity and #feeding his own theories. While he puts on the act of caring for others (and he does care for the hypothetical others) it's very flat #How do I word this. He cares for others not because of who they are but because he likes to be the one to “fix” or remove negativity #in other people's lives. His bond with Joker is different than the rest of the thieves because (presumably) only Joker is the one connectin #to Maruki as a fellow person and not a patient (though you could argue Joker is very bad at focusing on himself and Maruki doesn't care).#He does however heal Ryuji's leg in the false reality. You could argue it's because that's an obvious “flaw” and doesn't require him to #know Ryuji deep down. Unlike “fixing” any insecurity Ann has around her body as he'd need to know her deeply. Also there's the fact that #Maruki has favourites and unfortunately for those favourites he doesn't know how to treat them fairly. Sumi is a favourite of his and #that certainly goes well for her. Joker is a favourite of his and that certainly goes well for him. Do you see what I mean? Joker's hair #would be a rather smaller change compared to shifting people's bodies fully (but considering he “brings people back from the dead”#I don't think that matters as much.) but this uncaring benevolence Maruki holds is the same reason he can bring back Akechi without #actually caring about Akechi. He knows Akechi is important to Joker and that's what is important. The idea of Akechi triumphs over who #Akechi is. Otherwise why not do more to make Akechi less likely to shake Joker out of the false reality?#<- Though there's much to be said about how the reality would be successful if only Joker and Akechi weren't a part of it.#Prev note:#the erasure of free will really does erase everything else. without our will and choices what are we?#<- Yes yes exactly. Fascinating. Ultimately Maruki's downfall is wanting Joker to have free will in a reality that denies such #I'd imagine Maruki would also give Joker perfect vision so he wouldn't need his glasses but the effect doesn't take hold because Joker #never actually needed them in the first place. Though it's likely he knows they're fake but would he know the reason why?

When playing video games (specifically RPGs), do you prefer self-inserts or playing as established characters?

I like when the character is fully a self-insert

Nuanced take?

For context, animal crossing (though not an rpg) is fully self-insert while sonic the hedgehog (also not an rpg) is an established character you play as. That's your scale of the two extremes. Think "fully self-insert" has a whole host of character customization because they're meant to be you, while the "their own person" option is sonic. Or the equivalent. A character you play through.

I've seen both many people really interested in having customizable characters and #greater player freedom in ways that inspire more self-insertion rather than conceptualizing the playable character as their own person?#That being said there's equal desire for style and character and personality. A very interesting conversation with good points.#I fully agree. There is no true way to make a fully self-insert character due to the inherent fact that even the choices presented encourag #them to be characterized in some way. Even if only for the sake of plot points that still becomes some form of characterization #<- To derail with Persona 5. Very fascinated by how they try having Joker both be a silent protagonist and have motivations directly #tied to his own experiences that make sense for him (as his own character). While unrealistic (timeline wise) it would be interesting if after his initial run in with the police he'd gotten white hairs #Then in Maruki's reality he suddenly loses them. A subtle show of how Maruki denies people's lived experiences to have a “perfected”#and “idealized” of them exist. Inherently ignoring that experiences build them into who they are. Something to do about how Joker's #passion towards injustice is highly motivated by that which he faced and to strip him from that is denying who Joker really is.#And if he had white hairs from that then that would be another way of showing how it impacted him despite how well he masks it #Consider the following: Maruki asks Joker early in the game about his white hairs (because Maruki would be that sort of person) and #then has a moment about how unfair it is. This then leads into Semester 3 Joker losing his white hairs.#<- He wouldn't keep them because as much as he wants to break free from the false reality Akechi's existence is a byproduct of his own wish #/still tying Joker into the false reality. Therefore Joker doesn't gain them back until Akechi's gone. Does that make sense?#Prev tags:#also i do agree that akechi would have silver hairs however he would dye them to keep up the youthful detective prince image imo #<- Akechi would be forced to dye them as the Detective Prince. A sign of him embracing himself fully and a sign of rebellion from all #the masking he's been forced to do is that he no longer dyes them.

#🧸 anon #an ask!!!!!#The current games we've liked are Silksong and Binding of Isaac (we like Cult of the Lamb conceptually too but it's not as big a favourite)#If you notice a theme of red being an “”important“” colour between these games and Persona 5 blame CROW. He likes other games though #Well.. We both really like persona 5! He likes more action in his games though and I like more puzzle solving.#Partly why we like Cult of the Lamb really is the card game. We like the card game in Persona 5 too. All games should have a mode like that #Anyways we didn't play many games growing up so Persona 5 was special to us when we played it last year-ish. The first game we ever #played that really spoke to us (I've long since thought games had the potential to be the ultimate storytelling medium but until that I'd #yet to really come across something that made me actually think that could be realistically done) and has Akechi. Rewired our brain #<- CROW says “rewired as in really fucking loved it. Plus normalization of our existence”. An insightful CROW message #Anyways we haven't actually played that many games before..? We watched playthroughs of people playing games growing up since we #didn't have access to them. We do like the concept of a lot of games but often don't get “hooked” on them enough to complete them #We really want to try RAIDOU remastered (part of the Shin Megami Tensei umbrella) but need to save up for it #Unsurprisingly I'm interested in the “detective” premise of it. Plus mixing persona 5 elements? Sounds intriguing!#Anyways. Reversing the question! What's your favourite video game (that isn't Persona 5)?

Or consider who cares about such bland normalcy?#The rest isn't for that target: I like tracking footprints sounds and such when in the woods (especially in winter at night. Because that's #a very normal habitat I promise you) and it certainly hasn't not crossed my mind the ways that could be used to hunt or be hunted.#Forests are inherently superior to cities firstly. Secondly that forest would have been great for there were few people. Thirdly there #was much diversity of options to go (river versus streams versus open land within the forest versus etc etc)#therefore leading to more hiding options more options for stealth and more options for navigation (following deer tracks was fun).#Fourth reason is that it is simultaneously a social and independent activity where you are participating in something socially while #fully a free and independent agent of your fate and it can be a battle of mind. Thereby fulfilling many forms of enrichment #Plus what is hide and seek if not a form of hunting? What is tag if not a form of hunting? I think it more strange to deny the fact that al #(or many) animals could have the instincts to hunt and/or be hunted and humans still are in some way animals. therefore can benefit from #such behaviour (or more aptly the mimicry of such). Turns out that there's some level of research being done on how brain freezes interact with blood flow in the brain and the impact of such on migraines. Curious indeed.
