I’m Tired.

“Our world has set itself afire; we must look elsewhere to quench the blaze.”

“What a beautiful boat! When you’re finished will you just sail away into the clouds? “

Money serves various purposes according to our needs. The same is true of the Lotus Sutra. It is a lantern in the dark or a boat at a crossing. At times it is water and, at times, fire. This being so, the Lotus Sutra assures us of 'peace and security in our present existence and good circumstances in future existences.'

“The Lotus Sutra is like the seed, the Buddha like the sower, and the people like the field.”

“There are not two lands, pure or impure in themselves. The difference lies solely in the good or evil of our minds. It is the same with a Buddha and an ordinary being. When deluded, one is called an ordinary being, but when enlightened, one is called a Buddha.“

“If one befriends another person but lacks the mercy to correct them, one is in fact their enemy. ... One who rids the offender of evil is acting as their parent.”

“Flowers blossom in spring, and fruit ripens in autumn. Therefore, it is only natural to sow seeds in spring and reap the harvest in the autumn.”

“Even though one may be a wise man or a scholar, if he falls into hell, he will amount to nothing and can be of no assistance. The essential thing, therefore, is that at each hour, at each moment, one should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.”

“Could your having taken pity on and made offerings to such a strange person be because you were my parent in a past existence, or could it be due to karma from a past lifetime? It is certainly no ordinary thing. Moreover, it is when the rain pours, the wind rages, and people try to hold one back that one’s resolve comes to the fore.”

"If you would know a mystic, do not confine your search to monasteries and temples, but look also on the highways and byways, in towns, hamlets, and in the hustle and bustle of the great cosmopolitan centers of the world. When you find someone who is industrious, studious, compassionate, loved by friends, and neighbors, tolerant in religious views, and who can point out to you the magnificence and efficacy of God in the simplest of things, you have found a mystic. With these qualities, whether one is attired in sacerdotal robe or in the overalls of a mechanic, one is none the less a mystic."

“I have believed it is most important to understand one’s obligations to others, and made it my first duty to repay such debts of kindness. In this world, we owe four debts of gratitude. One who understands this is worthy to be called human, while one who does not is no more than an animal."

“We're all dying. The world is one big hospice with fresh air.”

“How could I, then, think lightly of those who, even for a day, have acted as allies and extended their sympathy to me?”

“There's ways of killing yourself without killing yourself.”

Therefore practitioners of the Lotus Sutra should think of the place where they are as the pure land. Why worry about trying to go somewhere else?
