I just think it's funny that some of the ~critique~ of Jayce and Mel's dynamic is that so many of their conversations are couched in 'politics'. And it's like, first of all, this isn't actually true. Maybe try watching their scenes, actually.
But even if it was, how is it a valid critique and used to contrast them to Jayce and Viktor who literally only ever talk about Hextech-science and then later Viktor's health problems, lmao??
It's just weird. Almost every single thing re: Jayce and Mel is either:
erased/ignored (like I've literally seen YouTube clip uploaders and GIF makers deliberately CUT OFF Jayce and Mel scenes/moments and curate content in such a way as to remove the obvious subtext between them, apparent from their first conversation, which is... a choice), or,
reduced to unimportance or purposefully misread or only read in a way to villainize / downplay Mel (when we know if these same interactions were happening between Jayce/Viktor, it would be touted as evidence of how they are meant to be!).
It's just funny to see how fandom rationalises their ship PREFERENCE (which is dumb because shipping is irrational, people ship things for all sorts of reasons, and some of that is informed by biases that need to be called out and dealt with but also it could just be that you like how two characters' hairstyles matched in that one scene lol) and often in blatantly problematic ways, because they can't handle that canon is moving in a different direction or that other preferences are possible.
Like, you can just enjoy your thing. It's okay. There's no need to denigrate, render invisible, erase, reduce etc. another thing (or character) just because it is NOT your thing.
