I explained Jason Todd lore to a friend of mine (for the term paper I'm writing), and I've never seen them so horrified. Truly a breath of fresh air that a normal person who isn't biased towards any of the characters (because they've never heard of them before) would come to the conclusion that Jason is being treated insanely terrible all by themselves. Only needed to recap aditf, utrh, and bftc.
Never seen a person so concerned as when I said "Dick plays that message from their father where he says that Jason is a failure which made Jason freak out because it exposed potential csa trauma AGAIN, so Jason kills himself in front of him and Dick later monologues that some people just aren't strong enough to change." Or when they asked how old Jason was when he died and I said, "they later retconned it to being fifteen, but in death in the family, he's actually 12/13." Or, "Jason gives Bruce a choice to either let him kill the Joker or kill him to stop him. So Bruce throws a batarang, and it slits Jason's neck so much that he lies on the floor, bleeding out. To this day, we don't actually know what he was aiming for. Anyway, Joker explodes the building, and the art insinuates that Jason dies here. In a way, Bruce killed Jason again. Potentially."
It goes to show that people who aren't in this fandom really wouldn't fuck with our main characters. And that the people on twitter who will kill you with stones when you start insinuating that Jason's being victim blamed by the writers to keep the moral authority of Batman alive are just lost in the sauce because they can't fathom their faves being instrumentalised to do that. If you look at the comics with a completely neutral perspective (though being explained shit by me, a Jason Todd fan, tbf), it's impossible to side with the 'heroes', and you WILL deeply question the intentions of the writers and DC as a whole.
