Thermidorian propaganda did not slander Robespierre and Saint-Just as gay. (Insert period-accurate terms here.)

Anyone telling you this has no idea what they're talking about.

The idea of Robespierre and Saint-Just being close and having an "intimate" relationship - whatever that might mean - is not Thermidorian propaganda.

Was there homophobic propaganda later? Yes. But the homophobes were simply observing an intimate relationship that already existed. Homophobes didn't invent their relationship. The ship exists because they had a close relationship independently of what homophobes might say. Shippers and homophobes are observing the same phenomenon. Shippers aren't merely using what homophobes said. Besides, modern shippers didn't invent the ship either: their relationship has fascinated countless authors - both academic and fiction writers - for 200 years. There isn't some conspiracy to make it more visible than other ships. It's just that loyalty and principles are hot. ❤️

Choose carefully! The fate of the patrie/Europe/the world depends on it! Do you bind the military minds — the heroe of Fleurus and the organizer of victory? Or will you capture the hearts of the people with words — laconic justice with the pen's eloquence?

One hates being patronized and father figures so badly he gained his fame by condemning to death the father of the kingdom for the very crime of existing! He doesn't have father issues at all!

The other longs to be a father figure to 20-something-yo men as much as he craves a son of his own that he truly desperately needs to call after his favorite poet because he's such a nerd! He doesn't have reverse father issues either at all!

Yes, they're both absolute nerds! And write asinine poetry! And have icy mathematical minds though one is into polisci! And there's probably a lot of other stuff I can't remember right now but I'm sure @aedislumen will!

A cathedral, it needs marble and bricks and careful calculations so that the towers would not fall. And it also needs the idea of heaven; a reason that lasts beyond a single lifetime.

A victory, it needs an army and cannons and cathedral bells melted into copper to forge cannonballs. And it needs something to fight for; a reason greater than death. 

A republic, it is a tower of paper and an army on the march. 

It needs an army that defends a nation and not a ruler; an army of hundreds of thousands drafted in a year; it needs signature after signature, night after night; the brutal necessity of survival; and in the end it brings the kind of victory that is organized, measured in its trajectory and engineered to completion. 

It may take a long time to understand that it needs the ideals too; perhaps one cannot be condemned for focusing on the tower and leaving the (centuries and) skies for others. 

An engineer; a general; an organizer; a survivor. Perhaps a tragedy, unspoken, and a complexity of life that merits both memory and story.
