Our idea for our garden was to cover the dirt with garden fabric and put mulch in. We waited so long to put the mulch in that the strong winds came and pretty much ruined the fabric we laid down. Despite all of that our vegetables grew nicely.

At this point everything is past the seedling stage and I am realizing I shouldn’t have used the entire pack of seeds of my tomatoes and zucchini plants. I even had to give some plants away to neighbors and family. I removed many of the tomato plants and transplanted them to other parts of the garden, some even went to the trash bin and I still had too many tomatoes.
This was absolutely the best time ever! My family came over for Mothers Day and I was able to feed them some yummy veggies. My sister had us laughing taking these pictures as she was pretending it was a real photo shoot of some kind. We had fun sharing life together.
Wow! It’s been a long summer and I totally forgot to post my garden pictures. Here is the journey of my little garden after I planted my seedlings. I’ll try to post more within the next few days.
Almost done getting the room ready for the school year. I’ve got some more things to put up on our focus wall but I’m waiting on our core curriculum to come in the mail. Singapore math and McGraw Hill (Wonders) for language arts. Otherwise, we’re off to a good start :)

Yesterday afternoon was chilli but not too cold. A light jacket was all that was needed. I rested in my garden while the kids painted pictures in the garage. By the evening is was hailing at my house. None of the weather reports said a thunderstorm was coming just some light rain. My first thoughts were how cool! The same feeling that I had when I was a kid…this was the closest I was gonna get to snow at my house living in Southern California. Then I thought about my plants!…the seedlings I transplanted that afternoon and the seeds I sowed in the last couple days. Each of those seed packets said plant after the risk of frost has passed. I ran outside to try and move the ice off the lettuce and other plants. Then I decided to hose the ice down to melt it. I'm glad I got out there when I did. Some of the leaves are cracked or chipped from the hail but I think they still have a chance.
I needed some more pots for gardening but didn't want to pay a fortune. I saw these large white laundry baskets at the dollar store and thought they'd work just fine. I lined them with burlap and filled the bottom with white packaging foam so it can drain well. Then got started planting my veggies. All I had to buy in addition to the baskets was more soil. I had everything else on hand at home.
Thankful for the rain and my little seedlings growing.
I saw this on Pinterest and thought I'd give it a try. I have a dying cherry plum tree out front that has to be cut down. So I thought I'd use its wood for a better purpose. These will be name tags for my fruits and veggies this year.
We got some dirt from our local farmers in Ontario, CA and filled our garden beds. Last year I found out I have terrible soil that doesn't drain well. So everything will be done above ground this year. The farmers at Amy's Farm were kind enough to give me some gardening tips. We put holes in the bottom of our old book shelves first so the water can drain properly.

My husband helped me build a wooden frame from old fence pieces. And we're using palates and old book shelves to garden as well this year.

We made it to the 100th day of school!! So proud of my gals. They’re doing a good job on school work. AND just yesterday my first grader said she was glad she is in homeschool. They are starting to see the benefits for themselves. So Happy!
Had fun building a robot with my Sofia. She is so excited to build things that move! #familytime #robots # buildingisfun #science
