Silhouettes | Jethro & Robbie
Robbie detested Capitol parties with a fiery passion. He hated everything about it. The overflowing food, the drinks, the overheated, sweaty and drunk people, the fact that everybody only vanished into the bathrooms to throw up and keep eating and drinking, and that he had to pretend he enjoyed every single second of it.
Of course he knew he had to deal with this though - it was just one of the many disadvantages of winning the games and being a mentor. He was expected to attend the parties he was invited to, and he knew they were the best chance at getting sponsors for his tributes. The best and only chance. That was the only reason why he ever survived them, and he knew tonight he would concentrate on nothing but the fact that he had to find somebody to keep Tempest and Sebastian alive. Besides, he had survived sixteen years of this craziness. He’d surely survive another one.
He inhaled a deep breath to calm himself down as he stared at the big doors, standing white open to let everybody important and known inside - it was a blur of colours, hurtful for the eyes. Maybe the horror and hilarity of it all, such an awful mixture, was what really got him through all of this, he thought to himself as he adjusted the jacket of his suit - he had to admit it was one of the prettiest he had ever worn, a dark grey one with shimmering leather arms - and made his way through the entrance.
From one second of the next the rather quiet Capitol night turned into a big eruption of colours, sounds, and smells. He could feel the bass of the loud tunes vibrate in his chest, and could smell the mixture of fresh food, slight sweat and too much perfume. Perfect. Clenching his jaw, he inhaled another deep breath before he put his best smile onto his face, not one second too late as he suddenly found himself faced by a small group of women who batted their eyelashes and pulled their dresses down. Let the Games begin, he thought ironically to himself as their chattering voices started to drown him.
Capitol parties. Deplorable. In retrospect they were divine, but when you were a Peacekeeper responsible for the guests safety, the good time seemed to dwindle. Jethro had been there from the start, surveying the area and giving orders. There were drunks every which way and women to ogle at a man in uniform. He dealt no interest their way, and wished for none in return. He stood beside the party’s main entrance, peering clearly through the visor of his helm. If his face was available to the public eye, they’d be able to see just how entertained Jethro truly was. Capitol parties- Jethro knew- rarely ended at midnight. By dawn some would shuffle out, and the rest would be escorted. Passed out or not, the room would be cleared, and he’d be assigned to yet another building that held another room with yet another horrific group to babysit. Well, Jethro only ever wanted to ‘babysit’ one person, and he’d just arrived.
As always, the mentor held what Jethro had decided to be a godly complexion. If anyone else in the room would agree, he knew it’d be every woman within Robin’s vicinity. He was too handsome for his own good, and the attention he received was always enough to make Jethro drown in envy. Overprotective? Perhaps so. It was difficult not to be when your relationship happened to be punishable by death. Snow never missed a chance for an execution. Jethro himself had carried out a number of them personally. When he was around, he liked to consider Robbie untouchable. Except, of course, by him. In charge of that night’s security had a plus side after all.
Peeling his eyes off Robbie for even a millisecond was a challenge, but necessary if Jethro planned to leave his post. There were plenty soldiers under his command that he could place at his station, and it didn’t take more than a glance Robbie’s way to tempt him. Raising a hand he motioned toward a recruit across the room and hardly waited for a sign of recognition before pushing from the wall. The sweat-filled sea parted quite easily as he walked, most likely not finding it in their interest to challenge one with a gun. He couldn’t blame them for being fearful. As of late, several Peacekeepers had resorted to the weapon’s use. Panem was growing restless, and he was a soldier in its vengeful wake.
As always Robbie was well dressed for his attendance. Catching the eye of Sponsors was never an issue for him. His tributes had always at least gotten one, even if they had nothing to offer. This year though, District 10 seemed to look rather promising. Before long Jethro was planted directly behind the man, and was grateful that his helmet his wandering eyes. “Sir,” the Peacekeeper began, voice disrupted by the helmet’s mic, “you need to come with me.” And stay with me while you’re at it. Whether Robbie would realize it was him or not, he’d be taking a short trip from the premises.

Rejecting Capitol women really isn't my favourite thing to do.
They can’t seem to understand the word 'no'.
I’ll reject them for you.
I don’t share your ass with anyone.
Sleep would really be nice now.
Stop being so whiny. That’s not true.
But Robin, I'd never lie.
Sleep would really be nice now.
But hey, some training is just as exhausting.
I believe I did the majority of the training last night.
Bad habits.
Why would I be quiet now?
I don’t really make a difference between smoking and drinking, you know. Even if I’m glad you’re not drinking anymore, I don’t think it’s better if you smoke.
To let me distract you.
It's only once in awhile at work, I assure you.

Bad habits.
It is not your choice if you don’t want to sleep alone.
Really? I can’t think of one right now.
Not fair, Robin. Just be quiet for a minute.
How about those drinking days?
Bad habits.
You’re smoking?
It's distracting.
Bad habits.
I pick up a cigarette every day. Several times.
Well, I don't plan on having several a day.
Bad habits.
You’re only going to keep it if it’s empty. You’re not going to cheat here, Jethro.
I do worry about that. You can’t make me stop, not after everything I’ve seen.
I'm keeping it either way, it's my choice Robin.
Maybe not, but I could have a worse habit than this.
Bad habits.
Fine, you can have it without lighting it. And here I was thinking I’m distraction enough.
Not when it’s about your health and how long you’ll stay with me on this planet.
You already know you are, but I'm keeping the lighter.
It's just a cigarette or two. I'll be here, don't worry about that so much.

Bad habits.
It’s not good for your body. It’s not good for your health. It can kill you. You stop it.
Otherwise you’ll have to sleep in your own bed until you do. Without me.
Can I have it without lighting it then? It's a nice distraction.
Those terms are a bit harsh, don't you think?
Bad habits.
Seriously?! Stop it. Right now. No drinking, and no smoking either.
Jeesh, Robin, calm down.
I'll be doing one regardless.
