Jumin, really, only initially relented and tried to be nice towards the MC because he trusts V. His affection and trust are earned, and I like that. It feels much more worth it to me when he does come around and treasure the MC; it’s also not like he’s ever intentionally rude/mean to MC, which is a problem I have with some characters. 💜

Same with Jaehee. She is even blatantly distrustful for longer than Jumin since she doesn’t have that same personal trust in V, but she eventually comes around and her adorable fangirl baker interior starts to shine through. I really love her for it. 💛

When he was a young boy, he once had a mark of a soulmate, and he can remember the pattern that was once on his ankle. It was a wisteria, a vibrantly purple flower that shown at him with such wonder. It was said that everyone had a mark on their body that had something to do with their soulmate in some way, shape, or form, and you would feel it in the mark when you met them. However, if the mark was harmed or injured, it would never be the same. 

Saeran’s mark was burned and cut beyond recognition thanks to the abuse he experienced and what was once a beautiful flower was now nothing but a blur and a scar on his body. It was the universe telling him that he wasn’t worth anything, not even a soulmate. 

He continued to feel this way for a long time. Even after he and Saeyoung escaped from that place and found a family that actually cared for them in the right way. The feeling that he was no good, that the universe didn’t want him to be happy, the notion that his soulmate probably wouldn’t have wanted trash like him anyway. 

Saeran keeps people away from him. 

But, Ray still has that stupid hope and it makes him sick when their shared thoughts bounce together every now and again. Ray dreams that maybe their soulmate will pity them, and be kind to them even if their mark was ruined beyond repair. There’s fleeting hope but it is for naught, that won’t be the case and Saeran knows it. 

Saeran can’t feel that way. 

He refuses to. 

However, one day, he sees a girl with a lily on her ankle in the same place that his mark was. He felt the hum and the static of something unnatural, something to be frightened of or to be angry about. Her mark was intact, it was on display, and she seemed to know nothing of pain. Saeran knows that she can feel it too, but he looks away before she catches him staring. 

He can’t.
