Happy Birthday, Maximilian! 🎂The title is 🐱, so I won't say it.Although it feels a bit sombre to share this on such a joyful occasion as a birthday, I’m afraid I might forget to post it later, so I’m sharing it today.As for why I chose the lily of the valley, I have my own thoughts. I feel that Robespierre is very much like a lily of the valley. The lily of the valley is humble and unassuming; it is neither ostentatious nor harsh, yet it is far from bland. Its fragile life displays a unique resilience—a beauty that can only be discovered upon closer inspection—yet its fragrance draws others’ attention, making one unable to resist drawing near. Lily of the valley is often seen as a harbinger of happiness; surely Robespierre was a figure to whom the people’s hopes were pinned. Robespierre himself was in pursuit of ‘happiness’ (and I too wish him happiness). Lily of the valley also symbolises purity and the dawn of happiness, much like Robespierre’s own ‘incorruptibility’ and his stance as a guardian. Yet the entire lily-of-the-valley plant is poisonous, and highly so. Thus, Robespierre never attained true happiness; even if he did, it would have been fatal. However, the poison does not strike out aggressively; rather, it serves as a form of self-preservation. The lily-of-the-valley often grows in valleys or secluded spots, and Robespierre’s fundamental character was defensive; he did not entrust his trust lightly. He was also a dangerous figure, steadfastly upholding his own principles. Lily of the valley is also mysterious, much like Robespierre, whose true inner self is difficult to penetrate; one can never fully fathom his thoughts.

I still find this translator difficult to use—or is it just that my English isn’t very good?

In China, the red thread symbolises being bound together by fate, whilst in other parts of East Asia, it seems to represent soulmates. I think it’s a beautiful image! Hello, thank you ever so much for your kind words about this piece. It was commissioned by a friend of mine, and upon discussing her vision, she shared that she felt these two flowers perfectly captured the spirit of Carnot and Saint-Just. She was particularly fond of the blue cornflower, which represents hope and symbolises patriotism and liberty, while the red rose embodies courage (in my view). The text behind Carnot and Saint-Just is excerpted from their speeches.English is not my native language, and I have utilised a translation tool. Consequently, there may be instances where the wording is not entirely precise. My apologies for any confusion this may cause.
