CAMPFIRE NIGHT!!

So Erids atmosphere is mostly ammonia (they built an elevator into space to launch Blip-A, go read the book people- please it’s so cool. ITS HAS ACCURATE MATH OMFG.) and a key component of fire and combustion in general is oxygen. So Rocky has no experience with the stuff, it’s a scientific phenomenon on his planet.

Simon on the other hand grew up in a space cult! Wasting oxygen on recreational fire observation is something I doubt would be appreciated by the greater group. Especially since there whole thing is trees, and fire is pretty much one of the only things that will kill a tree outside of a pest or disease. I kinda head canon fire in general would be faxpau.

So everyone is happy on Erid, and Grace is like “hey can I have a fire pit?” because nothing beats a beach fire and good company. Queue a great deal of questions and concerns, both Rocky and Simon are horrified. Grace is determined to share one of his favorite pastimes with his favorite people. Simon in particular because Grace’s horrified he’s never had a campfire.

So they build a fire pit.

And then they have a fire, and Grace is pulling o it all the nine yards, s’mores for him and Simon, and coals for Rocky and Adrian, blankets and music and an umbrella that was made just for this. Simon is hesitant, but after like the 8th time Rocky try’s to climb into the fire he relaxes. But then Simon is watching Grace talk animatedly with Adrian, the fire highlighting him in warm colors and making his hair look like spun gold. He’s beautiful and Simon doesn’t know what to do about it. ethereal in a way that reminds the man of the first time he had met Grace and thought he was an angel who had come to take him to heaven.

But then a song pops up, and Grace scrabbles to turn it up, singing along with Rocky as Adrian is giggling quietly. But then Grace turns to Simon and tugs him up off the towel he was watching from, and he’s pulling the man into a dance. Uncoordinated, feet slipping in the sand, but a smile so bright Simon thinks it would rival the sun.

COI scientist Grace: (adjusts glasses) Suggest that again. See what happens.

COI member: ...

COI scientist Grace: That's what I thought. Now get out of my lab.

Imagine for a second you are Adrian surname The Eridian. Your spouse has been missing and presumed dead for around a decade, and suddenly one day an alien spaceship comes into orbit. And you cheer "Yay alien species have realized we have the same problem and have come to either give us a solution or join or efforts, too bad my mate is still gone."

Except he is not actually gone, because the eridian equivalent of a carebear decided to save them. And he doesn't want anything in return, in fact he is well aware that he might die A PAINFUL SLOW DEATH, shortly after fighting just to get the love of your life back to you. But it's ok :) because Rocky (yes he gave them a silly name) is my best friend! Oh- Are you ok-
