*freedom from craving is the end of all suffering*
Fear is the root of all the darkness we see in the world. Greed. Rape. Terrorism. Hate. Rage. Divisiveness. All of it is based in fear.
We small, scared human beings have created a million fear-based constructs with which to make us feel more secure in the Universe.
But what we don't realize is that love and compassion are the antidote. When we feel connected and loved, fear has less and less of a place to live. Connect. Touch. Love. Reach out. Hear the Other. Offer empathy. Let's change this paradigm!
“
In order to feel compassion for other people, we have to feel compassion for ourselves. In particular, to care about people who are fearful, angry, jealous, overpowered by addictions of all kinds, arrogant, proud, miserly, selfish, mean, you name it—to have compassion and to care for these people means not to run from the pain of finding these things in ourselves.

When Things Fall Apart: Heart Advice for Difficult Times
Yes! Just so much YES!
It's easy to have compassion for those who don't confront our sensibilities. It's much harder to do the same for those who act outside what we find acceptable.
“Your first priority should be to find your own quiet space inside so you can learn more about yourself. This includes getting to know and understand your own suffering. When your practice is solid and you’ve already harvested some of the sweet fruits of getting to know yourself, you can consider ways you can make more room to bring silence, deep looking, understanding, and compassion into your work or community.”
— Thich Nhat Hanh
This couldn't be more true for me.
As the survivor of trauma, my head has been in a state of panic most of my life. Once I went in and healed the panic, it has been a long road if quietly *listening* to myself.
My greatest challenge in life is learning myself, down to my roots. Out of this learning, I'm discovering a rich magic within me.

Yes it is 💕
[From a Non-Violent Communication (NVC) course I’m working on]
It’s so SO vital for us to start realizing the implicit violence in disguising our EVALUATIONS of other people as our FEELINGS!
As human beings, we are wired to empathize and be compassionate. YET, when we go into a conversation where someone else is hiding from being vulnerable by projecting their assumptions on us, it can be very hard not to get defensive.
Even when we’re not using NVC, it’s so much more authentic to be honest when expressing our feelings. We want to own them so we can be seen for them. This allows 1) Others to truly empathize with us so that we can 2) Finally move past what holds us back.
It’s such an HONOR to be able to share this information and skills with the world. I’m so blessed!
You can find more on my offerings here.
“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. It is the source of hope, empathy, accountability, and authenticity. If we want greater clarity in our purpose or deeper and more meaningful spiritual lives, vulnerability is the path.”

The amazing digital art of wata boku
Beautiful...
What a waste... to have spent so many years of my life powering the pointless machine of worry. It's like tying an old engine to the trunk of a tree in the hope that it might become a vehicle that will take you somewhere better than here and now, yet all it really does is chug out smoke and noise, taking you nowhere while polluting the brilliant incandescence of Now.
The Worrier’s Guide to the End of the World, by Torre DeRoche
Thirty-four years of age on my hands, the lines and grooves a map to my history- a history of fear and worry. Psychotherapy and self-help books, extreme adventures and meditation: a history of failed attempts to overcome. It didn't matter how many worries I placed on imagined leaves that I floated down meditation rivers while sitting for hours on end - eyes closed, legs crossed - I still woke every morning braced for the end of the world. All the while, there was another place coexisting behind the constant chatter of obsessive catastrophizing, a place sparkling with Alchemy.

How is it that books are so much more inspirational than television and movies???

Journal comic.
This needs about 100,000 more notes.
Learning to be kind to myself. Learning that by listening deeply to myself, I won't let myself down. It's not kindness that has led me astray in the past, it was disconnection from myself. Deeply listening to myself is not only kind but an essential tool for navigating through the world.
Seriously, the book I'm reading just referenced this exact quote!
