Chiaki Nanami, back in her own world with people who had known her for a while, was always known to have high concentration on a one-track mind. When she was busy with something, everything inside of her was dedicated to that, especially when it came to a video game. Inside her element, everything melted away and she was one with the software and herself. She would stare so hard at her screen, fingers spreading wings and taking off, as if she could see the data processing within. Once she was familiar with a game, it was like she was one step ahead of the programming.
Now, when it was multiplayer on the other hand…well, Chiaki was still focused but she could pull herself out enough to become interactive. That was, of course, the best part of multiplayer, at least to her; the cooperation, working together, being able to talk strategy or just even have a laugh.
She began to feel this pull when Makoto joined…though it was more of a jerk. She jolted a bit where she stood after seeing a blue cross-hare symbol appear alongside her red one, throwing her only slightly off her vibe. She lost one HP, but she quickly recovered, focusing on the screen again, to the point where she…had no idea who was next to her.
But hey, they were really good…! Except for…
“Hey hey…make sure you take your finger off the trigger if you’re surrounded,” she guided in a gentle voice. Nothing condescending or irritated like some elite gamers would be in this situation. She still couldn’t take her eyes off her actions but there was a sudden warmth to her. “It allows you to do a melee counter that sweeps your enemies back a bit. Like this!”
The game was in first person, but as Chiaki demonstrated, it was still easy and impressive to see her character stop shooting and sweep the gun in a wild arc, pushing back the monsters they were combating. “You got this…!”
♔ Already immersed, the sudden external stimulus startled her a bit. Just enough for her to let out a soft shriek. Makoto had already assumed that almost no word would be exchanged between them in the middle of the game. Luckily, her aim didn’t seem to suffer because of it but her expression definitely changed as she took up that piece of advice.
Her character found itself in that same situation just moments later and, accordingly, the priestess got her index finger out of the trigger and followed the melee movement in screen in the real world too. Completely unnecesary but part of the whole experience for her.
❝ Thank you. ❞ She whispered, appreciating the gesture and remembering those times in Shibuya when Akira used to explain her how to properly play. Better times one could say, just different times for her.
The score screen appeared in front of them after they managed to easily dispatch the area boss, leaving them some time to catch their breath. The phantom thief lowered her controller and loosened up her shoulders as she stared at her left, just to catch a glimpse of her partner.
Such a cute girl, she kinda gave her some mild Futaba vibes yet just her expression sold her as a way calmer spirit. ❝ You’re incredible at this. ❞
