“I went out last night with a crowd of my friends,
It must’ve been women, ‘cause I don’t like no men.
Wear my clothes just like a fan
Talk to the gals just like any old man.
'Cause they say I do it, ain’t nobody caught me
Sure got to prove it on me.”
—“Prove It on Me Blues,” Gertrude “Ma” Rainey, 1928
This is all we had.
In the late ‘40s, 1950s and 1960s, it was hard to find images of black lesbians in popular fiction, particularly on the covers. Lesbian pulp fiction, as it’s now known, wasn’t known for its racial diversity. Here’s a handful of lesbian pulp fiction covers, along with the bible of lesbian coming out reading back in the day: The Well of Loneliness. …We’ve come a long, long way.

Lamar Abrams (storyboard artist & voice actor on Steven Universe) made some interesting commentary about how we present our characters in media a while back.
You guys should follow his twitter, it’s great.

Why My Relationship With Online Banking Went Down in Flames “I’m a pretty easygoing, forgiving person–unless you jeopardize my money. BBHMM is one of my anthems. So when a fraudulent charge of $91.00 appeared on my online checking account, I wanted the issue resolved immediately.”
Meryl is causing quite a stir while promoting "Suffragette." Here's why her words - including the ones on her shirt - are causing all kinds of controversy.
“Between donning a controversial, culturally insensitive t-shirt and denouncing feminism, Streep has become yet another female celeb to bring the f-word into the spotlight…and toss it to the side.”
sometimes I write about current events, not-so-current events, and the the way events are retold!

Are you a woman/female presenting NB employee in a male-dominated workplace?
I'm writing an article about thriving & surviving in a male-dominated field or workplace, and I’m collecting advice & anecdotes from women who have/are working in a male-dominated place.
The target demographic is millennial women, so submissions from women at least 17/18 are ideal.
Include your first name, age, and where you work(ed). If it’s a local business and you don’t want to be specific (cuz ya wanna keep your job), you can just say “I work at a law firm” instead of “I work at Bob & Bobson (idk) in New York City”.
Nobody likes getting fired! If you don’t want your name to be used, let me know right off the bat. Tell me if you’d rather go by a fake name or “anonymous”.
Please submit here! I need at least one story and a piece of advice. Feel free to vent. It’s very cathartic. :)
Your exact words will be quoted. As I said earlier, feel free to tell as much as you like.
I’ll be closing submissions in a week (on August 7th).
I’ll be sure to post the article when it goes live!! Thank you so much!!
Believe it or not: you can cook healthy meals for less than $4 a day.
Healthy meals aren’t cheap—at least, that’s what I’m gleaning from the recipes I find floating around Pinterest and other corners of the web. My broke college student years were marked by concurrent minimum wage jobs and all-nighters fueled by cheap, carb-y eatin’. Now I’m a recent college grad and I’m still trying to make ends meet. This time around, I’m trying to eat better.
That’s why Leanne Brown’s cookbook is a godsend.
