lacyward:
“good.” Lacy was decisive in all things, and this was good. She didn’t want him to go, he wasn’t gonna. But now they needed something to talk about. Looking to the machines around her, she asked a question. “Has you ever been sick before?” He wasn’t sick now. Lacy liked all-better stories.
John honestly felt generally sick a lot of the time. He felt like he couldn’t pull himself out of bed most days, like he couldn’t eat, but he figured that’s just how life was for him now. “I’ve had so many yucky colds, if that counts?” He offered, though she probably meant something more serious. “How long have you been here, kiddo?”
petitececily:
Cecily was wondering around the building, seven the hallucinated cat following closely behind as she searched for Binkie cat, the toy she carried most places with her. it was tattered and old, it was missing his tail and while it had once been white in color, it was now slightly more grey, but that didn’t matter to Cecily, she needed that cat. Finishing her search of the rec room, she wondered to the next, where she was stopped by someone else. ‘‘ I’m looking for my binkie cat, he’s small and white with pink ears. ’’
John gave her a soft little smile as he listened. He nodded lightly as he looked back at her. “I can come and help you find him, yeah?” He offered as he moved to stand up from his seat. “He can’t have gone too far, can he?”
tasha-newman:
Tasha was a bit of a social chameleon. Her charm and extroversion was something she could click on for others to watch like a tv: bright, captivating, great for a story or two. But every so often, the sickly young thing let herself slip back into the comfort of wallflower-dom. Always the curious sort, she had a love for lingering just a little too long in shops or rooms, watching the strangers around her go through the expressions that strung together their days, their lives. If she ever got out of her cycle of hospitalizations, she would love to study psychology. This man was so far off–wherever his head was, his body was steady and firm as it was seemingly hollow, a sculpted nautilus shell hunched over a book. Usually, she had a good enough sense of when her lingering passed the “too long” point, but she found herself startled by the man’s voice as his eye slipped off the pages and found her in the doorway. “N-no, sorry, I uh… was just looking for somewhere to read was all. Library is having a class with the kids and it’s a little… little rowdy for my taste right now,” she covered.
“You can sit in here and read if you like?” John offered, looking back at her. It was just him in here after all, and he wouldn’t bother her if she wanted silence. Sometimes he felt more comfortable in it anyway.
alwaysaislynn:
Aislynn was never a runner. If a challenge knocked at her door, she loved to pull up her shirt sleeves and get ready for a fight; it was just her nature. Anxiety, however, always shook up her spirit and threw a wrench in that tenacity she toted so proudly. After depressive or anxious spells, her threshold for human interaction always plummeted through the floor. So why wasn’t this guy freaking her out? There was no pull to the door handle, no innate fear… maybe she was too tired to feel those things right now, or maybe, his fog was matching hers. She could see it, looking at him now: he was in the same place as her.
“…I, I guess I can for a bit,” she murmured, quietly slipping her way to the couch.
Sometimes he wondered if this was even the right place for him. It was full of kids and full of unhappiness and people with serious illnesses that maybe he couldn’t even cure. He just felt deflated most of the time, caught in a thick mist, and he didn’t know if he’d ever get out from under it. John went quiet for a little while, looking back down again. After a little while he glanced back over at her. “Everything alright?”

lacyward:
“that’s okay Mr doctor!” She was the exact opposite type person to blame a doctor when her treatment gave her side effects. She knew it was all in the name of getting better. “Um…” she didn’t know what to ask for. “Don’t go?” It wasn’t that she was scared. The social butterfly just liked talking to people. Her math was boring, compared to talking to people.
John couldn’t help but smile gently at her question. “Okay.” He nodded, moving so he could set his things down and he moved to sit down on the chair next to her. “I can stay awhile.”
lacyward:
“no…” she responded, rocking a little in the chair. “I get all yucky and then I don’t get better until a ittkr after chair time is all done.” All don’t used loosely, here. Because she was never all done.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” John gave her a sympathetic little smile, rustling papers and then flipping the chart back over, looking over at her. “Do you need me to get you anything?”
Cold Mornings And Hot Tea
Audrey was alway early to rise. She was already on her 4th cup of tea after waking at 4:30am. Now it was 8am, and despite the slight chill in the air, Audrey sat outside in the garden, watching a bee bumble between the flowers and listening to the whistling birds. Fingers massaged the sore skin around her eyes. Her eyes always seemed to be sore now adays. Maybe it was from her horrific sleeping pattern.
She took a mouthful of steamy tea, letting the sweet taste coat her throat. Audrey looked down at the note book in her lap, filled with absent minded scrawls of lesson plans. History must have been her favourite thing to teach. Maybe she would start todays lessons with that

John had been awake since five that morning. He didn’t need to be anywhere until nine today, it was a late start, and he had been hoping for a lie in. No such luck because he had been awake for the past hours, thoughts twisting around each other and driving him insane.
Now, with an hour to kill, John was nursing a cup of coffee in his hands as he made his way towards the garden. He needed some air and to feel more awake, hopefully the combination would help. He moved outside and jumped when he spotted someone else sitting there “Oh!” He laughed at himself a little. “Didn’t think anyone else would be out here.”
alwaysaislynn:
People just proved to be too much, too soon today. She really thought she could do it. Aislynn thought she could come out of hiding after all these weeks and just dive back into the regularity of social interaction, but even so much as talking to a nurse about how she was feeling was giving her anxiety again. Too wired to sleep but too tired to keep this up, Aislynn ducked into the rec room trying to catch a break–but to no avail. “N-no, I’m sorry I was just… um…” Really bad time for the fog to start coming back and take away her words.
John looked up at her. It was obvious she was lost for words but was it shyness or something else? He offered her a small smile, hoping he looked friendly enough despite his own head. “It’s alright.” He assured her. “You can sit if you like.”

lacyward:
“that’s fine!” she said, moving a little so he could see the numbers that her arm covered sometimed.
“i feel ish okay. gonna be yucky tomorrow. i’m on day… this many.” holding up two fingers, she explained that she was on day 2. on day 3, historically, was when she started puking.
John smiled as he moved a little closer so he could have a look and scribble some notes on the file in his hand. He looked up at her again when she held up two fingers. “Ah... day three not good, huh?” He asked, glancing quickly back down at the notes to double check that.
@bhqstarter
John was having a bit of a down day. Emotionally, that is. He’d been up all night, his mind tormenting him with memories of his family. It was torture and he hadn’t been able to lift himself out of the fog when he’d had to get up and go about his day. He was sitting in some random empty room with the door open, skimming a book but not really taking in the words. His gaze lifted when he heard shuffling at the door and he realised he was no longer alone. “Sorry, did you want the room?”
lacyward:
She smiled, friendly face meeting another. “hi john! Doctor John, I mean. Hi Mr Doctor John!” she was chirrping, her vibrant energy showing even from her chair. “new doctors?” she asked, a little nervous. had something bad happened to her old doctors? or maybe it was just because they wanted to get her all better sooner so they needed other doctors.
“okay…” she slowly decided, apprehensive to allow this but trusting enough to do so. “okay. hi new doctor John. are you here to look at mine beep-beep machines? I have lots of them, see?”
John smiled. She seemed to be in bright spirits despite it which was always nice to see. “Yeah, I’m just going to have a little look, if that’s alright with you.” He said, moving a little closer to where she was sitting. “Oh, I can see that! How are you feeling today?”
Lacy was just chilling. she spent the majority of her day on the machines, the ones that did one thing or another. she knew they all had one thing in common, they were helping her get all better.
she was currently coloring in a unicorn blue and pink when she heard someone come in. who was it? when the door opened, she found the answer. nobody she knew. still, she smiled, friendly.
“hi! i’m lacy! you’re a doctor, right? you’ve got a big white coat on…” she pointed to it with the hand that was free. “i think yous in the wrong room though… you’s not my doctor.”
@johnxkeyes
John was having a better day than usual. It was never easy but some days were just more manageable than the rest. He was grateful for those days but he also felt some guilt, wondering if it meant he was forgetting them or leaving them behind. John never wanted to do that.
He checked the folder in his hand as he pushed the door open and moved into the room, looking up at the little girl as she started talking straightaway. Clearly she wasn’t shy and John smiled at her. “Hi, Lacy. I am, yes. I’m John.” He introduced himself with a little chuckle, moving a little closer. From what he read, she was pretty sick and it was always sad. “I’m actually one of your new doctors.” He told her. “That okay?”
JOHN KEYES is a 48 year old DOCTOR with DEPRESSION at Brielle Institute and looks a lot like Damian Lewis.
MAYBE THEY’RE HIDING
John had the best life any guy could ask for. He had a beautiful girlfriend and a daughter. He had always been in and out of doctors offices with his daughter who was often sick. At such a young age his daughter had so many different conditions. It pained him to see his little angel like that. When she was five he found out he was going to be a dad again. He was thrilled and proposed to his girlfriend. They got married as soon as they could and had his second daughter shortly after. He decided to go into medical school because it was something that always intrigued him. His second daughter seemed to have much better luck with life than his first. His life was perfect and he was super excited to get his PhD. If he could help other kids or people like doctors have helped his daughter her whole life then it would be worth the hours and work he knew he’d have to put in.
WE HOPE THEY’RE PLAYING A GAME
Two years into his medical classes he got a call that he needed to go to the hospital as soon as possible. They wouldn’t tell him why as they didn’t want to panic him. Of course, it panicked him anyway. As soon as he got to the hospital they explained to him that his wife and daughters were in a really bad car accident. His oldest daughter and wife died on impact but his youngest was in surgery. Hours of anticipation went by as he paced the hospital hallways. His daughter had made it out of surgery and was alive. However, she was in a coma. They thought she’d have some type of brain complication if she were to wake up. That word if was terrifying. He spent months in that hospital room. Talking to his daughter, bringing her gifts and showing all his love. He mostly secluded himself away from everything. He had paused his classes in order to be there for his daughter. He did everything to coax her back to him.
BUT THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING
His daughter never woke up. He woke up to the sound of a flat-line one night just days after what would have been his daughters third birthday. He called for the nurses and they did everything they could but she was gone. He knew it was too good to be true if she had made it. He blamed himself. He fell into depression and didn’t really want to do anything. He stopped talking to his friends and pushed his remaining family away. He was a mess. He struggled with whether or not to continue his degree to get that PhD he had worked so hard on. He went to AA and got back on track. He slowly started taking his classes again and after the hardest few years of his life he got his PhD specializing in children, though he can help all ages. He looked into places in need of a doctor, specially children and teens. He found Brielle and knew that if he could maybe save someone from suffering the fate his daughter went through or even his oldest daughter who was always in and out of the doctors office, then Brielle could be the perfect place for him. He applied for the job and was offered a job almost immediately. Brielle’s staff could tell he was a kind heart but had a darkness inside him that interested them.
