āSora, your service in this expedition has brought great honor to the Empire. Rest now, before the next campaign begins,ā spoke His Majesty.
āAs you command, Your Majesty.ā
Sora returned to his residence alongside the Imperial Knights.
Truthfully, he was exhausted with life itself.
At such a young age, he had already begun preparing plans to disappear one dayāto abandon everything the moment boredom consumed him completely. The only reason he remained until now was curiosity.
The Emperor had promised him marriage to the Princess once the war against the Crimson Moon had ended.
Ah⦠he could hardly wait to see the princess become his newest amusement.
āTake your rest,ā Sora said to the knights, repeating the same words he uttered after every expedition. āAnother journey awaits in one week. Enjoy your leave with your families.ā
āYes, Captain!ā
The knights cheered in unison.
Upon arriving home, he was greeted by the head servant who had raised him since childhood.
āWelcome back, my lord. Your bath has been prepared, along with your favorite meal.ā
āHm. Thank you.ā
Flat.
Everything felt painfully flat.
Sora knew this routine too well. He had repeated it countless times until every action became hollow.
Bathing. Eating. Sleeping. Training. Working.
Again and again.
But that night, he could not sleep.
He drowned within the noise of his own thoughts.
āIs life truly this boring?ā
The question lingered heavily in his chest.
He had achieved everything people dreamed of⦠yet satisfaction always faded far too quickly.
āTch⦠I need something new.ā
The words escaped unconsciously, loosened by the grip of alcohol before exhaustion finally dragged him into sleep.
One week later.
Sora stood before the Emperor once more, prepared for another expedition.
āWarm greetings to the Sun of the Empire. May the light forever shine upon Your Majesty and your bloodline.ā
He knelt deeply.
āAnd may that same light guide you upon the righteous path,ā replied the Emperor.
āThis mission shall be yours alone.ā
Sora froze slightly.
It was unusual. He had never been sent without soldiers.
āIf I may ask, what task awaits me this time, Your Majesty?ā
āI command you to kill the leader of the gladiators-the rebel known as Illion.ā
The Emperorās voice darkened.
āYou have heard the stories from previous heroes, have you not? The monster who survived through the eras of twenty-one champions. Every warrior sent to slay him either dies⦠or returns broken.ā
A pause.
āAnd now, that duty has fallen upon your era, Archduke Sora.ā
Silence swallowed the throne room.
Yet inwardly, Sora smiled.
For the first time in years, he would be free from the eyes of the Imperial spies.
āThis mission shall be carried out, Your Majesty.ā
The night before his departure, rain drizzled softly over the Imperial Capital.
The sky was buried beneath rust-colored clouds while Sora stood alone upon his balcony, staring into the crimson wine swirling within his glass.
Alone again.
No soldiers.
No supervision.
No knights worshipping him like a god of war.
And for the first time in yearsā¦
Life felt slightly interesting.
The next morning, he departed northward toward the forbidden territory of the gladiators.
A land known only as.
The Broken Colosseum.
A ruined arena drowned in crimson fog and the scent of ancient blood.
Along his journey, Sora found traces of destruction everywhere.
Burned war carriages.
Broken knightly swords.
Imperial emblems trampled into the dirt.
And the farther he walkedā¦
the more he felt watched.
Then~
Clang~
The sound of metal echoed softly behind him.
Sora turned instantly.
Someone stood atop the remains of a stone pillar.
Long silver hair danced beneath the night wind. A black cloak flowed behind him like raven wings, while his eyes-
those eyes-
glowed a dark crimson, like the legendary Red Moon itself.
Beautiful.
Far too beautiful to be called human.
His frame was slender yet elegant, marked with thin scars that only made him appear more dangerous. Black gloves covered his hands, and a silver chain rested around his neck. A thin sword hung lazily by his side.
Sora found himself staring for several seconds too long.
āSoā¦ā
The stranger smiled faintly.
āArchduke Sora has finally arrived alone.ā
His voice was soft. Deep. Comforting-
and terrifying.
Sora narrowed his eyes.
āYouāre Illion?ā
Illion bowed theatrically, almost as though he were dancing.
āLeader of the gladiators. Monster of the Empire. Eternal rebel.ā
A quiet laugh escaped him.
āChoose whichever title pleases you most.ā
Slowly, Sora unsheathed his sword.
Yet strangelyā¦
he did not attack.
Because Illion simply stood there.
No killing intent.
No battle stance.
Instead, Illion slowly spread his arms open.
āIf killing me is truly your missionā¦ā
His voice softened.
āThen do it now.ā
Silence.
Cold wind swept through the ruins.
Sora frowned.
āYou surrender?ā
āIsnāt that why you came?ā
Illion smiled faintly.
āIām tired of running.ā
Soraās blade stopped inches from Illionās throat.
But he could not move further.
Their gazes collided.
And for the very first time in years-
Soraās heart felt alive.
One beat.
Then another.
Finally, Sora lowered his sword.
āHow boring,ā he muttered coldly. āI came to kill a monster, not a man offering his neck willingly.ā
Illion laughed softly.
And somehow, that laughter made Soraās chest feel strangely chaotic.
āCatch me if you can, Mr. Perfect Sora.ā
Then-
Slash!
Illion vanished like a phantom.
Sora chased after him immediately.
The days that followed became a strange game between them.
Sometimes they fought beneath the rain.
Sometimes atop the shattered arena.
Sometimes within silent forests buried in snow.
Their blades clashed endlessly-
yet neither truly wished to kill the other.
And slowly, Sora realized something horrifying.
He enjoyed this.
He enjoyed Illionās mocking smiles.
The way Illion appeared and disappeared like smoke.
The way those crimson eyes looked at him as though Sora were the only living soul left in the world.
āWhy do you never fight me seriously?ā Sora asked one night.
Illion sat atop the ruins, wiping blood from his fingers.
Earlier, Sora had nearly pierced his shoulder.
Yet when Illion had the chance to retaliateā¦
his blade intentionally missed.
āIām afraid of hurting you,ā Illion answered softly.
Sora froze.
Illion smiled faintly.
āFunny, isnāt it?ā
āA monster like me⦠unable to bring himself to harm the Empireās hero.ā
Sora stepped closer.
āThen fight me seriously.ā
Illion lifted his gaze.
Their faces were dangerously close now.
āAnd what if I truly kill you?ā he whispered.
For the first time in years, Sora smiled.
A small, genuine smile.
āThen try.ā
Illion stared at him for far too long.
Then he laughed quietly and turned away.
āCatch me if you can, Mr. Sora.ā
But happiness never lasts long.
Back in the capital, the Empire had begun to grow suspicious.
Too much time had passed.
Sora had not returned.
And eventually, the Emperor secretly dispatched the Imperial Knights to hunt Illion down.
That night, Sora realized the truth too late.
Flames already consumed the gladiatorsā hideout.
Screams echoed everywhere.
Blood stained the earth.
Soraās eyes widened as he saw Illion kneeling amidst the ruins, a deep wound carved through his abdomen.
And even worse-
the knights carried the emblem of Soraās own division.
Illionās crimson eyes trembled.
āSo⦠this is how it ends?ā
His voice cracked faintly.
Sora rushed toward him immediately.
āIt wasnāt me-ā
āYOU BROUGHT THEM HERE!ā
For the first time-
Illion was truly furious.
The killing intent he had restrained for so long exploded violently into the air.
āATTACK!ā Illion roared toward the gladiators.
War erupted that night.
Gladiators against knights.
Blood and fire swallowed the darkness.
Sora tried desperately to stop them-
but no one listened.
And finally-
Clang!
Soraās sword collided against Illionās.
Their gazes were no longer playful.
Only wounded.
āI didnāt betray you,ā Sora said through gritted teeth.
āYou are part of the Empire.ā
Illionās voice shook.
āAnd that alone is enough.ā
Illion attacked again.
But his movements were unstable.
He had lost too much blood.
Sora noticed-
and for some reason, it made his chest ache unbearably.
āStop fighting!ā
āKill me if you can, Mr. Killen Sora.ā
A thin trail of tears slid down Illionās face as he smiled.
āBecause Iā¦ā
āā¦canāt run anymore.ā
Slash!
Soraās blade pierced through Illionās body.
Silence.
The world stopped moving.
Illionās body weakened within Soraās arms.
Sora trembled violently.
For the first time in his lifeā¦
his sword felt unbearably heavy.
Illion laughed softly while blood spilled from his lips.
āSo in the endā¦ā
āā¦you won.ā
Sora held him tightly.
But the warmth slowly faded from Illionās body.
Those crimson eyes that always mocked him gradually lost their light.
āCatchā¦ā
Illionās breathing trembled weakly.
āā¦me⦠ifā¦ā
The sentence was never finished.
And that night-
something inside Sora died with him.
Sora returned to the Empire as the greatest hero in history.
The people celebrated his victory.
Flowers covered the streets.
Bells of triumph echoed throughout the capital.
And as promised by the Emperor-
he married Princess Iselleta.
Beautiful.
Elegant.
Perfect.
Together, they became the ideal royal couple.
But every night-
whenever rain fell against the windows-
Sora would awaken suddenly.
And without realizing it.
He would always glance toward the balcony.
As though hoping someone stood there smiling faintly beneath the rain.
It was almost in the middle of the night, weekend, and Sora has nothing to do at the moment. He would usually call his girlfriend, but apparently she has some extra lessons to attend to.
āFuck⦠what am I going to do now?ā Sora muttered under his breath, annoyance written clear on his expression, but he understands that Illionās busy at the moment, so he decided that itās probably best to wait until sheās done. Seconds become minutes, minutes become hours, Sora could only watch the clock ticking high up on the wall.
After a moment of full of dread, Sora finally noticed just how dry his throat felt. āWas it this dry before-ā but before he could finish, he started to cough, a clear sign that heās been thirsty for a while without even realizing. His throat burns, itās genuinely dry to the point he forgot how to swallow. Thatās when he leaves to grab some drink.
Just as he was about to take a step, his phone alarm went off, indicating that Illionās already heading home. Out of pure excitement, he completely forgot about his throat and grabbed his phone to call Illion.
āAh, S-Sora?ā Illion asked, unsure about the sudden call.
āAre you home yet? Are you- are you on your way home?ā Sora immediately asked, voice still hoarse because he hasnāt drank anything.
āOn my way, kindaā She answered sheepishly, a slight chuckle following after. āYour voice⦠are you okay?ā
āOf course! Just- havenāt drink⦠yetā¦ā He has a feeling that she might get mad at him, atleast a bit part of him wished that she would. That⦠isnāt weird, okay?
āDonāt. Donāt drink, wait until I get thereā She ordered before ending the call.
Sora only stand still, fingers trembling around his phone, not daring to make even the slightest move. What does she mean by that? What kind of face would she make when she say that? Is she smiling?
He isnāt sure about the answer to that yet, but he could feel something warm deep inside his core, he couldnāt help but already shiver at the thought of her very presence, breath coming ragged and sharp, like his body is already reacting to the future actions.
He raised a hand across he body, palm marking all over his neck, already feeling hungry and in need of what is about to come. His other hand flied up to his hair, brushing and tugging at every strands that he could get, pulling out gasps out of himself.
All of a sudden, his doorbell rang, it must be Illion.
Sora limped towards the door, each step taking more of his energy, each step he gets slower, until his hand finally reached the door knob, he lets out a heavy sigh of relief, itās like he canāt properly think anymore.
Click, the door opened.
Illion stood infront of him, eyes widened slightly in surprise at the sight infront of her, āSoraā¦ā She whispered softly, kneeling down as her gentle but firm hands guide him down, then she reached to tuck a stray strand of his hair behind his ear. āIllion, shut up, pleaseā¦ā Soraās lips quivering as he managed to form such words, almost as if heās forgetting how needy he was being before.
Without a warning, Illion reaches inside her pocket and pulled out a blade, her right hand slowly guiding it on her left palm. Sora was caught off guard by her act, eyes widened in shock, but he isnāt complaining in any way, he could even feel himself enjoying the sight. āYou look like you might get hard any time soonā She chuckled, teasing the man infront of her, somehow still focused on gradually adding pressure into her palm, until it finally pricked her skin, and blood starts to pool on her palm.
āIllion! Are you okay-ā Sora was cut off when Illion suddenly shoved her bleeding palm against his open mouth, letting her blood fill his mouth, coating his tongue redder.
She presses the wound harder, letting out groans to let him know that he is sucking her blood just nicely. Occasionally she would give him looks, her eyes laced with approval, need, but also satisfaction at the same time, she knows just how weak he is to those eyes of hers.
He kept lapping up the trickling blood that keeps coming, his tongue coming numb to the thick and bold taste that keeps entering his mouth, the metallic taste making him drunk, small gasps and whines were let out as he slowly loses breath.
After a moment of bloodletting, the wound seems to have healed just enough for the blood to pur less, thatās when Illion finally let go. āHow was the-?ā She couldnāt finish her words when she suddenly felt lips capturing her own, hands cupping her face like itās the end of the world.
āMmphā¦ā She muffled in satisfaction, hands snaking to hold Soraās waist, roaming his body to the point his body starts shaking, but he kept sucking on her tongue like itās the only thing keeping him alive. Seeing just how weak Soraās legs have turned into, Illion helps him support by having him straddle her lap.
Sora was the one who first broke the kiss, breath coming in pants and short, āThat was crazyā he managed to say followed with a chuckle, although Illion doesnāt seem to get whatās so funny.
After a moment, Sora lingers his gaze on her bleeding palm, eyebrow furrowing slightly before saying, āUh, let me grab some antiseptic and bandagesā he leaves the room to grab said items from a medkit. Illion was left with her thoughts, thinking about just how intense that was, it was like they were both completely different people, or maybe itās just who they are when out of control? Maybe.
She was cut out of her thoughts when she heard footsteps coming closer, only after that that she hears, āGive me your handā it wasnāt demanding, but it surely sounds worried and sharp. She looks at her own bleeding palm, turning the angles around like sheās studying it, like she afraid that it would heal, āIllion?ā Sora asked again, now his voice purely filled with worry.
āAh, no, sorry, just⦠sorry.ā She mumbled carelessly, more likely to herself than to him, she gave herself a bitter smile before taking her hand out. Sora could only look at her with pity, trying to analyze what she could possibly thinking at the moment, but suddenly remembered that he had a task at hand.
āThis might sting a littleā He gave her heads up before pouring water on her hand, the sudden chill from the water made her body shudder, her blood finally stop trickling after that. He dries up her hand using a dry towel, gently patting the wound until itās actually dry, only then that he uses a cotton dipped in antiseptic to thoroughly clean the wound, āFuck-ā she bit her lower lip to hold herself from saying whatever she might say, the sting is quite strong especially because the wound id on her palm.
āYou okay?ā He asked, stopping for moment to look at her pained expression, it was⦠beautiful. Illion didnāt say anything, she didnāt need to, she just nodded softly as a sign for him to continue. After getting a confirmation, Sora grabs the bandage and places the starting end on the other side from the wound before he carefully wraps it around her hand, he ended it with cutting the roll and tying it up with the starting end,it came out tight and neat, but her hand has enough room to breathe.
She take a moment to look at the result, the bandage adorns her hand and it looked much more beautiful, and without realizing it, a satisfied smile tugged on her lips. Seeing such sight, Sora smiled with her, āYouāre smilingā he chuckled softly, the kind that makes her chest feels warm, like itās spring despite living in a country with two seasons.
āErr, thanksā She mutters just enough to be heard, but not enough to be understood. āUh, what was itā¦?ā Sora asked her, tilting his head in curiousity, he already had a feeling that she might be thanking him.
āI said; thank you!ā She yelled now, slightly annoyed, but somewhat flustered, and Sora could only laugh again just like he did before, and now Illion couldnāt help but laugh as well with him.
Sora wake up at 5.40 AM in his dreadful bedroom, āFuck, did I- that was a- THAT WAS A GOOD DREAM!ā he yelled in clear frustation, he wanted to sleep again to continue such dream, but he also needs to go to school today.
