Cleaning a Roach-Infested Coffee Maker
I didn’t believe this will happen by it did. The roach infestation in my house got so bad I actually found roaches inside my coffee maker one morning. I don’t usually have much time on the weekday to make coffee before leaving house but I do brew my own coffee for consumption on the weekends.
I was going to throw the entire coffee maker away but eventually decided to try looking for a better solution before deciding the fate of my 3 years old coffee maker machine. Spent the past weeks researching on the best solution and I think I’ve found it.
Can you really clean the coffee maker from roach contamination? The short answer is – Yes. You actually can clean the coffee machine in a way that keeps the coffee maker in a usable condition after cleaning.
How to Clean a Drip Coffee Maker
As long as you know how to brew a pot of coffee in a drip coffee maker, you are totally equipped with the ability to clean it.
First step in the cleaning process is to fill the carafe with equal amount of white vinegar and water, and pour it into the water reservoir. Place the empty carafe on the warming plate and turn the machine allowing the pot to brew.
Next, turn off the machine and let the carafe cool. Pour away the vinegar and water solution and proceed to wash the carafe with hot, soapy water. Rinse well till water runs clean.
Simply give the carafe a smell to see if there’s any more vinegar smell left, if it’s all good then there’s no need to repeat the rinsing process. Now that the most important part is settled, go ahead and wash any removable parts like the filter basket with hot, soapy water.
Once you are satisfied, simply leave the now clean machine to dry or dry it with a towel. You may start enjoying the coffee again.
The key to keeping roaches away is to keep your machine dry and in a cool storage area. Use the machine often and always wash the parts before using it.
