003: Landing Page (Above the Fold)
What's the main focus? Is it for a book, an album, a mobile app, a product? Consider important landing page elements (call-to-actions, clarity, etc.)
For this exercise I chose to use a packaging project from my time as an undergraduate because I hadn't created web elements for it before. The use of large text, bright colors, and the decision to cut off the product image makes people curious enough to continue scrolling. As the user scrolls down the page they will uncover the full product.
002: Credit Card Checkout
Hint: Design a credit card checkout form or page. Don't forget the important elements such as the numbers, dates, security numbers, etc.
Here is my submission for day 2 of the Daily UI Challenge. I chose a simply pop-up sheet because it makes checking out feel quick and easy. The design incorporates a simple 2-color palette along with bold text, full product images, and large buttons that facilitate the checkout process on a mobile device.
Hi there!
It has been a while since I posted to this blog, but I am back with something a little different. I came across a 100 UI Design Challenge on twitter and I thought it would be interesting to give it a try. I used my Etsy shop logo and colors for this experiment.

Tasked with the creation of promotional materials for performances by SDSU’s School of Music and Dance symphony orchestra, I designed a series of posters that capture the essence of each event. The series approach for these posters was achieved through the use of similar styles, which include: line, color, composition, and typeface. By simply utilizing lines and color I was able to achieve a sense of depth, vitality, and emotion. As with any promotional poster, it was important to display event information in an easy-to-read layout. Instead of opting to use a ready-made template provided by the school I challenged myself to develop the content hierarchy. All three posters utilize colored type and dividers in order to bring focus to the most important and relevant information. Ultimately, my goal was to create a collection of simple yet bold visuals that capture the essence of the performance and event, and to make a viewer curious enough to want to spend time in front of the poster.

Browse unique items from misprintdesign on Etsy, a global marketplace of handmade, vintage and creative goods.
This past weekend I spent a few hours renaming and branding my small Etsy shop. It seemed kinda funny to me that I hadn’t branded my shop given the fact that I am a Graphic Designer.
Anyways, in the end I decided to go with “misprint” because my shop is focused on screen printed posters. The beauty of screen printing is that even after being super careful, not every print is perfect. (Don’t worry, I would never sell a throwaway print).
It would mean a lot to me if you could visit my shop and browse my small collection of posters. I plan on growing the selection in the future. Below is one of my most recent designs inspired by Captain America: Civil War.
I spent the majority of the day screen printing these at SDSU. The first black and white image contains two different film separations. The one on the left is meant to be printed with blue and red ink on white paper, while the one on the right is meant to be printed with white and red ink on blue paper. I opted for the one on the left because I wanted to control the blue background color instead of relying on a colored sheet of paper. One of the issues I encountered came towards the final stages of printing the second color. As I was pulling the squeegee the ink got trapped under the screen and it smeared the text box on the bottom left rendering a few posters illegible. It was frustrating, but I'm glad the rest of the poster retained the intended look. I brought home some of the misprints. As James Victore would say "Feck Perfuction". The final poster size is 16" x 22".
Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I posted to this blog. I have some exciting news! James Victore is giving a lecture at SDSU and on one of my professors asked me if I wanted to design the promotional poster. Being a huge James Victore fan I couldn’t let this opportunity slip. I gladly took on the responsibility and spent the last couple of weeks working on a design. In order to resemble the style of his work I immediately started working with brushes, inks, and markers. You can see that I experimented a lot and came up with a lot of sketches until I found the right look and feel. Another important note is that this design is meant to be screen printed, which is why I mostly stuck with 1-3 colors. Overall, I am very excited for this event and I’m extremely happy to have been invited to be a part of this occasion.

Experiments with 2-D and 3-D type.
The semester is drawing to a close, and it is time for show and tell! Several of the projects that I worked on this semester have made it into the SDSU Flor y Canto gallery for the annual Open Studios. The projects on display are: Coffee Culture (Info graphics), The Outsiders (Type 3), Super Cocina (Branding), Angle (Type 3), and Curio (Packaging). **Not all of my projects are pictured above** I'm extremely happy and honored to even be considered to be a part of this event, especially because I only have 1 more semester left at SDSU.
Scott demonstrates what our idea is and how it works.
EMERGING DESIGN We had artist (Orkan Telhan) visit our class yesterday and he had us play with "printed" light panels. As a group of 6 we had 1 hour to map out, die cut, mount, and "activate" our idea. We wanted to create 2 sentences using only 1 sentence, and depending on which words were lit up the message would read differently. Using some software, we lit up each panel manually in sync with the lyrics "Insane in the membrane. Insane in the brain!" We spelled membrane as "membrain" on purpose to make it work. Group members: Margarita, Anna, Amy, Vince, Scott, and Johnny.
Black and white.
