Okay so since today was the comeback date I spent all my time watching interviews of the guys in America. While watching one video ( https://youtu.be/Ne2x0P4u3H8 ) at about 8:20 or so Namjoon brings up that sometimes it’s hard to love ourselves and how that was his last goal in life. But what if this is what ‘Fake Love’ is about? Like they changed themselves just to finally be happy with themselves. They’re now tired of having to pretend to love themselves when they actually don’t. They’re wishing to hide their weakness which would be their self-hate. They then ended up have to pretend to be happy for the rest of society to see instead of being sad. From there in Namjoon’s verse when he and Jungkook say “I wanna be a good man just for you” this could be him trying to fix himself so that he can try and love himself more. Then he starts saying “Now I dunno me, who are you?… I try to talk to the mirror ‘who are you?’” This could be him realizing he’s losing himself while trying to just love himself since he is changing everything. Following after, in the chorus “I craft a beautiful lie for you… I erase myself and try to become your puppet.” These lines could be them restarting as a new person trying to accept themselves and be happy but these changes are controlling their lives hence the puppet. Quickly this changed into “Why you sad? I don’t know, I don’t know.” This could mean that since they changed so much they don’t know why they’re still hurting when they thought it would make them feel better about them self. And that’s the theory feel free to leave responses but yeah ✌🏽
