we gotta stop congratulating people on losing weight, like, as a society

Hi! I’m an obese person and I have cfs. Working out literally makes me worse. Eating healthy doesn’t actually make me lose much weight even over multiple years. I am naturally obese and I will always be. I think you are misunderstanding prejudice as medical fact and I’d suggest until you do more research to listen instead of speak over us.

There is an ABUNDANCE of research, and people with lived experience, and more coming out that suggests that intentional weight loss is bad for your heart and also not sustainable for more than a few years, that people who intentionally lose weight gain back what they lost and more, that people who are categorically overweight according to BMI (which is bullshit honestly) have more longevity than “healthy weighted” people, etc. etc. etc. Many people with disabilities of all sorts genuinely cannot exercise or eat “healthily” without risking an ER visit or death (like people with chronic fatigue syndrome, or mcas, etc. etc. etc.). Some people get fat because they develop illnesses that fuck up their metabolism. Some people are fat because they’ve recovered from life-threatening eating disorders. Some people are genetically predisposed to be fat due to a number of factors, such as generational trauma. Some people are fat for no particular reason, and some people like being fat, and that’s just as fine, too. If you only think it’s okay for someone to be fat after jumping through all those hoops above to justify it, that’s a problem. None of this “fat people deserve respect BUT.” Anyone and everyone who is fat for whatever reason or lack thereof (and those reasons are not your business) deserves love and respect, full stop. Weight loss, exercise, and a cultural obsession with being thin that’s ingrained in us through outdated medical science and capitalist string-pulling is bullshit.
