Walk with God
This morning in my quiet time I read through a few chapters in Genesis and for some reason the Lord highlighted that tiny phrase to me over everything else I read. I started thinking about the men who were described to have walked with God. Enoch walked with God and “then he was no more, because God took him away… “ I wonder what his wife thought? “Where’s old Enoch? Late for dinner again!” Or what about Adam in the Garden of Eden? I guess it never explicitly said that he “walked with God” but I imagine him doing just that. After the serpent tempts the couple into eating of the fruit it says “they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day...” They recognized the sound of His steps compared to all the other creatures God had made. So what does it mean to “walk with God”? What did it mean to Enoch and Adam, or Noah? Did they actually go on walks with God? If so, what did they talk about? Did God joke with Adam about what his “helper” might look like, pointing to an emperor penguin waddling by. Did they laugh together? Cry together? What kind of things did God ask them? What kind of things did they ask God? It seems to me that they had quite the relationship together. So what about you? When was the last time you walked with God? I mean really went for a walk with Him. We can all pray and talk with God in the quiet seclusion of our homes, but today or maybe tomorrow, why not ask God if He wants to go on a walk with you? I bet He’ll say yes!
"I am not sure exactly what heaven will be like, but I know that when we die and it comes time for God to judge us, he will not ask, 'How many good things have you done in your life?' rather he will ask, 'How much love did you put into what you did?"
Mother Teresa
New Year
2014,
Thank you, for the love we received and the hearts we touched. Thank you for the tears that have made us stronger, the laughter that has made us deeper, the people who have made us truer versions of ourselves, and the glimpses of God in the monomental and mundane alike.
2015 … May you be wild and wonderful in the very best of ways, filled with the kinds of stories only God can write.

Ready for a challenging quote? "Christianity is not about building an absolutely secure little niche in the world where you can live with your perfect little wife and your perfect little children in your beautiful little house where you have no gays or minority groups anywhere near you. Christianity is about learning to love like Jesus loved and Jesus loved the poor and Jesus loved the broken... This, I know, will go against the teachings of all the popular evangelical preachers. But they're wrong. They are not bad, they're just wrong."
Rich Mullins
“I’ll Be Praying For You.”
Don’t get me wrong: Prayer is vitally important. That said, the reality is that too many times Christians use this phrase as a general blanket statement to let someone know we care, but only in a passing, surface level way. It can become almost routine to throw out the prayer line whenever someone shares a concern. Sometimes we follow through on it, often we don’t.
Perhaps instead of just letting someone know we’ll pray for them, we should offer up other practical ways to serve them in love. Are they sick? Maybe they need a warm meal. Just got laid off? Maybe some extra cash to pay some bills. New mom overwhelmed with a baby? Offer to help do their laundry or clean their house.
If you do tell someone we’ll pray for them, be intentional. Ask them what specifically you can pray for them about. Write it down so you’ll remember. Call or text them to check in. Let’s not brush of the hurts of others with an empty promise to pray that we’ll likely forget.

The most dangerous risk of all- The risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet that you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later

This is the center of the gospel - this is what the Garden of Gethsemane and Good Friday are all about - that God has done astonishing and costly things to draw us near. He has sent his Son to suffer and to die so that through him we might draw near. It's all so that we might draw near. And all of this is for our joy and for his glory.
John Piper

Unanswered Prayer - Book of Job
If we go right back to the earliest book of the Bible, we find that at the conclusion to Job's litany of agonizing experiences, God finally appeared and revealed His power. God rolls back the clouds to unveil an awesome vision that, far from diminishing Job's expectations of His power renders him speechless. 'Where were you," God rumbles, 'when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know ... who laid its cornerstone - while the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy? (Job 38:4-7).
God's answer to Job's cry of 'Why?' is simply, 'Look at Me' (see Job 38-41). 'My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you,' cries Job in awe, as if his sufferings have simply evaporated (42:5). The book of Job is therefore both the most frustrating and enlightening treatment of unanswered prayer in the Bible, because God's solution to so much misery is merely and ultimately to reveal his greatness.
The book, we discover, is not so much about why bad things happen to good people as it is about who God is and how - when faced with the gross unfairness of life - we are to respond. It is a message that defies the cheap comfort of easy explanations but leaves us in no doubt about God's power. - Pete Greig
Being a Christan is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God's will.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer
I can't brag about my love for God because I fail him daily. But I can brag about his love for me because it never fails.
