If any of you are curious on how I plan out Kandria’s chapters, here’s what my planning looks like. I scribble out a quick map with labels and that’s it. And then I make the assets and add them into the game.

Here are some screenshots of the game! I was originally making all of the rooms and assets outside of the Unity engine, and then importing them in. I found this approach time consuming and flawed, and it wasn’t flexible. I then tried using Unity’s tilemap system, and it is SO much better. Making the rooms is a breeze compared to what I was doing before, and it saves me time.
Progress is good!
Work in progress assets for the interior of a space ship. Kandria will cold open in a space ship, and this is where the beginning of the game takes place.
I thought it would be interesting to show how Kandria’s battle GUI has evolved. The above screenshot is from about halfway into total development time I’ve spent, and the bottom is how the GUI looks currently. I’m kind of nostalgic for my original design however, it looks more like a homage to classic RPG games. I might combine the two later down the line.

Sorry for lack of updates, new features are not fully implemented yet, so at the moment I don’t see a point in showcasing them.
I’ve been experimenting with so many different GUI designs over the year(s) I’ve been developing, and I don’t think I’m ever going to stop. The last design you see is probably going to be a long term one.
I’m aware that I’ve shown a lot of the battle but very little of the ‘normal’ gameplay. I haven’t gotten to those bits in great detail yet. Soon hopefully.
I’m happy to archive this early concept art for some of the scenery/characters/moments! This Jrpg is positively coming along.

Do you plan on releasing a beta of the game this year?
I have no idea. I plan on releasing a beta eventually, but I’m not completely sure if I’ll be ready in a year. Hopefully, though!
Minor announcement

First look at the official game’s setting. In this screenshot, we have our trio of villains - TR-53(left), CA-L3(middle), and B0-55(right), observing Bim in a prison cell. They are non-organic aliens from another dimension, and play a major role in Kandria’s story.
Here’s where Kandria currently is in it’s battle system’s aesthetics. The battle of Kandria is turn based, and each enemy’s battle stage is unique and suited to them. More information on mechanics and story will come. Stay tuned!
