“You would be shocked to know that I get asked this question a lot. Well maybe you don’t get shocked actually. I mean, I am as tall as a bean stalk.” Mickey chuckled before reaching on the shelf that the other mentioned and grabbed the box for her before moving to hand it to her. “Hey, that’s alright. Maybe if I need something on a low shelf, I’ll ask you. You know, all the bending isn’t good for my knees or back.”

“Alright so... I’m a dentist... which is pretty buttoned up when it comes to professions yet, I’ve always wanted a tattoo. What’s a good one to get that won’t interfere with my daily work and have me avoiding looking like Steve Martin’s dentist from Little Shop of Horrors?”

“This may seem like a wild request but... could you grab that pack of gloves from the top shelf.” She paused as she looked towards the stranger in the aisle. “I was, unfortunately, not blessed with the height of a basketball player and now have to ask strangers for help on a daily basis.”

“Hypothetically speaking,” Audrey began, tapping the tip of the pen she held against her chin, “And it’s purely hypothetically speaking: how old is too old to try something new?” 

“Is this a trick question? Because the answer is... there’s not an age limit when it comes to trying something new. In fact, I tried hot sauce for the first time the other day. Some things will be harder to learn than others and I think that’s about it.”

TEDDY.

‘really? great!’ teddy held out the drink, nodding in agreement to her terms. ‘did you take things from strangers last year? massively dangerous, if you ask me. alright, i’m teddy montgomery and i… own sandals. it’s a seafood restaurant down by the pier. i promise the smoothie is completely untampered with.’ they said before smiling widely at the other. ‘what about you? i’m telling myself to not give things to strangers this year.’

ravi inspected the lock but it was indeed locked. this was probably some sort of ploy from their supervisor to get out and see the sunlight. they sighed in relief and let out a little chuckle. ‘i think someone’s playing a trick on me then. those piranhas are ruthless and i’d to be liable for loss of hands.’ they joked before nodding, ‘oh yeah? wow, insured hands. what do you do? sorry, am i completely interrupting your alone time? i can go…’

@ DELIA’S CAFE: Approximately 9:30AM [OPEN] 

 The crisp Maine air hit Jackson abruptly as he left the gym post-shower, his dark curls almost immediately turning into icicles. Winter wasn’t exactly his favorite season and he seemed to always be unprepared for the harsh conditions. Of course, it snowed in England, but something about the Northeastern hit different. “Fuck,” he sighed, hugging his hoodie to his body tighter as he walked along the sidewalks toward his favorite local coffee shop. After a few minutes, he arrived and quickly stepped into the coffeeshop. Upon entrance, Jackson walked right into someone. “Shit, I’m sorry,” he said with a smirk. “I guess I was so excited for my triple-shot espresso that I forgot how to walk,” he quickly added, shivering slightly as his body adjusted to the warmth of Delia’s.  

Jo was running ridiculously late. Well, her first appointment wasn’t until 10 but she typically liked to get to her office by 9 so that she could make sure everything was in order before the dental hygienist and her assistant arrived for the day. Just as she’d picked up her coffee, she turned to find herself walking smack dab into a fellow customer. “Motherfucker.” She grumbled to herself as the luckily cold coffee found its way onto her white sweater. “Sorry, sorry. You’re not the motherfucker as this was an accident. It’s just my goto reaction for well...” She motioned to her sweater. “This.”

ravi was thankful that they had a couple days off after the grayson incident to recoup their mental energy. it wasn’t good that this was right around having to submit his thesis ideas and continue to manage the marina. with all the kids slowly going back to school, the traffic was dying down and most days ravi could just focus on his work. today was a quiet day until he got word of an individual sticking their hand in the piranha tank. they were certain they’d locked the lid, but who was to know? ravi set down his work and ran out to search the premises, but when they got there the lid was shut. ‘erm, did you see someone stick their hand in the tank and then shut the lid? or am i getting pranked? was it you?’ ravi said as they approached the closest person to the tank. ‘you wouldn’t be in trouble or anything, but like… that’s very dangerous.’

the perks of a small, friendly town was that even when you didn’t know someone, it was likely okay to trust them. at least teddy always did. everyone in moorbrooke was kind and it was so rare to find someone downright terrible. teddy didn’t think twice to hold out the extra smoothie to the stranger. ‘i’ve got an extra smoothie if you’d like. some sort of kale concoction. pineapple and strawberries and kale they said. i’m actually a little allergic to pineapple so i can’t drink it. the barista at nourish said i could have it and yeah..’ they said with a smile, sipping happily from their own smoothie.

Where: Moorbrooke’s Christmas Market When: Afternoon Who: @moorbrookestarters​ 

Christmas was James’ favourite time of year, there was no doubt about that. He loved all the pretty lights and the music and the food and the presents and everything else that came along with it. Their apartment was covered in decorations and the tree – which had been almost knocked over a few times by his cat – was also covered head to toe in an assortment of unmatching decorations. Even though Christmas was technically over, that didn’t stop James from still having Christmas fun which is why he’d spent the morning ice-skating and then to the Christmas Market afterwards to get some food, and maybe buy some extra things even though that was precisely what he didn’t need. 

Hot chocolate was the first mission and of course it wouldn’t be right without cream and marshmallows. But when he reached in his pocket to grab cash, he realised he didn’t have enough to add it on and he was DEVASTATED. They looked around the area, making eye contact with the person in the queue behind him. “Hey, hey, you wouldn’t happen to have 10 cents in your pocket, would you? I’m buying hot chocolate and obviously it would be an absolute SIN to not have marshmallows but I don’t have enough change. I never carry around cash because I just lose it.” A sad sigh left their lips before James looked pleadingly at the other, hoping sad puppy eyes would do the trick. 

“Not to be forward, well maybe I am but it is the festive season and all. But how do you feel about having a coffee with a doctor who’s just had a crappy day?” Wesley gave a small laugh. "Some human company would be nice right now.”

“Only if you’re okay with having a coffee with a dentist who detests winter break.” It was true, winter break and summer break seemed to be Jo’s busiest times of year. That’s what happens when the parents try to schedule every important appointment for their children while they’re on holiday.
