One of my favorite things about #LifeInBrazil is all the #tropical fruit available for #breakfast. I am a big fan of mangoes but goiaba/ guava is right up there too. Even bananas are special in Brazil, the are like a whole different fruit than what we typically see in the supermarket in Colorado. Here there are several varieties and when you find the pequena bananas on street that are like fat fingers and come about 20 to a bunch they are a must buy even if you have your arms full. But to me the real star of breakfast is maracaju or as we know it #passionfruit. And so this adventure begins with a roasty 1554 from #NewBelgium at #DIA. It’ll be the last #Colorado #beer I have for quite awhile. Some of the toughest parts of the trip are over - my big pig of a bag is checked and I made it through security. I’m at the gate with 90 minutes to relax. A return to abnormal here at @wynkoopbrew on their first day reopening for dine-in service. Some things remain unchanged - I’m drinking #MileHiIPA - others are much changed. No barstools was the first thing I noticed and a decided lack of tables in the bar area. Masks must be worn by all staff and by patrons to and from their tables. #Beer is good and the Buffalo Chicken #Wings hit a spot that has been “itching” for 3 months. Nice #music too. The spring #migration of the Sandhill Cranes in Nebraska is one of world’s greatest #wildlife spectacles. Over a half million cranes stop in the #PlatteRiver valley each March. The flyway band runs from near Lewellen to east of Grand Island. The heaviest concentration of cranes is between #Kearney and #GrandIsland with another smaller band west of #NorthPlatte. I witnessed this amazing event last week in preparation to write an article about the cranes. I had seen it before as young boy growing up in Nebraska and 25 years ago when working as the photographer on a writer/photographer team. It was even more spectacular this year. If you haven’t seen it I encourage you to take the time next March to witness the marvelous mystery of #nature in central Nebraska. Note: You might catch them this year if you hurry. I visited the George Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas a could of years ago. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my time there, I would never have expected to enjoy a visit to any presidential library this much. It gave me a new perspective on our 41st President, presidents in general and even politics. While his politics may or may not be your cup of tea he was a decent man, he loved his wife and family and he served his country over a lifetime.
