like jay can be jealous, I think, but matts limerant obsession with him is like security like he has nothing to worry about for sure. hypothetically though i think if there was ever any risk of matt spending his time any other way it would absolutely destroy him because he never even thought that was possible, in comparison to matt, who is constantly worried about being left behind. and that all makes me kick my feet. someone give him 7 or 8 beers

In a way there is this sort of forced confrontation of the fact that these are grown men, in grown men's bodies, choosing to live a life of essentially what amounts to chastity in order to maintain this ridiculous...I don't even know what to call it. innocence? naivety? prepubescent intimacy because it is the only intimacy that allows them to be as close as they want without actually having to cross that physical line - something that feels overwhelming and uncomfortable and dangerous for them. Sexuality literally functions as an existential threat to their domestic life and rejecting sexuality as a reality for them is essentially the only way they can keep living like this. And they both know it! There's a reason the only woman shown in a remotely sexual light at all appears when Jay believes he is partying with someone other than Matt. But still, in the end, he runs back home to Matt like he always does, believes he's fast asleep in their bunk beds, walks into the soft morning light of their home to share everything with him. I think the tension between the brute physicality of desire and the transcendent intimacy of their relationship with each other is so interesting but also just so incredibly painful. sometimes it's hard for me to even think about it
