Chapter 3: The Intimacy of Fighting

Shin had never imagine that dating Kumiko would be easy. Most of the time he chases her as she helps her troublesome students. He never complains and he he would be lying if he says that he doesn't enjoy it too. Seeing her students finally realize her sincerity and passion to help them is always satisfying. Specially that Reita, who was so guilty after he pretended that they were caught by a gang, which ended up Kumiko getting beaten up after the gangsters threatened that they would hurt Reita. Luckily Shin followed her and called for back up. Shin of course was furious and worried as hell that Kumiko got hurt, but it was because of that incident that Kumiko finally accepted him and kissed him, in front of his former classmates and her students.

Shin despite looking aloof and nonchalant, knows that he is whipped and actually embraces it. Though he doubts that Kumiko knows it. The fact that he's training to become a yakuza lawyer is proof enough. And besides that, he listens to her rants, stories about her beloved students and her family. He never gets tired even if it takes hours. He does ridiculous things like watch endless yakuza movies with her, wearing fundoshi every year for that event and even go along with any ridiculous plan she comes up. He was actually even willing to give her up when Shinohara-san offered to take Kumiko to Hokkaido if it makes her happy.

But what he doesn't tolerate and absolutely hates is when Kumiko still treats him like her student, or wheb she treats him like a kid. Like when she listened to his dad about his future like he can't decide for himself when he was abducted by another yakuza princess. She had the audacity to confess to him that she would never love another then ignored him so that he would not be associated with the yakuza when he becomes a lawyer. Like he hadn't told her about his plan on becoming a yakuza lawyer. Still he chased after her, told her that he would always follow her. Except when he finally had enough.

"You should consider dating a normal girl." Kumiko randomly said, as they were in a lunch date in front of Shin's university. Kumiko shoved another spoon of cake on her mouth in nervousness as Shin only raised a brow at her. "I mean, a woman who's not a yakuza princess. Hell, have you even dated someone your own age?" She tried to reason through her full mouth.

"Yes I did." Shin paused, recalling a certain event back when was still in highschool. "One time, when I tried to forget you when Noda and others set me up back in highschool." Kumiko slammed her fist on the table. "See, you haven't tried seriously dating anyone aside from me, your teacher."

"Former teacher." Kumiko ignored his correction and continued. "What if you only haven't met anyone from your age, or not a yakuza princess, that you actually liked because of me? I might only be hindering you from finding your true love." Kumiko tried to hide her actual feelings by acting exagerratedly even standing up.

"Look, enough. What brought this on?" Shin asked, obviously pissed. Kumiko smiled meekly and sat down. "Uhm, I accidentally saw you talking to this pretty girl before you entered the cafe. You two looked good together. You even smiled!" Kumiko tried to smile.

"So you're jealous?" Shin smirked as Kumiko blushed. "No! I just thought that, what if you were too busy with me that you haven't even considered dating anyone else. You're still young and maybe I led you on?"

"Kumiko. Stop. I am in love with you. You did not lead me on. I chased you for years remember?" Kumiko saw how this is starting to affect Shin so she just nodded and smiled to let it go.

A few weeks later Shin couldn't help but feel that Kumiko has built a wall between them. Though she'a still the same passionate teacher that he has fallen in love with, he felt that she distanced herself after their talk last time. And this pissed him off. It wasn't like that he did not understand her feelings but he felt like she had disregarded his feelings and how he had shown her that he loves her countless of times through the years.

"Shin, look at that girl, isn't she the girl you talked to last time? Aren't you going to say hi to her?" Kumiko elbowed him continously as she talked. "You're finished, right? Come on, let's go." Before Kumiko could say that Shin haven't even touched his food, he had already walked away.

"Are you not going to stop talking like that? Do you think that I am that childish? That I am just here because I haven't looked for more?" Shin asked after a few minutes of silence as they walked home. "I am serious about it, Shin. I don't you to regret it. You won't be able to enjoy your your youth if you're stuck with me." Kumiko realized that Shin had stopped walking.

"You think I'm stuck with you or is this you thinking that you're stuck with me? I love you, Kumiko. I have said and showed that for years now. I have always chased you, always followed you to wherever or whatever you do." Shin's voice was shaking. This is the first time that Kumiko saw Shin hurt, and it hurts her too. She just doesn't know why she could not say anything.

"If that is not enough then maybe we should just break up." Shin waited for a few minutes for Kumiko's reply. But she didn't say anything so Shin just took it as an agreement and left.

"Yamaguchi-sensei!" Kumiko nearly jumped when Fujiwara-sensei shouted at her ear. "What?! What happened?!"

"Your class ended 30 minutes ago." Fujiwara eyed Kumiko's face, which is once again drawn by her students. "Oh, right." Kumiko absentmindedly gathered her papers some even falling. "I saw Sawada just now." Fujiwara finally connected the dots as she saw Kumiko flinch with the mention of Shin.

"You both have the same look. Like you just had a fight." Fujiwara decided to help her poor co-teacher who is now surprisingly on the verge of crying. "I thought Shin would actually be here since he's always following you, I expected that he would be here trying to make up with you."

"Shin. He actually broke up with me."

"He what?!" Noda suddenly barged in together with the rest of his group. "Oi, Yankumi what's happening?" Kuma asked as he placed his delivery down.

"Nothing's happening. What are you guys doing here?" Kumiko busied herself once again with her papers. "Shin ordered food for you. He said you might not have eaten yet." Kumiko finally stopped and looked at her former students who were looking at her concernedly.

"That guy. How is he going to find someone else if he's going to do this." Kumiko discreetly wiped a tear. Minami and Noda slowly backed away, scared to see her crying. "He told you that?" Fujiwara was surprised.

"No, I did. I told him to find someone his age or at least someone who is not a yakuza princess. But he never listen. He only does what he wants. What's the point of breaking up?" Kumiko sniffed and grabbed the ramen from Kuma's hand.

"You're both wrong and right." Everyone looked at Kuma. "He always does what you want specially if he knows it makes you. Same when he does what he wants, either he does it to make you happy or he knows it would be good for you. Now that you said what you said making him think this is actually what you want, what do you think he'll do?" Noda grabbed Minami's hand in anticipation.

"What happened to the Yankumi who said that she likes Shin most in the universe and that you would never love another. Would you be able to take it if he actually find someone else?"

"Kuma really went for the final blow." Minami whispered to Noda who nodded solemnly. Kumiko was not able to say anything but look at her ramen. "But don't you think he deserves better?" Never had anyone in that room saw her so vulnerable.

"Don't you think you should let Shin decide that? And if he still picks you, and you still think like that, shouldn't you just improve yourself then? That is what Shin deserves, I think." Noda answered, as Minami smile in agreement. Kumiko looked at the people who witnessed her relationship with Shin. "Was it just that easy? Was I only hurting him for nothing?"

"No, out of all the people who would understand what you're going through it would be Shin, you should just be honest with him." Minami finally talked.

"I think now's the time for you to return the favor and be the one to chase Shin. He would probably be still close-" before Fujiwara could finish Kumiko had already bolted.

"Oi, Kumiko." She almost tripped at the stairs when she realized that she had ran past Shin. "Shin!" Kumiko walked towards him.

"I- I was just looking for Kuma-" Kumiko cut him off by tiptoing to kiss him in the lips. "I'm sorry, Shin. I don't want you to find another woman. I was just scared that I was taking advantage of you, that I was being a hindrance, but all this time I was just insecure and scared. But if you already found another I will accept it." Shin looked at the crying Kumiko. "I did not break up with you because I wanted and planned to find someone else. I did that because I thought it is actually what you wanted. That you still saw me as your student and nothing more." He gently cupped her face and wiped away the tears.

"No. I never wanted that. From now on I am going to work hard to be a better me. So please, take me back?" Kumiko stared at Shin's dark eyes.

"Stupid, men are the ones supposed to talk like that." He smiled widely and pulled her once again for a kiss.

People's expectations never bothered Shin, unless they mattered. Like today, facing another Kumichou of a yakuza clan who considers the Kuroda clan as a rival, with a slight wrong move a clan war could ensue. And as part of Shin's training as the next head, now that Kumiko and him are married, he was sent there together with Kyou-san.

"Is this skinny ass the next Kumichou of your clan?" With one look at Shin the buffoon laughed. "Watch your tongue, Monkey. This is the Young Master Red Lion." Kyou-san interfered with his laugh through gritted teeth.

"Ah, yes yes. The Young Master Red Lion." He guffawed once more but Shin doesn't even flinch.

"The one who's under his wife's skirt! Tending to house problems, you're basically a glorified house-husband!" Kyou-san's katana clicked as he gripped it tighter.

"And so?" Shin asked with a raised brow.

"Huh?"

"Kumiko's working hard as a teacher and is doing a great job with it, even your asshole of a son, who is in fact her student has become a better person than he was under your care. If training as the next head is considered as a househusband, then I am one. And hopefully I am doing at least an adequate job." Shin said seriously. "Oh of course you're doing a great job, Shin." Kyou-san, Shin, Monkey Kumichou and his bodyguards were all startled as they saw Kumiko wearing her battle kimono, who is heavily pregnant, marching teary eyed (mostly due to hormones) to her husband. Shin of course stood up and met his wife halfway, lightly blushing as she pecked his cheeks.

"Oh, please continue. I am just here as a moral support. And seeing as you have five bodyguards with you it is fair that my husband has at least two chaperone." Kumiko stared at the Kumichou challengingly, and even with her big belly she is every bit intimidating as she was before. Shin smirked proudly, not even bit embarassed that his wife is acting as his protector even holding her hand and kissing it, which surprised the Monkey-Kumichou even more. Not that Shin would allow his pregnant wife to actually fight, he did not train on how to fight while attending Todai for nothing.

"If we are done talking about my life, here are the properties of yours that are now owned by our family. As the family's lawyer I have ensured it was obtained legally. I won't bore you with details, so to just simplify everything, 90% of your family's properties are now owned by us. After you have tried to widen your territory, you have stretched your clan thin both in morality and physically that it was too easy to convince them. The 10% remaining is your private property though in a day or two you will recieve irresistible offer, from me of course. This meeting is just to inform you as your former people are now too happy with the new management to deal with you." Shin thoroughly enjoyed the dumstruck face of the man who was just insulting him minutes ago. And Kumiko was too proud and awed by Shin to even notice as the man dropped to his knees.

With the same grace and fierceness of the Kumichou of the Kuroda clan, Shin stood up and helped Kumiko stand. "P-please have pity, please spare us." Shin and Kumiko looked down at the pleading man.

"Kumichou-san, as a househusband I have lot's of things to do. Not only do I have to clean and do the laundry, I also have to cook for my hardworking wife. And as you can see it is nearly time for dinner. I have no time for pity, especially for those who take advantage of people. So see you when I claim those 10% of yours." With Shin's arm around Kumiko's waist they walked out of the room with their heads held up high while Kyou-san followed behind them teary eyed as the remaining people of the yakuza clan bowed to the future Kumichou of the Kuroda clan.

I absolutely love Kahoko and Hajime they're so adorable and supportive of each other making me want to have that kind of relationship ❤❤❤❤

I love how everyone has flaws, but they realized it and chose to become a better person as the series continued.

Every character in that series is a gem (mostly because Kahoko and Hajime helped them) EXCEPT for her evil mom. I hate her so f*cking much. As a mom myself, watching her overprotect her kid was just the worst, the mom made sure that Kahoko would not be able to live without her. I personally think that she does not love her daughter, she just love the fact that she can control every aspect of her daughter's left even her clothes. She's a manipulative b*tch who doesn't love anyone but herself. Even her husband was tamed, manipulated into saying yes to whatever she says. Even when the husband expressed his frustrations she nitpicked his words and chose to only hear that SHE was not appreciated enough as a housewife. Like WTF?! dude works from morning to night, waits in line for hours just for their dessert and he couldn't even use a glass that they bought with his money?! And he couldn't even talk to his own daughter because that evil woman manipulated her daughter into ignoring her own dad???!! I'm not saying that the dad's right for not appreciating what the mom's doing but she doesn't appreciate him too so...

When Kahoko was starting to realize that there was life outside their home, the evil b*tch forced her to cut ties with Hajime. It's like a cult really. And when Kahoko declared that she want to be more independent, the mom actually had the audacity to get mad and force her daughter to learn on her own, when she could have done that gradually when Kahoko was young not go cold turkey when she's an adult and probably useless because that bish babied her too much.

And just when I thought the mom's finally getting better, like in the last episode when she finally brought her ass to her daughter's wedding and helped and everything (though it just honestly felt like she wanted to control her daughter one last time) she returned back to her old bitchy self when she said to her husband that they should get divorced. LIKE B*TCH after living such a luxurious life with your daughter you want to break up with the dude who is so in love with her and supported her dumbassery and cult-like living, and helped with her crazy extended family problems she wants to end their f*cking marriage.

This ended up as a rant, but tbh, I have experience that feeling when someone manipulates you into thinking that "you can't do that, let me do that for you" until every little thing you try makes you think that you can't actually do it s actually traumatizing. I understand Kahoko, and how she still loves her mom after all that. But it's just too f*cked up you know? That kind of attitude to your own daughter is not love. You just want someone to manipulate and to have control over. It's too scary.

CHAPTER 2: The Intimacy of calling your name

Shin was her beloved student first, so he was literally labeled as that and nothing more. He had always been "Sawada" her reliable student despite him being one of the most rebellious, coming to school late and the one who talks back or sometime ignores her without any fear.

The first time Shin called her Yankumi made her almost cry from happiness because finally she's accepted by Shin as his teacher. Who would have thought that a cold looking student like him who ignores their teacher everyday would finally accept her because she helped his friends. After he called her Yankumi, she set her next goal into making her stoic and cold student smile more openly. Not knowing that she already makes him smile just by being her normal gullible, naive, and stupid self (again not because Shin thinks she's just plain adorable, definitely not that). Eventually Shin smiled more and more and Kumiko is so proud of that, specially when he smiled oh-so beautifully wide when they celebrated his return from almost being expelled.

Kumiko had heard her students call her different types of Yankumi. Whether teasing, whenever they tell her to be more sexy or at least be more feminine. Or in awe, when they see her rushing towards them when they're in trouble or when she kicks someone ass. Or in annoyance, whenever she puts them up on something they don't want to do which they eventually realize that they actually do like it.

But never reprimanding, only Shin. It was when Kumiko was tasked with taking care of Yuta, Nurse Kawashima's son. Shin, bless his soul, offered his help with the kid, because Yuta is adorable, not that Shin cared about Kumiko who was panicking because she can deal with a bunch of teenage delinquents but not cute kids. And of course because Shin knew they need at least one normal (Shin? Normal?) person in the Oedo clan's house. The poor kid did not know how to appreciate the food given to him by others, which of course made Tetsu and Minoru release their yakuza attitude on the kid. Surprising the Kumichou, grandfather of Kumiko, Shin took control of the situation and reprimanded the two with just their name. And he has enough power in his soft voice to stop the two. What was even more surprising for everyone, was when Kumiko was the one who was pissed off at the kid, with just one "Yankumi." from Shin, she stopped. The oujou's wrath that is feared by everyone was stopped with a soft reprimanding call of her nickname. Maybe they stopped because Yuta is just a kid, and Shin's voice was only a wake up call, but Kumiko knew that her heart skipped a beat (may be from surprise or something else) when he called her. Sawada Shin would definitely make a good Kumichou, Kumiko thought fleetingly before focusing back on Yuta.

There's also that one time, that Kumiko hates the most, when Shin shouted her name in desperation as she practically ran away from them after resigning when the school found out about her family. Knowing that it was the most painful for Shin as he had visited her last night and she had to lie to his face that she would not be forced to resign because of what they did. And it hurt her heart so bad when she heard them call her Yankumi, the nickname that they gave her on her first week to tease her.

"Yamaguchi."

"HAI!" She said too politely, turning around from erasing the blackboard withher face a mess from tears and chalk, expecting someone very important because she was called by her last name and not Yankumi, and not even Yamaguchi-sensei. "Oh, it's just you Sawada. I thought-" her eyes comically teared up again, fearing the worst. "Is it because it's the day of graduation that you don't even want to call me Yankumi or sensei anymore?" The chalk that was flying everywhere when she erased the 'THANK YOU, YANKUMI' from the board created tear marks as she ugly cry once again.

"Stupid." Shin stiffled a laugh at his miserable former teacher. He grabbed a handkerchief from his pocket and came close to Kumiko, close enough so that he could wipe her face. "You're not my teacher anymore, you know."

"What do you mean, I will always be your teacher! Even if-" "By the way I'm accepted at Tokyo university." Kumiko's passionate speech was halted by her surprise. "That's amazing, Sawada!"

"I'm going to be a yakuza lawyer." Kumiko nodded eagerly, so engrossed with the fact that Shin was talking more about his plans that she missed some words. "I have already discussed it with Kumichou-san. He agreed to be make me help about making the Oedo clan more legal." He finished wiping her tears and all the chalk from her face, and was now only waiting for his words to sink in. "Kumichou?? Why Oji-san?"

"Because I am in love with his grand daughter, Yamaguchi. I have to discuss with him the possibilities with him, whatever may happen."

"Confessing to Oji-san first, that's risky. But that is such a manly trait! I can't believe you matured so much Sawada." She grinned happily and ruffled his hair. Seriously this woman could go through so much emotions in under 10 minutes. Shin let her mess up his hair. He was genuinely scared of her reaction. Then when she suddenly realized what he just said, she accidentally grabbed his hair and pulled it. "Finally realized it, huh?" Shin visibly winced at the strength of Kumiko. As if in a trance, she could only blink at him staring at his deep dark eyes. Shin took the opportunity to shorten up their distance, despite the grip on his hair, their lips a mere breath apart. "What a face your making." Shin smirked, his lips brushing against hers as he speaks. A loud smack filled the silent room. Shin clutching his stomach while Kumiko holds her blushing cheeks. "Don't play with your teacher like that!" She shouted before pausing for a second to touch her lips. "I'm not playing with you. I really am in love with you, Yamaguchi." Shin said while leaning on his chair, still feeling the effects of Kumiko's punch. "You should respect your teacher!" Shin raised an eyebrow at her. Finally standing up to move closer to her.

"But I graduated today. You're not my teacher anymore, remember?"

"That- that doesn't mean you can joke about it like that!" Kumiko pushed him back to his seat and stomped out of the room, face red. "At least it was not a no." Shin sighed, chuckling as je remembered her funny red face.

Shin was about to get worried when he hadn't heard from her a few days later. But luckily, Kyou-san invited him to their home for an official Kuroda clan event. To say that seeing Kumiko blush when he saw him and a nudge from Kyou-san after saying that it was their Ojou's idea to call him for help, eased his mind was an understatement.

"Shall we eat before going home?" Kumiko asked after dealing with the gang that was scaring the businesses that was dealt by Kuroda clan. Which actually went without violence because Shin was there, after hearing what laws they would have to face, which really impressed Kumiko because she had no idea how prepared Shin was, the gangsters ran away. "Yeah sure. Kuma's restaurant is just around the corner." Kuma greeted them happily and fixed them two bowls of ramen. "You guys just finished dealing with those punkasses?"

"Yeah, Sawada really showed them. You should've seen him he was reciting all those laws like a pro." It was Shin's turn to blush as Kumiko complited him. "Yamaguchi, I'm nearly finished with law school, I'm supposed to know those. Besides, it's all worth it because we're now going on a date." Kuma's eyes widened when he saw Kumiko blush and shoved food in her mouth, but before he could react, his wife Ami-chan had already called him.

"Kumiko, Call me Shin." Shin said sternly, as his fiance stares at him intently ignoring her own blush when he called her in her first name. "Sawada. Not this again." She turned around and picked invisible dirt from her kimono. "We're literally getting married in a few minutes. You can't keep calling me Sawada when you're going to be Sawada Kumiko soon." Shin wore the final layer of his kimono and walked in front of Kumiko.

"You know, I'm wearing fundoshi underneath." Shin felt heat on his cheeks as he admitted. "But I won't show it to you." The tranced face of Kumiko disappeared as soon as he added. "What?! Why?! Isn't it for our wedding night?!" It was very rare for Shin to sulk and pout but this time, he actually did. "You won't even call me Shin." He huffed. Kumiko could only blink in surprise. This man, the one her family respectfully called Young Master Red Lion, pouts in front of his future wife, but she could only think about how cute he looks and how young he is despite being more mature than his age.

When it comes to jpop, I have only listened to KAT-TUN, and that was what, 12 yrs ago? (Holy fuck I'm old). Anyways. I found out about Official Hige Dandism, in 2020, when they sang the outro song of Koitsudu/An incurable case of love, "I Love" which is just AMAZINGG. Together with the jdrama I fell in love with the characters.

And now I have been listening to them nonstop. They give me serious butterflies, like I'm having my first love or somethinggg. I am actually afraid to look at the translated lyrics because, based on memes, jap songs are famous for being upbeat but if you read the lyrics it's actually depressing. Hopefully that is not the case for Offcial Hige Dandism???

I Hear You

It was a rare morning where Kairi was the first one to get up. Usually Nanase gets up first and cook even though Kairi had told her many times to not to as they could get breakfast in the hospital. Even before they were married Nanase had already been acting like a devoted wife, now it was a great opportunity for Kairi to take care of her, seeing that Nanase is tired from their activity last night.

Kairi quickly got into work, making some pancakes that Nanase had been planning to cook for their breakfast. Just as he was about to finish cooking the last one, he felt someone wrap their arms around him and a small peck on his back. He couldn't help but smile at his wife's action, knowing that she was too small to reach his neck which was obviously her target.

"Kairi." Nanase whined after getting no response from Kairi. Kairi continued to ignore her, finishing up the meal that he was preparing. Nanase's arms was loosening when he turned around and captured Nanase's lips into a deep kiss. He could feel her legs turn jelly as he gripped her waist pulling her even closer. This was the best part of his morning, the warmth that Nanase brings to his life was something that he was always grateful for.

"Morning." He mumbled on her lips before kissing her again. "Good morning." She answered, a smile crept up to her lips as her husband doesn't seem that he was stopping from pecking her lips. "What's with you today, Kairi?" His heart fluttered as he heard his name again from her, which was something that Nanase recently done after calling him sensei ever since they met. "Come on, let's eat. I made pancakes." He was just overflowing with love and wanted to show her but he wasn't going to tell her that. She would probably become so hyper with happiness again if he told her.

Nanase couldn't help but stare at her husband as they eat. The man may seem cold and uncaring at first but nowadays he was smiling more and more. He couldn't even keep his hands off her both literally and figuratively if you know what I mean. Even now his feet was gently tapping hers as they eat, she found it adorable though he would probably call her stupid again if she mentioned that.

Nanase yawned for the nth time that morning, which was unusual for the warrior who was always energetic so it was evident to the other staff. "Nanase, are you okay?" Nurse Negishi asked as Nanase was in mid yawn. "Ah! Yes of course! I just didn't sleep well last night." Nanase blushed as she remembered what really happened last night. "Eh? Does it mean that you and the devil..." Nurse Ishihara trailed. "Impossible! You know the devil. He would probably rather read than do that!" Nurse Numazu's loud voice boomed through the nurse station.

Nurse Negishi could just stifle her laugh as behind Nurse Numazu was the said devil. "If you are all finished gossiping about my and Nanase's life at home can I please have the chart of the new patient in our ward? And Nanase, you forgot to cover the hickey on your neck." The last part was supposedly a whisper but with the defeaning silence that occured when his presence was felt made it seem louder than it was supposed to be.

"Kairi!" Nanase shouted in embarassment as she covered her neck where the hickey is. All the nurses gasped at what Nanase said, the warrior always called him Sensei and it was the first time they heard her call him that, and of course because now covered hickey. Nanase turned even more red as she realized what she had said. Kairi only chuckled and pecked Nanase's cheeks. "Now about that chart?" He asked once again.

Before anyone actually had the chance to react to the surprising turn of events Nanase suddenly swayed and was fortunately catched by Kairi. Kairi shouting her name was the last thing Nanase heard before she fainted completely.

"You should really stop worrying me, Nanase." Kairi grumbled through Nanase's palm, holding at his face. He could still feel how his heart stopped when he saw her faint. He had no idea what happened, did he tease her too much? But he was really happy to hear her call him his name outside their home after 2 months of marriage. It wasn't easy doing that as Nanase is really a professional nurse and preferred to call him Sensei in front of everyone. But if she had to call him sensei for the rest of their life to stop her from fainting then so be it.

"Kairi?" His trail of thoughts was interrupted with a soft voice. "I'm here." He answered as he placed a soft kiss on the inside of her wrist. There she was again giving him her cute smile as if nothing happened. "We must've done it too much last night." She joked, gently caressing Kairi's face in attempt to ease the frown and worry etched on his face. "If that's the reason then we won't do it anymore." He answered seriously which stopped Nanase. "Eh???"

"Oh good you're awake." A doctor entered, making Kairi stand up and Nanase sit up. "I'm Doctor Misao, I'm an ob-gyne. You two should probably need to sit and relax for this one." Kairi and Nanase unconsciously reached for each other's hand. "What seems to be the problem, sensei?" Kairi asked, trying to stop his voice from trembling. He needs to be strong no matter what, even though he was really scared. "There isn't any problem. In fact, you two are expecting! Congratulations, Mrs. Tendo is 2 months pregnant!" Kairi felt his heart stop again, but this time he felt it restart and beat faster. Nanase couldn't help but gasp at the news. They haven't actually planned for a kid yet but her heart felt full of love for the baby that was growing inside of her. "Knowing that you two work here, I won't bore you with medical details. Let's just schedule your check up. I'm sure you two want some privacy." Doctor Misao said.

After a few short minutes, Doctor Misao already left. Silence filled the private room that they occupied. Nanase was so happy, a baby, she couldn't believe it. A childish crush eventually turned into love, turned into the most beautiful thing that happened to her after Kairi. She didn't even know that she was patting her lower tummy as she smiled until she heard a sob. Kairi was sitting with his head bowed. He stiffled his sobs with a hand as his other hand reached out to Nanase's. "Kairi." She softly called. "I'm so happy. You're okay, and I'm going to be a dad." Nanase brought his hands to her lips. "I know. I'm happy too." She muttered, smiling at his vulnerability, it wasn't that she was enjoying it. She was just glad that he trusted and loved her enough to rely on her. "What's wrong? Why are you crying?" She asked. He was silent fora few moment. Gathering his thoughts on how to say how he really felt. "I'm relieved that you're okay. And I'm scared." Nanase held his face and tilted it to make him look at her. "Scared of what?"

He took a deep breath. As if scared to even say it. "Pregnancy can have a lot of complications. I am scared for you and our baby. And not only that. I'm scared that I may not be a good father. After what happened to Minori, I have a hard time expressing how I feel. I am not good at handling my emotions. I'm already having a hard time believing that I deserve you, I feel like I haven't done enough to prove that I deserve our baby." His eyes were filled with tears. He was nervous and scared. The last time that he had been this open Nanase was when she had an accident. He hated that he had to wait for something big to happen to tell her how he really felt.

"Stupid." Nanase mumbled, surprising Kairi. She was glaring at him with teary eyes and if this wasn't such a serious moment he would have pinched her cheeks for being so cute. "I didn't choose you because of that. I knew your flaws and I embraced them. I know that you barely talk about your feelings but when you do, you do it in the gentlest way, and you pour your heart out. I know that eventually you would be able to talk with me freely. Remember when you told me that my smile was gross? And when I had the accident you told me I had the cutest smile. And how would you be a bad father when you're with your patient you're the kindest person ever. And even when I fail at being a good housewife you're there comforting me, not minding the ruined dinner or your favorite shirt that I ruined. You may not voice out your feelings a lot but you show it through your actions and that is something that a good father posesses." Kairi was surprised by how good his wife was in dealing with him. He is an excellent doctor and he knows that, but despite that, he also has insecurities. But his wife, his Nanase, eased his worries while glaring at him.

"And also about the pregnancy, that's why we have monthly check ups. And whatever problem may arise, we can deal with it. We will deal with it because we're together. I am here." He couldn't help but smile. "I hear you." He said and kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. "I am glad though. That you talked to me about it." Nanase felt him chuckle, she slapped his chest in response. "You always did enjoy seeing me like this." He smoothed out her hair, enjoying their closeness. "I love it when you talk to me. About work, about random things, or even about something painful. I love that you can tell me anything. But that doesn't mean that I enjoy it, I am in pain when you're in pain." Kairi could hear the pout on her words. He pulled back from the hug and kissed her deeply. "I love you, Nanase and our baby" Kairi gently placed his hand on her flat tummy. "A baby, Kairi. We're going to have a baby!" Nanase squealed, the fact that they are going to have a baby is finally sinking in. Kairi's smile widened even more as his wife rambled on.

The next morning, Kairi and Nanase arrived at the nurse station just before their morning meeting. "Tendo sensei? I thought it was your day off today." Nurse Numazu asked. "Oh, I completely forgot. Why are you here?" Nanase who was used to walking to work with Kairi was also confused. "I am not here today as a doctor. I am here as Nanase's husband." Kairi answered smiling at his confused wife. "Please take care of Nanase." He said before bowing deeply, Nanase not knowing what was happening also bowed down. "Nanase is 2 months pregnant. I am not asking for special care towards her because I know she would hate being treated specially as she is very dedicated to her work. All I am asking is that, to look after her when I am not here." Kairi was obviously awkward, talking about a personal matter in front of his co-workers was something he was not used to. "Eh???? Nanase you're pregnant?!" Nurse Numazu exclaimed. "Congratulations Nanase and Tendo-sensei!" Sakai hugged Nanase who was frozen in surprise. Finally coming out of her shock Nanase hugged Sakai back and happily said "I am pregnant!!!" Making the nurse station filled with excited shouts and cheers.

"Tendo-sensei, 2 months eh? You guys have been married for only a month and Nanase has just been back for 2 months. I didn't know you had it in you." Nurse Numazu teased Kairi, and Nanase who heard it laughed. "Even before I left Kairi had it in him. Of course after a year of not meeting-" Nanase stopped talking after realising what she just had said, slowly facing Kairi who was looking at her with a raised eyebrow and crossed arms. "You just dug your own grave." He muttered as everyone was now looking at Nanase with wide curious eyes. "I didn't mean to." She whined. Kairi just laughed and kissed her lips. "I'm going home to do the laundry. You deal with them."

As 2022 approaches and so does the 20th anniversary of Gokusen TV series 🥳🥳 after rewatching and reading tons of fanfics accross different platforms I decided to make one too to celebrate the fact that this gem is now 2 decades old. In this story, I have not included gokusen 2 & 3 because I have not rewatched it and because this story is mainly ShinKumi, but some parts of the manga will (hopefully) be included in this (like the part that Sawada did not go to africa but instead stayed and became a lawyer).

CHAPTER 1: The intimacy of his gaze

Kumiko have no idea when or how she fell in love with Sawada Shin. Her student, well now former student. She knew how she came to like Shinohara-san because he was handsome and he helped her the first time they met and the star-crossed lovers idea of her being a yakuza princess and him being a detective had excited her so much that whenever she sees him made her feel giddy inside. But with Shin it was all too different.

On the first day they met, Shin was the only one who met her eyes with such intense stare that he caught her interest though not in a romantic way as she was her student. It was because he looked at her with disappointment, anger, and nonchalance which made her wonder what made him act like that. Same for Shin he knew that somehow this teacher was different. Whether good or not he eventually knew as time passes. He looked at her warily, expecting her to eventually get tired of them and become the predictable adult who does not give a shit about them, but then he saw how passionate she is. Funny how passionate means her punching Kuma because he stole money from the vice principal (well technically only because the vice principal deserve it), and her threatening a bunch of students because they ganged up on Shin and Minami.

Sometimes she even wore that stupid 'fashionable' clothes, and he couldn't help but give in and say that she looked fine because she obviously wanted to help, definitely not because she looked really cute being proud of what she was wearing. It was because of her effort and not how cute her stupid antics are.

This all went above Kumiko's head that time. How Shin always gives her what she wants, she just got used to it, being spoiled by Shin. It was a bit funny, how his friends got always surprised whenever he lets her get her way, but still nobody had an idea, specially Kumiko, that he does this because he likes her. If everyon would just look at her just like Shin looks at her, they would fall in love with her too, or maybe it was just him.

Kumiko thought that she had gotten used to Shin looking at her, Lord knows how much he stared at her back when he was still his student. Though his wary gaze turned into curious, then into amusement, and then into affection. Kumiko was sure she somehow had fallen in live with Shin because of the way he looks at her. Like he knows her, the real her. Not the Oujou that Tetsu and the others call her, not the Yankumi that her students affectionately call her, and not even the Yamaguchi-sensei that her co-workers and Shinohara-san call her, but her, the Yamaguchi Kumiko a teacher, a family member, a yakuza princess, and of course a woman. He was the one who could predict what she would do before she even knew what she was going to do. And he was the only one who would go to her home to check on her when it was revealed that she's a yakuza princess, know that she would be depressed and would be blaming herself, even if he left early, in order to stop his self from hugging her knowing it wouldn't help her current situation.

Sawada Shin had known all of that and more all because he looked at her. That was what made Kumiko fall in love with him.

"Oh, that was a nice punch! Did you see that Shin? Maybe we should try to learn that move- eh?? You're not even watching! You missed it!" Kumiko got annoyed seeing Shin was just staring at her instead of watching the yakuza movie that she put on. "You do know that this is the 3rd time we watched that this week, right?" Shin gently moved her hair out of her face.

"A-and so?! That doesn't mean you can just stare at me. You have to watch the movie!" Kumiko blushed avoiding Shin's piercing gaze, opting to look at the action shown at the TV. "I'll reverse the banishment." Shin recited same time as the movie. "W-what?" Kumiko frowned still refusing to return Shin's gaze. "I have almost memorized the whole movie after watching one time, I thought you were the one watching it but you don't even know the lines." Shin teased. Kumiko huffed and finally angrily stared back at him, ignoring the butterflies that she feels whenever she looks at those deep brown eyes, which was now looking at her amusedly with a raised brow.

"Watch the movie, not me."

"No. You're more amusing."

"I am here at your apartment to watch a movie not to make you amused." Trying to ignore the way he moved closer to her face was more difficult than she thought.

"Mmhhmm then why don't you just focus on your movie and ignore me?" His nose was now touching hers their lips a breath apart. "I am not ignoring you, don't you know how distracting it is when someone keeps staring at you?" Kumiko tried to prove her point by staring back at him with the same intensity until she was almost crossed eyed but instead of making a point she made him chuckle "What's with your face."

"Don't laugh at m-mpff" Shin cut her off with a kiss that she immediately returned. Her hands grabbing his arms as he held her waist to keep her from lying on the sofa. Knowing how this strong woman, who can defeat gangs even those pipe wielding ones, get weak and melt whenever he kisses her.
