Bigger Than My Body - John Mayer
Paperweight ft. Schuyler Fisk - Joshua Radin

Island in the Sun - Weezer
March 4, 2008, this playlist was started the day after my 20th birthday. My birthday falls in March, which I always want to be Spring, but is always the last, coldest dregs of winter. I’m always a little cold and a little blue.
I Miss You - Blink 182
This really exemplifies my moodiness. Senior year of high school my friend, Steff, called herself Jack and me Sally, because of this song, whenever we weren’t listening to Panic! At the Disco. It was a time. But still, I do enjoy this song, even Tom DeLonge’s nasal questioning of “where are you!?” I think at this point, Steff and I had kind of moved on as many friendships do.
Sea of Love - Cat Power
I know I originally heard this song from the Juno soundtrack, because that was just how I was finding a lot of my music back then. But then again, this soft strummy song is a gorgeous cover.
She Says - Howie Day
Howie Day really hit his stride in the early aughts with this song and Collide. I know I wistfully listened to Collide at senior prom while my gay prom date declined to dance with me. (it’s cool, we’re still friends.) This song is so effortlessly singable and melodic.
Rise Up With Fists!! - Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins
Jenny Lewis is one of my all time favorite artists. I love her voice, I love her musical chops, and I love her lyrics. When Rilo Kiley stopped making music, I was disappointed, but when she put out this record with the Watson Twins, it was all over. She really brought me into my own in terms of appreciating Americana music. And truly, some of the wordplay in this song is so smart. “Thought I saw you in Vegas/It was not pretty, but she was (not your wife)” 10 years later, is this my favorite of her tracks? Nah, but I do dig it.
Bigger Than My Body - John Mayer
In 2008, this song was already 5 years old, but I didn’t feel like it got the appropriate amount of respect. It’s got great orchestration, great lyrics, and the chorus is immensely fun to sing a long to. Also one of my friends at the time was fond of proclaiming how gay John Mayer is (was?) Either way, we’re not friends anymore and yes, John Mayer may be fairly insufferable, but this song is good. As is Vultures, but that’s not on this playlist!
Paperweight ft. Schuyler Fisk - Joshua Radin
I was such a moody kid, but this really fell into my wheelhouse, moody, strummy, pretty vocals. I think it kind of vocalized some of my wistful yearnings, wishing for a boyfriend, but totally not having the skills to make it happen. Nowadays, this is a little too treacly, but still a beautiful song. Also apparently the female vocalist, Schuyler Fisk, beyond being Sissy Spacek’s daughter, also played Kristy in the Baby-Sitters Club!
Butterflies - Sia
Another beautiful Barnes & Noble instore play selection. This was Sia before she was wearing the big wig and hiding her face. This is from the same album as “Breathe Me” which so poignantly served as the soundtrack for the final moments of Six Feet Under. Can you believe the great pop music she’s making now? Incredible change, but I love the evolution.
Island in the Sun - Weezer
There was a time when I thought I was over Weezer. I thought I was the coolest for loving the Blue album in high school, almost a full ten years after it came out. But then there were some new releases that just didn’t speak to me. This track is off the green album and is just a classic at this point.
