Calling incest "taboo" when it's a literal form of abuse is not the wording I would use to defend its presence or people's interest in it on a site.
I use the word "taboo" because I only refer to "fiction", as in a taboo topic people write about in fiction. not real-life. fiction.
game of thrones has incest in it (so it is in a way taboo). and it is allowed to exist on a huge platform like hbo, because it's fiction and taboo fiction is NOT a crime.
lolita is taboo, but it's fiction, and it deserves to exist without being banned or censored.
non-con fics are taboo. because while it is vile and a crime in real life, just like incest, in fiction space where no one in real life is harmed, it is not a crime and it's legally allowed to exist and have a platform like ao3.
also no, I am not "defending the portrayal of taboo topics in fiction" even though I do love writing and reading about non-con. I am defending people's rights and freedom to create and consume whatever they want, however they want, including dark and taboo topics. as long as no one in real life is harmed.

alright, i'll be the one to say it. ao3 and tumblr becoming "mainstream" did so much damage to the community and the writers. i have seen loads of videos and posts about:
1. people hating on writers and fics. writing is something we do for free and for fun. if you stumble upon a fanfic that isn't necessarily your cup of tea or you just don't like, scroll. dont read it. literally leave their page. you don't know if this could be the author's first work that they're so excited about, you dont know if the language they're writing in isn't their first language, you dont know that the writer could be a literal teen and loads of other reasons. fanfictions don't HAVE to be perfect. you write what you want to write because we do it for fun and enjoyment and we want to share that to the world. seriously, what is the wrong with that?..
2. x reader consumers getting WAY to entitled. the number of tiktoks i've seen that "i run a strict program when it comes to reading fanfics." girl you aint running shit. this is FAN FICTION you're reading. F A N F I C T I O N. there is no denying that most fanfiction writes are beyond talented but just because you read one fanfic that exceeds your expectations doesn't give you the right to talk down on others that don't. people have their own personal writing style, their way of doing things and you talking shit on that isn't right.
at the end of the day, we are all humans, reading and writing is what we do and what we're meant to do. and for you to talk shit about a person WRITING is so insane. we are humans. not some robots that you can tell what to do so you can consume it.
i've seen so so many authors take down their fanfics and losing all motivation to write because of a hate comment. DONT LIKE DONT READ‼️
and to every author reading this, this community values your work and your contribution. we love u and, please, never let anyone's negative words have an effect on you.
some people really need to learn how to stfu when it comes to fanfic. if you don't like it, click off and move on. especially x reader fics! write your own atp instead of whining and complaining all the damn time, sheesh.

even nazi books should not be banned. people should read them (if they can) so they can learn how harmful it is. you don’t teach people that some things are bad and harmful by hiding these bad and harmful things from them.

Steam erupts from the container holding the fallen soldier as you and the others gathered just around. You were trying to rid the image of a naked Hughie and the fact that your friends had been taking temp V. 24 hours they said, like hell did they know what effects it would have on them. The more they take said drug, the less of themselves they seem to be. Your eyes squinted as you looked a bit inside the box.
As the cold air rids the fog clouding your vision, you and the others are able to get a good glimpse of what's inside. M.M's breath hitch as he gains a glimpse of a brunet figure inside. "Soldier Boy...." He murmurs, less excited and more uncertain. You take a step back, preparing yourself if you need to. The sound of a mask falling onto the floor echoes as the man steps out, pulling any and every form of restriction off his body.
He staggers out, glancing at everyone before his eyes fall on you temporarily. "It's okay," Frenchie tries to reason, making it known that you weren't a threat. Well, the man wasn't exactly sure of what was going on, nor did he recognize any one of you. You only blinked once and the entire mission had gone to shit. A bright, orange light casted out everyone's faces before everything went dark.
The only sound heard in the hallways was the strange man escaping. You hovered over Kimiko's powers with disbelief, Frenchie screaming to the others. "Kimiko! Wake up!"

"Where the hell have you been? You haven't answered any of my texts or calls all week." Ashley runs behind you as you push through the crowds of people in the halls. The sound of her ranting about Homelander and the current performance, fades to the back of your mind like background noise. You head towards your room to clear your head and to prepare to find Soldier Boy with the others.
The mission didn't turn out as what you had expected. Now that Soldier Boy is out, you have to keep a lookout, especially before Homelander finds out. "Ashley, I told you before that I had a family emergency." You tell her once more, given that Annie had to take your place for the time being. "I'd expect you of all people to understand that, seeing that I made a notice ahead of time."
Ashley isn't satisfied and her blue eyes skimmed your face for any signs of deception. "For two weeks? I mean, I'm sorry for whatever you're going through, but that's no reason for being gone so long..." She huffs, trailing off on her words. You rubbed your temples as the mask retracts from your face. It hadn't been a day since you've gotten back and you heard nothing but bitching and complaining from all over.
First Ashley, then A-Train, and now The Deep stating you were just a bad influence on the company overall. You wouldn't even be surprised to hear Homelander get on your case next, but so far you haven't heard anything all day.
"...Think of the people. Think of the people who are eager to see the success of HomePanther." She continues, exaggerating the disappointment that thousands of people would feel. Truth be told, you didn't give a damn about those opinions. 'HomePanther' makes you cringe from the fact that people truly believed you both were together, unaware that it was just a PR stunt to boost Homelander's ego.
"People are here to see HomePanther, not Homelight—"
"Okay, Ashley. I get it. Can we discuss this another time?" Your fists slammed the table from frustration and pure irritation. The woman stops talking, startled from your sudden outburst. You felt bad for snapping as she was just doing her job, but there was a time and place to discuss said things. Nodding her head, Ashley keeps her tablet and clipboard clutched to her chest as she leaves your room.
The door doesn't close automatically, instead it invites the person you didn't really want to see at the moment. Sensing the tension in the air, Homelander walks through with his hands clasped behind his back. His foot closes the door quietly while he approaches your form. At first, he stays quiet to give you a sense of peace.
"Someone is in a rather foul mood," He murmurs, trailing his finger over the material of your suit and towards the exposure of your neck. "Haven't seen you in quite a bit." It tickles, all while it sends shivers down your spine.
"I was starting to become lonely without you here," He tells you, searching for a reaction. Any reaction that will help boost that nasty ego of his. You hummed at the implication of his words, too tired to really engage with anything that he deemed to be intimate.
"Lonely is an overstatement when you're surrounded by the Deep and Noir. Most of the time, that is." You point out, and Homelander scoffs as if you had offended him like you killed his entire family. Noir was tolerable and someone Homelander could rely on. The Deep however, well he's just an annoying piece of shit who could never shut the fuck up.
That is definitely something you both are willing to agree on. "Please, they're as useless as they look..." Homelander mutters, directing the sharp jab of words towards the Deep. Homelander presses his front against your back with his hands navigating to rest on your hips. Stressed you were, he can easily tell from the way your body language had changed. That's something he planned on figuring out.

Green eyes skim the streets of the city, taking notice of the modern times he is in. Things changed, and the times he had once known were now forgotten.
