rb-ing with @cringefailvox's tags because you're so right + this is EXACTLY one of the things I wanted to say but couldn't quite find the words to accurately express. Unlike Vox and Velvette, Val views power and wealth and influence as a means to an end and not an end in and of itself. All Val really wants is his own little hedonistic pleasure empire over which he has complete control, which hey! He already has! So anything they build past that point is just a fun a little bonus for him, and absolutely not worth risking everything over.

and like, even aside from the critical importance of having someone around willing to say 'hey guys what if we DIDN'T fly into the sun,' I think this is also really valuable on a personal level because it means Val cares more about his, Vox, and Velvette's immediate fulfillment and happiness than he does the company or their image or any grand scheme. That is his ultimate priority. And like, not for nothing, but SOMEONE has got to be taking these guys out to the club sometimes, both literally and metaphorically. Yes, I am arguing that--among other things--Val routinely ripping Vox away from work to have kinky sex is critical to the Vees' collective functioning. I mean, what, do we think that not getting laid regularly would somehow make Vox more stable? be so fr right now

I also think the personality contrast is just helpful to have around in general, because while Vox and Velvette obviously get along fantastically and are wickedly effective as a team, I think that if you locked them alone in a room together for long enough they WOULD inevitably kill each other. Something about them both being posturing, spotlight-hungry assholes with no ability to communicate their emotions or give up ground. Just by being himself, Val can drag Vox down from his pedestal without making Vox feel as if his control is being challenged (it's not a dominance battle if it's just Val being an irresponsible ditz) and makes Velvette feel as if she has an ally she's on truly equal ground with. Also, When I Think About The Future demonstrated that he's not terminally allergic to the mere suggestion of expressing vulnerable emotions, and I feel like that can only be a positive addition to the overall interpersonal ecosystem here. Call it a hunch.

Does it take a few shots for Alastor to think Vox looks tasty or is Alastor very drunk and likes looking at his own reflection in Vox’s screen here? Who knows. Who cares.
