β Imaging technologies amplify (also filter) our imaging powers, we must surely note another kind of power: the power to incite others to imagine. Some people have such powers, while others lack them. .... We have to realize that picture-making practices are technologies for amplified imaging, among which photo-depictive technologies take their place. Still, they do have specific characteristics. As marked surfaces, whether permanent or transient (on screens), photographs are physical entities. As depictions, prescribers and enticers of our imaginations, they are functional objects.Β β

The definition: Β images that contain an abstract symbolic shape that can be more or less interpreted as aΒ βhidden letterβ.Β
Based upon my personal experiences in exchangingΒ βhidden letterβ photographs on a social media platform (Same). My thesis project wants to amplify that concept and go more in depth. [Same is a Chinese social media in which users, orΒ βsamers,β share their same interests and hobbies.
Photography is a common behavior in modern society.Β βHidden letterβ photographs utilize common photographic principals; the distinguishing factor is thatΒ βhidden letterβ photographs utilize a distinct style of visual perception that is not as obvious in more typical photographs. The key point is that by showing this project to others, they can realize that they have the visual potential to see things in new, unorthodox ways.
This project attempts to compare a humanβs visual responses based on the presence and absence of access to extracted and amplified alphabetical shapes from photographs to explore a personβs perception and preference of photographs.
