hooligan: big corporations only care about money! donât fall victim to their false charity
honey industry: remember! buying our things is the only possible way to save bees! pay us
hooligan: wow ive never met a more trustworthy corporation in my life
One of the most jarring things I see on discourse surrounding animal rights is how quickly leftist meat eaters descend into using conservative, traditionally right-wing rhetoric. We want stand up against those who are being oppressed, but when weâre talking about animal products suddenly we are happy to agree that yes, some lives are worth more than others, and it is actually totally fine that a powerful group exploits a powerless one because itâs ânaturalâ and we are âsuperior.â
We oppose big business interests and side with activists in any other context besides bacon, in which case we decide that we trust large multi-national corporations to tell us the truth about their products and we think protestors should âstop preachingâ and get a job. We support collective boycott and understand that we can hurt corporations by refusing to purchase their products or use their services, but when itâs dairy on the line it apparently âmakes no differenceâ whether we buy it or not.
I donât say this to attack anyone, but I implore all of you to look at what animal agriculture actually is and reflect on whether or not eating animals aligns with your values. Look at what we are doing to our world for the sake of chicken and cheeseburgers and consider whether or not that is compatible with your environmentalism. Look at what is being done to trillions of living, sentient beings at this very moment and really think about whether or not you think that buying the flesh and secretions of slaughtered animals really represents the most compassionate option available to you.
The non-vegans that are constantly like âWAAAAH, VEGANS SHOVE THEIR BELIEFS IN MY FACE!!!!1â are the same people that write shit like this:
These are my friends, Wallace, Finch, and Asparagus.
Wallace is called Wallace because he wallops people whenever they interact with him, his favourite type of communication is a playful headbutt and he NEVER backs down from a wrestling match (or loses one)
Finch is called Finch because he flinches every time you move, heâs the sweetest thing but heâs terrified of people, and he always keeps his distance.
Asparagus is called Asparagus because of his ear tag, labelled âaspergillusâ which indicates heâs had a skin infection in the past, but heâs incredibly inquisitive and curious and heâll hang out near you forever, but never really close enough to get in contact.
When I walk into their field, I become their guest, and I donât interact with them as a superior individual petting an inferior species, I see them exploring, wandering, nourishing themselves, communicating with each other, socialising, looking after their friends, defending themselves, and I know in my heart of hearts that each of their breaths is worth just as much as one of mine.
Iâm now coming to terms with the fact that my friends are scheduled to be shot in the head and stabbed very soon, at a slaughterhouse which Iâve been to before, and has a history of both ineffective stunning and mad cow disease.
Put aside the devastating impact of animal products on our environment, put aside the fact that we can thrive and be healthier if we choose a plant based lifestyle, and that animal products are major causal factors in a significant number of ailments which plague the western world, put ALL of that aside.
They want to live.
Tell me, what do you think would be a good way to kill these animals? And whichever method you choose, would you therefore want to undergo it yourself? No? Why not?
See, no matter which method you choose, a mentally healthy individual would never want to go through it themselves, because itâs not about which way you die, itâs about the fact that you want to live, right?
Now, final question: You recognise that no method of slaughter you can think of for these animals would be suitable for yourself because you want to live, and you also recognise that these animals want to live, likely just as much as you do, still with me?
So tell me:
What gives us the god damned right to inflict this on them?
If you wouldnât want to go through it, donât subject others to it.
End of story.
Period.
Leave my friends the fuck alone.

Your average person:
âLetâs cure cancer! We should strive to be better as a species! End world hunger! đđâ
Your average person after being shown that eating animals causes cancer, starves millions and will eventually cause the exponential escalation of climate change:
âHumans are a blip on this planet, nature will wipe us out and it wonât matter so ethical matters actually mean nothing to me up until the moment you stop talking about meat and then Iâm a #conscious #woke consumer again đđđâ
Except that such âevidenceâ is often highly slanted and disregards practical applications. If consumption of flesh caused cancer than carnivores would have insanely high rates, but they donât (heck, sharks are known for their cancer resistance being so incredibly high that some people mistakenly believe that theyâre immune from it). The primary thing starving people these days is inept distribution, and if food is being diverted away from the needy to farms of livestock, that canât exactly be put on the livestock but rather a system that permits that inequity to exist (also the same happens with plant crops as well). And as far as climate change, thatâs the farming industry as a whole as it contributes to pollution, as with basically any other unchecked industry. And agriculture is one of the greener industries out there, too!
So frankly your facts need some serious checking.
Hey there! I get that this all seems unlikely with no prior explanation or evidence, so Iâm gonna run through everything that Iâve mentioned the best that I can with the time that I have.
First, I just want to point out that the anatomy of carnivores and of humans is inherently different, everything about them from the increased acidity of their stomach acid to the reduced length of their intestines is an evolutionary trait designed to harvest all possible nutrients from decomposing flesh, without the added detrimental compounds (that we canât avoid).
This is why you will never find a carnivore suffering from high cholesterol, even though one of the largest killers of modern western humans is high cholesterol in the form of atherosclerosis, strokes, and heart disease:
âThe highest intake of red and processed meat were associated with an increased risk of stroke by 41 and 24 percentâ http://www.pcrm.org/health/medNews/meat-and-eggs-increase-risk-for-stroke
âVegans have 28% reduced risk of ischemic heart diseaseâ http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/70/3/516s.full.pdf
âAtherosclerosis associated with high dietary intake of meat, fat, and carbohydrates remains the leading cause of mortality in the US. This condition results from progressive damage to the endothelial cells lining the vascular system, including the heart, leading to endothelial dysfunction.â https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4315380/
On top of this, most of the other top killers of western populations can either be prevented or the likelihood of such reduced via alleviating animal products from the diet, such as heart disease, Alzheimerâs, diabetes, and of course, cancer.
The causes of these diseases vary but can all be explained mechanistically, and the mechanistic data all points towards animal product heavy diets being the problem, for example type 2 diabetes is known to be associated with a higher body fat index, and in a recent report by the world health organisation, the only dietary group associated with an acceptable average of BMI, saturated fat intake, and cholesterol intake as well as more, was vegans, not even vegetarians came close.
Cancer is known to be caused by hormones such as oestrogen and IGF-1, and meat is recognised in a recent oxford study as being the source of 40% of all dietary oestrogen, with the remaining 60% coming from dairy products. Cancer is also known to be stimulated by the proliferation of muscle tissues leading to the release of free radicals into the bloodstream, which is inherently present in digesting meat, this is why vegan blood has an inherently elevated ability to fight cancer. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/16094059/
And so yes, cancer has alternate stimuli for growth, but to discredit meat and other animal products in this process would be incomprehensible.
Now onto world hunger: Cattle are a catastrophically inefficient method of calorie conversion, estimates range from a calories in-calories out ratio of anywhere from 7.5-1 to 25-1, and it is because of this inefficiency of feeding a population 8x the size of our own, to then use as a food source, that 2/3rds of American produce goes to animals, and America alone could feed 1 billion people on plant based diets, whereas a global plant based diet could actually increase yield to feed an extra 4 billion people, but because so many people currently eat animal products, itâs necessary for places like America to import food from less developed countries, leaving those countries without enough food to feed their population. This is one of the methods that the meat industry use to run a monopoly over developing countries, which is criminal considering that 80% of starving children live in countries where food is either fed directly to livestock to be then subject to the horrors of live export, or the food is shipped to larger economies to be fed to animals there. http://m.dailykos.com/story/2013/9/29/1240661/-Feed-an-extra-4-billion-Grow-crops-for-humans-not-animals
Now yes, the system in place is largely responsible for this, this kind of inequity shouldnât be allowed to exist but the fact that it continues to be so immovable is because the majority of the first world demands it to be. If the demand for animal products was to cease, so would the resources of the animal agricultural industries, so would their power over less privileged populations, so would their immunity from legislative change outlawing their exploitative industries, and so would the strife of world hunger.
Now lastly, climate change is a biggie and Iâm running out of time to write this so Iâm just gonna copy some resources straight in here, feel free to ask and I can get back to you âď¸ learning about the consequences of diet is a difficult process, I understand this, I remember the pain of learning the damage that I was causing to people and animals all over the world, but after I was able to think rationally again, I realised that the best way to eliminate these issues is to wipe away the customer base, destroy the power on which these industries stand, and then once theyâre powerless, seek legislative change to ban industries from preying on vulnerable individuals, but we canât progress into the later stages whilst people are still buying the product! đ

Of course we arenât carnivores. But your proposal involved âeating animalsâ and I said that If that was a cancer causing factor then carnivores would have cancer rates far higher than we do (with the implication here being âthose of omnivoresâ). And the same goes for even other omnivores.
Thereâs more than enough food to go around but distribution is SO corrupt and out of whack that pointing to any single source, including livestock, oversimplifies the issue horribly and ignores the basic underlying reason, which is greed. Through history, weâve generally been able to balance our demand, including the demands of our livestock. We simply need to get better at standing up for ourselves.
Which is also what we need to do with climate change and workplace safety and all of that other stuff. Thereâs no reason that livestock would be doing all of that to the environment because the animals themselves simply donât have that sort of impact. Itâs the farming quality and ethics involved. I mean heck, look at how palm oil farmers have gone after orangutans, slaughtering so many, and thatâs not a meat producing industry. Theyâre not willing to think about the greater impact or the ethics behind what theyâre doing. And yet it doesnât make palm oil farms inherently destructive or the industry inherently environmentally dangerous. Itâs the same with any crop. Any crop has the potential to be destructive if planted by heartless and uncaring farmers. It can damage the soil for decades and even centuries, and thatâs even purely organic farming too!
So saying âthis is all because of eating meatâ is remarkably short sighted.
Okay I hear you! Iâll change that to âcauses cancer in humansâ then, I just assumed that it would go without saying honestly but my mistake.
There is enough food to go around! The problem is that we feed it all to livestock! The system is corrupt and yes we need reform, but if livestock werenât around, we would physically have no need to import so much from other countries because basic math would indicate that it would be an even bigger inefficiency than we have now, economically it would be idiotic. And so removing livestock from the equation would half the power of big Ag (by cutting out animal ag) and so the countries which weâve exploited for their food would have nowhere to sell the food but to their own people, it wouldnât be a perfect system still until we force reform, but you canât say an extra 4 billion peopleâs worth of food would hurt the situation.
Unfortunately, factory farming is the most eco-friendly way of keeping up with our demand for animal products, and itâs still economically devastating. Open pasture farming requires exponentially more space, and so more deforestation, more desertification and less carbon sequestration. Livestock by themselves arenât very damaging, but when global human biomass is around 350 million tons, and the biomass of cows alone is 560 million tons (not accounting for other livestock species), they could destroy the world on their own. Hereâs why livestock are damaging: *Excessive food consumption requiring: -Excessive deforestation (over 90% of Amazon deforestation is accredited to livestock) -Excessive transport of food and livestock -Mass exploitation of human labour
*Excessive waste runoff causing nitrogen rich ocean dead zones where nothing can grow or survive
*Reduced ability of the earth to sequestrate carbon due to deforestation, leading to less carbon dioxide being absorbed from the atmosphere, further speeding global warming
*Because of their colossal biomass, colossal greenhouse gas emissions, as mentioned earlier, livestock are responsible for 5% more CO2 emissions than all transport combined, and for 65% of all N20, which has 296x the global warming potential of CO2.
*Desertification of the earthâs surface due to constantly harvesting the land and then acidifying the soil with animal waste, reducing the arable land and the potential for forest land until we can repair the land surface.
The list really is endless my friend, and thereâs no way around it but to simply have less livestock, meaning a lot of people are going to have to stop eating animals, now yes there are other causes of these issues, but none on the scale of livestock, and to say âmeat is responsible for none of thisâ it to willfully ignore the necessary steps to saving our planet âď¸đ
Vegan culture is the collective sigh from the entire community while we watch an anti-vegan post go viral while knowing that literally every sentence of it is completely false.
people always ask me if iâm vegan because i love animals. but whether i love animals or not is irrelevent. i donât have to love every person i meet to know that killing an innocent person is wrong. same goes for non-human animals. you donât have to love someone to respect their basic rights.
a fb friend of mine just uploaded a video of starving children in yemen and captioned it "THIS IS WHAT CAPITALISM IS LIKE AND THEN U HAVE VEGANS WHO SAY STOP KILLING FOR FOOD I WOULD KILL ALL PIGS TO SAVE THSOE POOR CHILDREN" I CAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT
LOL So, I have 18 pigs. Their food is kept in cans. There are 8 cans total. Seven of them hold three 50-lb bags of food, and one only holds two 50-lb bags. When all of the cans are full, that adds up to 1,150 lbs. That sounds like a lot of food. Hell, it IS a lot of food. However, itâs only two weeks worth.Additionally, since our pigs arenât being raised for slaughter, theyâre actually being fed less than the vast majority of farm pigs. Anyway, the point of all of this is that people like your FB friend are simplistic thinkers. Thereâs more than enough land to grow food to feed all 8 billion people on this planet, but people would rather use that land to feed 70 billion livestock.
Here, I fixed it for you!

According to Harvard Medical School, âPlant-based eating is recognized as nutritionally sufficient.â
According to the Cleveland Clinic, âThere really are no disadvantages to a herbivorous dietâ.
According to The Mayo Clinic, âA well-planned vegetarian diet can meet the needs of people of all ages, including children, teenagers, and pregnant or breast-feeding women. The key is to be aware of your nutritional needs so that you plan a diet that meets them.â
In response to your "vegans shoving beliefs in our face" post, I think it mainly relates to the extremist vegans who attempt to convert people into veganism but throwing all of the reasons why people should go vegan but they just call non-vegans pieces of shit and disgusting. Yeah, there are people who will say this even if you just claim you're vegan and why but its mainly those who guilt trip or degrade non-vegsns because they dont want to make the same choices they do, they just dont respect
No anon. While itâs supposed to only refer to so-called âextremist vegansâ, itâs used against virtually all vegans. Since you clearly didnât read the post, Iâll repeat some of the stories. My friend was told that she wasnât allowed to wear a shirt that said âAnimal Defenderâ on the back of it to work because it made her co-worker feel âattackedâ. A customer complained about me to my boss because he heard me mention to a different customer that I was vegan. A woman gave the sanctuary I work at a one-star review solely because weâre vegan. This kind of shit happens all the time. Please stop dismissing my lived experiences. To anyone that may be curious, this is the post in question.
Animals donât want bigger cages or larger barns, they donât care whether or not theyâre grass-fed, or organic. They donât want to be RSPCA-Assured or Red Tractor Approved, because those labels are there for us, the consumer, to ease our conscience. All the animals want is to be free, truly free. Not free-range, not free to pasture 4 - 6 months of the year. Free to live their lives in their entirety, without fear of human inflicted pain, suffering or exploitation.

You donât get to claim that youâre too poor to be vegan and then claim that you only eat free range, organic, âhumaneâ animal products.
Sincerely, someone who has worked at Whole Foods and knows the cost of these things and someone who has actually lived in poverty (it me btw)
hey can we stop shaming ppl for eating what they can afford and trying to make themselves feel better bc assholes like you come for them no matter what lmao
Bad post op
Pay my medical bills
Itâs not a bad post unless you make it out to be something that itâs not. Which is exactly what youâre doing. Iâll pay for you to have that stick surgically removed from your rectum. Sound good, pal?

Where in this post am I shaming anyone for doing anything other than for lying? The whole point of this post is that free range, organic, âhumaneâ animal products are extremely expensive. So if you claim that youâre too poor to be vegan but you also claim to eat those things regularly, youâre either lying about being poor, or youâre lying about only eating âhumaneâ animal products. I can admit when Iâm being an asshole, but this is not one of those times. You need to stop with the SJW bullshit.
nonvegan reading comprehension is shit as usual
Truthfully, I think they damn well know what my post meant. However, they're desperate to try to make me out to be the bad guy here, so they're choosing to turn it into something that it's not.
