I just had an incredible week with activists from @ende__gelaende and @luetzibleibt, covering direct actions to stop coal mining. Lützerath is a small village in German near Cologne, just under 2h from Brussels or Amsterdam, 5h from Paris. It's on the edge of a large coal mine, one of the most polluting place in Europe, run by RWE, the coal lobby emitting 270,000 Tons of CO2 emissions a day. #Lützerath is the front line of the climate movement: as the last farmer refuses to loose his home, farm and land to the expansion of the coal mine, thousands of activist are joining forces to oppose RWE, the "coal mafia". Irradiance and refraction. More experiments on visual perception: the perceived depth, reflections, illuminations, diffraction are all "simulated". Impromptu projections in Rennes. Last week I was back in my hometown Rennes for @electronik_maintenant festival, and we improvised a series of projections in public space. Climate action with #endegelände ! More pictures from last week's actions with @ende__gelaende: 3000 activists, 16 action groups resisting against the fossil fuel industry ! Pictures 1, 2: Laser projection on Neurath power station, one of the most polluting of Europe. (7 of the 10 most polluting coal power plants are in Germany. 400.000 people die from air pollution every year in Europe.) Pictures 3: activists took over and blocked a "coal bunker" for several hours. Pictures 4, 5: Another group was stopped just a few hundred meters before reaching the pit. Time for experiments. Cryptoart on pepper's ghost. This is a combination of several elements: - I short animation made for an unreleased project in 2016. - a pepper's ghost display that allows to make images float in mid air. - I'm making this piece available (display not included) as #cryptoart, a new market place for artists based on blockchain technology. It has the potential to solve several issues present in the art market (easier access, tracking of ownership, artist share on second market sales, getting rid of banks). Preparing my laser for upcoming actions with #alledörferbleiben. Several villages are threatened to be razed in Germany for the expansion of a coal mine, and people are getting kicked out of their homes. 22 villages have been razed already. Villagers created @alle_doerfer_bleiben to protest against the expropriations. Their logo, a yellow cross symbolizes a barricade to stop the baggers. The #L277 road leading to the largest village Keyenberg is currently being demolished, and activists from the entire region have been blocking the site for 6 days already, to slowdown and oppose the destruction. @ende__gelaende, @fridaysforfuture.de, @extinctionrebelliondeutschland amongst others. The police protects the coal company and corporate interests, and they facilitate the destruction of communities. There won't be climate justice without social justice.
