Me, Internally: The “snakes” St. Patrick drove out were things like Paganism and the Gaelic language - he and the religious &cultural erasure and crusade that he represents shouldn’t be celebrated. He literally wrote about burning books and praying for druids to die in his confessions. We have archaeological proof that there were never any literal snakes to drive out of Ireland. Spreading Christianity was his mission and he appropriated Celtic symbols to convert people and erase their original meaning. We can literally see evidence of that being hung on walls in homes today. There’s more evidence for the elimination of Paganism theory than there is of St. Patrick ever using a shamrock to teach anybody anything.
