Smash Potato Quiche —

I actually went and found the video and this guy listed the full recipe

Recipe:

Ingredients:

2 lbs boiled yellow potatoes

1 cup local milk

1/2 cup local 35% Cream

6 whole eggs

1 cup diced ham

1 cup sliced cherry tomatoes

2 cups cleaned spinach

1 scotch bonnet pepper or jalapeno sliced thinly (optional)

1 cup grated local mozzarella

3 tablespoons salt - 2 for the water to cook the potatoes and 1 for the egg and milk mixture

1 tablespoon black pepper

2 tablespoons chopped chives

2 tablespoons local salted butter

Method

Add your potatoes to a large stock pot and fill with cold water. Add salt and allow to boil until fork tender. Once ready strain water and allow to cool for a few minutes

Preheat oven to 350°F

Grease a large cake tin thoroughly with butter and add your now cooled boiled potatoes.

Using the back of a cup gently press down on the potatoes to form your crust.

Add spinach, diced ham, and tomatoes

In a large bowl whisk together milk, cream and eggs. Then carefully pour this into your shell.

Top this with a sprinkle of salt and pepper, hot pepper slices, and mozzarella.

Place this on top of a baking sheet and bake on the middle rack for 45-50 minutes.

Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

Finish with chopped chives and enjoy.

This sounds fantastic! And a much easier gluten-free crust than my proprietary mix of teff, oat, and rice flours, etc.

Have made this, it is my new favorite way of making a quiche. If yours has trouble setting (like mine) just reduce the milk. As with all fancy-ingredient recipes, feel free to sub canned diced tomatoes (squeeze them to get most of the juice out first), non-local stuff, etc. I have also found that chopped up honey ham (the kind for sandwiches) is delicious and simple in any recipe that wants a cut of pig I don't have on hand. And red potatoes have worked in every recipe I've ever tried, so I just use those for everything.

this is a vegetarian potato curry recipe that's about 75% spices; once you get the potatoes in there you can really do whatever you want with it

this is literally just pasta, broccoli, and cheese babey and you can live off that shit for DAYS it makes such a big portion

bro this spinach/pesto/3 cheese flatbread is so fucking tasty bro

also you can make the flatbread yourself it's super quick!!

oh hey I'm eating this white chickpea chili right now, much like the curry it's mostly spices and you can do p much do whatever you want with it

don't let the name fool you these potatoes are delicious any time. not just breakfast.

this is slightly more than five ingredient when you add them together but if you have time and really wanna fuckin treat yourself I recommend these chicken strips + this cornbread + either these potatoes or these buttered veggies on the side.

this recipe for gogumabap (sweet potato and rice) saved my life when i couldn't eat hardly anything for a long time. the recipe itself calls for a heavy bottomed pot but you can absolutely use a rice cooker and put the rice and diced sweet potato in together and just let the machine do its thing

Strong words to use on a Resume

If you have ever had to write a resume for work or for an application, then you know the hardest part is figuring out what type of words to use that sound professional and and intelligent.

Example: If an application asks you if you have any relevant experience for a job at a day care center and you have experience, like you have babysat children. You would look at the words in the columns to see what words you should use that will help your resume stand out. You might put down “Have supervised and attended to children on a regular basis.”

This started out as a post for the IB, but I realised it can be applied generally as well.

General Tips:

If you get to choose your topic, choose one that you find genuinely interesting, as you will be much more motivated. It should also be a topic that you’re fairly familiar with. If you’re really stuck for ideas, look at example essays online (but don’t steal!).

Have a specific focus.

Keep a log of all of your references. Make sure that you’re referencing in the correct format.

Find out if there are any competitions or scholarship contests that you could submit your essay to.

Introduction:

Try starting your essay with a claim related to the title/question.

Have a sentence which defines your whole essay; give the reader and idea of what you’re going to be arguing. Try to get the reader interested in your essay so that they’re motivated to read.

Don’t use “I” or “My” (we were always warned against this).

Know what conclusion you’re coming to at the end.

Think of essay introductions as covering what/why/how:

What the question is about – explain your interpretation of the question and what it is asking you to do.

Why the question is important – put the question into context and identify the main issues that are raised by the question.

How you are going to answer it – let the reader know what you are going to cover in your essay in order to answer the question.

Body:

Provide example to prove your thesis write or wrong.

Develop the idas and arguments outlined in your introduction.

Each paragraph should have a topic sentence, which acts like a mini introduction. This should clarify what you’re going to discuss in that paragraph. If your topic sentence doesn’t match what you discuss in the paragraph then it will read confused.

Think of each paragraph like a small essay.

Keep your essay question/title in front of you while you’re writing; it will help you stay focused.

Don’t be too general.

Keep your paragraphs well structured. Don’t jump from one idea to the next; there should be a link between the paragraphs, they should be consecutive. Try to show the flow of your though. Again, if this goes wrong, your essay will appear confused. This is something that I found online about how to structure a paragraph (included as a photo for the colour coding):

Don’t just state your ideas; have evidence, analysis, and comments. Remember, you’re trying to convince the reader that you’re right!

Conclusion:

Reread your essay, and conclude your ideas; all of your points should lead logically to this conclusion.

Your conclusion should capture the essence of your essay. Summarise your main points, and relate them back to the question. Think about what the reader knows now that they didn’t know when they began reading.

Don’t introduce any new information.

Don’t include apologies about the incompleteness of your argument (e.g. If I had more time….) although you can include some limitations.

Don’t end your conclusion with a rhetorical question; it leaves the reader unsatisfied.

4 Legal Ways To Get Free Textbooks.

1. Open Culture: Not a large a selection, but high quality texts. If you just want to skim a book to brush up on a course you took in ninth grade, download one of these. I have yet to be disappointed.

2. Book Boon: Provides free college-level textbooks in a PDF format. Probably the widest range of subjects on the web. The site is also pretty.

3. Flat World Knowledge: The worlds largest publisher of free and open college textbooks. Humanitie texts are particularly difficult to come by, this site has a great selection in all disciplines.

4. Textbook Revolution: Some of the books are PDF files, others are viewable online as e-books, or some are simply web sites containing course or multimedia content.

5. Library Pirate: I’ve always had an addiction to torrent based pirating. When this site opened a few months ago, I went a little overboard. After dropping two hundred on a paperback spanish textbook, I downloaded the ebook version illegally. I also got a great Psyc text i'm obsessed with. It will be interesting to see how this site grows- they already have a great selection.

So, pretty frequently writers screw up when they write about injuries. People are clonked over the head, pass out for hours, and wake up with just a headache… Eragon breaks his wrist and it’s just fine within days… Wounds heal with nary a scar, ever…

I’m aiming to fix that.

General note: Deeper=more serious. Elevate wounded limb so that gravity draws blood towards heart. Scalp wounds also bleed a lot but tend to be superficial. If it’s dirty, risk infection. If it hits the digestive system and you don’t die immediately, infection’ll probably kill you. Don’t forget the possibility of tetanus! If a wound is positioned such that movement would cause the wound to gape open (i.e. horizontally across the knee) it’s harder to keep it closed and may take longer for it to heal.

General notes: If it’s a compound fracture (bone poking through) good luck fixing it on your own. If the bone is in multiple pieces, surgery is necessary to fix it–probably can’t reduce (“set”) it from the outside. Older people heal more slowly. It’s possible for bones to “heal” crooked and cause long-term problems and joint pain. Consider damage to nearby nerves, muscle, and blood vessels.
