Whenever I’m going through a rough patch, I listen to music and try to channel my feelings into the creation of an artwork. Making something beautiful out of something ugly helps me find closure and catharsis. This lady is an original character without a name. She's endured torture, but still, she's refusing to give up or become bitter.

KOTC: Digital Background Experiment

I took some inspiration from the digital backgrounds of my friend, Ymir 🤍

My doodle in Paint quickly evolved into a simple but decent sunset. I decided to play around with it in GIMP by adding glow and blur effects. And with some help from the Warp Transform and Smudge tools... TAHDUH! 🌈

... Okay, in retrospect, if I’d drawn on a larger canvas, the image resolution could’ve literally been DOUBLED. Lessons were learned! I think I’m going to make more digital backgrounds in the future! ^_^

Kindred of the Carvings: Eliphas Lionised (card)

Both sides of the card have separate light sources. The light shining on the lion is top-down. By contrast, Eliphas' light source is beaming from the right. The shading isn't perfect, but I had fun 🤍

The Cult of the Cutesy (KOTC parody)

Cast out by the Kindred of the Carvings, I journeyed alone in exile. Until I unearthed IT... Older than the corrosive tyranny called "time", it stood before me with majestic, fluttering eyelashes. I knelt and came to understand the one unfathomable truth of the ageless void... True transcendence lies in the pursuit of absolute cuteness!

Utterly overwhelmed by pink waves of forbidden knowledge, I ran. Fallen from cuteness, I committed the first Great Silly. But the binding shackles of madness could not blind me for long. No... Gliding on the glittering wings of glee, enthusiasm returned to me in splendour. I knew then that I had to doodle out a manifesto.

...Embrace the magic sparkles, bask in the adorable neon lights! May the gelid world go headlong into the Age of the Great Snuggle. And may the Fluffification commence.

By adjusting the position of her eyebrow, I added some anger to her expression. Lifting her lower eyelid makes it look like she's cringing slightly. Lastly, I added a decorative blush purely for detail. I didn't realise that it might make her look embarrassed. 💚

Fulmination ⚡️

The gauntlet belongs to Fulmination, a new character in the works inspired by Skull Knight from Berserk. Like a mythical, armoured phantom, she is a vengeful spirit, a phenomenon—she who appears like lightning and thrashes the darkness.

This is Fulmination's only appearance in the first book. I drew the gauntlet, fleur-de-lis, and background individually, then stitched them together digitally. The lighting was quite a fun challenge! The illustration above replaces my original illustration. ⚜️

Madness

Pinned to the floor, powerless, I looked up at the swarming cultists with a grimace. They tittered calmly with a look of predation in their soulless eyes. I could take no more… Finally, MADNESS(!) set me free from the cruel torture of rationally comprehending my imminent, inexorable demise. I felt an incredible, twisted tranquility. Laughing and wailing, I wept and struggled no further. From neither the cultists around me nor the walls themselves, I heard an undertone … it was cosmic. The unnamable thing hadn’t noticed me. It couldn’t discern my negligible, moribund existence in the void! …With battering rams and thundering guns, inquisitors stormed the labyrinthine chamber.

Notes:

This excerpt from my book, Kindred of the Carvings, might be some of my neatest, strongest writing so far. Over the years, I've managed to make a decent amount of progress, and I'm proud of it! The excerpt says a lot without actually saying much at all. Using the word 'undertone' immediately tells the audience, 'You can let your guard down; it's not loud,' and then there's the titanic, arcane reveal.

Alex Remembers 💔

On the left, Inquisitor Alex recalls the horrific events of the ‘Night of the Blood Moon Raid' —the Inquisition's decisive victory against the Gluttonous Heath. On the right, beneath a hanging corpse, a gluttonous cardinal trudges through a clearing in the Umbra Glade.

I took inspiration from many of Berserk's sylvan panels! In the book, this replaces my original illustration 'Alex Wept.' I made a lot of lighting mistakes, but I learnt a lot. 🖤🩷
