Sherlock has always placed his cases in a higher priority to everything else. But this time, this time his sister is arrested, bound for the noose so he squares up and asks the only person he believes can help - Edith. Sherlock hasn't met John yet. He's not a team player. But he reaches out for assistance because he has tried and he has failed and now his sister's life hangs in the balance.

And now for the real tearjerker: Sherlock figured out that Mira Troy/Moriaty's message leads to the match factoy, yet he doesn't arrive until Enola is out for prison and goes to investigate himself. Why? Why would he do that? He would've still had time after he went to Edith's for help yet he decided to go only after Enola escaped. The man finally realised that Human Lives are more important than Cases and then Enola sets up that appointment with Sherlock and John Watson

In the first movie where Sherlock comes to visit Enola at the finishing school she says "I'm just a case to you, aren't I? A curiosity" and this second movie proves that to be inherently false.

Enola is more than just a case to him, she's family. When he deducts that she's working at a matchstick factory and realised that someone held a knife at Enola's neck you can see him visibly pause from deducing and blink.

In the first movie, King T’Chaka says “a man who has not prepared his children for his own death has failed as a father.”

Nakia saying “Your Baba prepared us for his death, didn’t he?” and Toussaint nodding with a smile absolutely broke me.

T’Challa might not have had a lot of time with his son, but both him and Nakia agree that he succeeded in being a father, even between being snapped by Thanos and serving as king of a country.

It’s also a great contrast to Killmonger, who was also left behind from the throne and left unprepared for his father‘s death and not accepted by Wakanda. 

Little Toussaint grows up in a country other than Wakanda yes, but he still has love and preparation and acceptance and the nobility to carry on his father’s name both literally and figuratively. Just like a new generation of black children were equally inspired by T’Challa in real life.
