               a crash sounds as burnt wood  drops  to the ground in the aftermath of a fire. hiccup’s gaze turns to snotlout with  anger  but there’s more  EXASPERATION  than anything.   ❛  snotlout,  what  happened ?  ❜   that’s all the leader can say without going into a long  tangent  about responsibility, which he knows will  only  make the situation  worse  .

❝ … that was on purpose, ❞ he coughs out, hair singed  from being licked by monstrous nightmare flames; he had been training the entire afternoon, trying out some new moves with hookfang, setting up his own targets. evidently, it hadn’t turned out  t o o  well— but he’d consider this PROGRESS.

❝ can’t you see, we’re in the middle of some serious training here. right, hookfang? ❞

SHE FALLS silent, her mouth twisting into a sympathetic frown.  illness is no stranger to the island, especially during the LONG WINTER MONTHS, and even the most fortified household can easily fall prey to the smallest cough. there’s no fighting against what cannot be seen.     “  OF COURSE  you should worry, it’s your mother for frigg’s sake. but hey, at least gothi said she’ll recover, so it can’t be THAT BAD  “

❝ … i guess, ❞  he says, eventually, a hand rubbing at the nape of his neck. cerulean hues flicker briefly to the kind face next to him. he finds some comfort in her words— perhaps he’d simply been worrying a little too much  —but he loves his mother more than anything in the world. 

He’s never seen her around before, which strikes him as a little odd — or perhaps, not really. He’s not one to pay much attention to people out of his social circle, adults and teens alike. Despite this, Snotlout had figured that he’d at least recognise her face, but his mind draws a  b l a n k.
