High Nights

"We don't have to say, "I love you," every day, at least not in words. He and I know how sweet it is to love in silence and so we love each other daily. You ask how does he know that I love him without saying it with my lips? Because he reads it. Because I love what he loves and I make it mine. Because I am interested in knowing him so much that I read his favorite books. Because I write him. Because he knows that I think about him every moment that he is not with me and I imagine him. Because I listen to our music when the minutes of the day pass and I am engrossed in my daily chores. Because when I see or hear something beautiful I share it with him. Because when I look up I remember how much he likes to look at the sky whether it is full of clouds or stars. Because I open my heart in total vulnerability even though I have been injured so grievously.  Because I am transparent. Because in word and deed I am consistent. Because I let him fly free and at ease. Because I respect his loneliness and his time. Because we have such a connection that he hears and feels me even though we are far. Because we are mirrors. And I could go on and on like this, giving you a thousand reasons why he knows that I love him, but I only smile thinking that I never needed to tell them to him...... he already knew them."
