You ever go for a while without watching Black Sails and think that maybe all the analysis we're doing here on tumblr dot com is a wild extrapolation and we've taken it way further than intended, and then you rewatch it and are reminded that no, they were doing everything we say and more we haven't realized yet

the thing for me about watching flint's final speech is that i had seen it in gif form multiple times before watching the show. like i'd come across it on the dash and would always be like "yeah powerful stuff for sure" before scrolling on. and thus i sort of assumed it wouldn't hit that hard when watching it in context but uhhhhhhhhhhh. NOT a correct assumption. to put it lightly.

Watching black sails is just repeatedly watching Eleanor look at all the options available to her, spot the absolute worst of them all, ask "is anyone gonna take this one?" and not wait for an answer

I can’t help but think of Thomas in s4 when Flint is doing everything he can to die for the cause. I wonder how Thomas would feel knowing Flint was so desperate to martyr himself for Thomas’ ideals. With the way Thomas is dead-wifed, we only know what Flint thinks that Thomas would think. He’s a ghost in the story, he doesn’t really get to make decisions or have opinions. Would Thomas truly be happy knowing that Flint was willing to lay down his life for Thomas’ cause? After the reunion joy is over, I do wonder what that conversation (or lack thereof) would look like.
