Just because people are getting better at spotting false information, getting better at finding true information, and have the ability to do all this quickly and are smart enough to dismiss bullshit without bothering to read through it doesn’t mean we’re paying less attention.

You know what REALLY inhibits the attention span of someone? Stress. Trying to care and act about too many stressful and horrific things at once. You know what gives panic attacks when you start a new show? Triggers that didn’t come with any warning. Finding out the reason you started the show in the first place was a lie.

I dont think that stating “Humanity having basically unlimited access to the whole of The Human Condition isnt necessarily a good thing” is particularly wrong, especially considering how technology has evolved from even a decade ago.

When compared to when humanity first came into existence up to now, modern technology isnt even a blip on the map. We really Dont Know how and in what ways the way we use technology negatively affects our overall wellbeing because there isnt really isnt a precident for any of this, as much of a Boomer-esque thing that is to say.

I dont think that its too much of a stretch to say that having unlimited and immediate access to whatever you want would take a toll on your overall attention span, nor do I think that @therealklt was trying to say that Fanfiction Isnt Real Literature, or that using fanfiction as a form of escapism from 2020 is necessarily a bad thing.

i’m working but it’s basically only paying enough to keep us all fed and put gas in the tank. i have no idea how to crawl out of debt while also being put through the ringer to find out if i’ll need a major surgery that’ll just sink us further into debt.
