they know his approach before they see him. it's a curious sensation, this force. he rises like a star on the horizon, and for some reason lyn swears his constellation is one they've seen before. there is a rightness to his presence, not quite a comfort but a certainty. like finding level footing after losing balance. and he too, can see without sight, can track them among stars, but this they forget. they wave at @jedinct, half in greeting, half to make sure he can see them in the little patch of shade they've found to do business. "is this her siccing you on me again?" they call over, though they seem unbothered by it. partially because they do not mind his company, but mostly because their attention still focused on the parts laid out before the by eager jawa traders. some of the pieces they don't recognize, and not because they've been sandblasted beyond any identifiable shape, but one, a droid part, they keep coming back to. it, like so many things, feels familiar, and they've looked back to it enough times that they're sure the jawas are going to scalp them on the price. "i don't know what it is you jedi do to unwind," they continue, lowering their voice as he draws near, "but i swear - bastila needs to do more of it."

a year ago, they'd been known as darth revan. a stark contrast to the companion obi-wan finds himself with day-to-day, lyn. behind each smile he presents them with is masqueraded with grief, agony, & failure. a failure to the jedi order, to himself, to the core principles he believes in. what the jedi order is doing isn't right, nor is it easy to contain himself to the lie of a life he's built for himself. [but balancing the force between light & dark, jedi vs. sith, isn't easy either.] he'd been on the ebon hawk with bastila, an order given to check in their companion — the underlying layer behind the sentiment reading, make sure they haven't ran off. after making his way off the ship & the landing platform, he begins to make his trek into the planet of tatooine, eventually finding lyn conducting business with a group of jawas. with a plastered smile & guilt swallowed, he returns the wave meekly, a chuckle trailing behind as he approaches. ❛ what is it that you do? after all, you are a jedi now. you have a say in what's considered unwinding. ❜ voice lowered, digits fumbling with the tips of his beard, his eyes retreating back onto the jawas & sprawled parts in front of them. not entirely out of his expertise. if his padawan was here, he'd be having a field day.

years ago, a memory had fluttered through obi-wan's mind — an exchange with his former master. qui-gon had once told him not to center on his anxieties, a sentiment he'd taken into the war with him. he knew his ideas often went against conventional thinking, sometimes thanks to his former padawan rubbing off on him, but he was convinced of one thing : if they could be the key to winning the war, then so be it. looking at the other jedi master, a calm expression etched across features, obi-wan leans forward slightly as his hands rest on the table in front of them. ❛ the separatists are expecting a direct assault on their main fleet. they have prepared for this eventuality & are confident in their ability to repel any attack. ❜ a pause, right eyebrow arching as he allows his words to sink in.

he'd retired from the life of an assassin many years ago, choosing instead to live a peaceful existence in the remote suburbia of new york — far away from the violence & chaos that once ruled his life. but now, as he looked out at the stygian horizon of new york city, the beaming lights & glitzy aura of the empire state, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of perturbation. something was calling to him. a sense of purpose or destiny that he couldn't quite place his finger on, perhaps a courtesy from his friend — john wick, the one who had managed to wind him up in this peculiar situation in the first place.

his time with anakin skywalker had proved useful when it came to the myths of the jedi. their force users did much more than what was required of chiss girls who commanded the third sight ⸻ anakin had the same precognition as that of a chiss sky-walker. he wondered if all force users wielded this powerful weapon of the mind. when they were together, the republic general had mentioned his mentor, obi wan. an upstanding man, one who believed in the power of the republic and the jedi. the man himself sounded like someone thrawn would enjoy the presence of, picking at his mind and opinions like he had with the general during their time on batuu.

he had been dubbed the negotiator during the clone wars for his ability to communicate; even through the tensest situations, he consistently succeeded. in this case, an awkward circumstance had been presented to him. this was not out of the ordinary for obi-wan, nor was it irregular for anakin to trap him in such a scenario— what was, however, out of the ordinary was the presence of a chriss captain outside of csilla. while anakin had spoken the details of his encounter with thrawn, the jedi master couldn't help but wonder how they managed to form their camaraderie enough for thrawn to travel. (especially on a mission to retrieve the senator of all matters.) ultimately, the details didn't matter. what mattered was the current situation, one that causes obi-wan to stroke at his beard, his head nodding as the male spoke. ❛ i see... well, in that case, welcome to coruscant. your proficiency in basic is impressive, considering it's not your first language. i assure you, your dialect is not an issue. ❜ he returns thrawn's smile, an eyebrow raising at particular words— observing the jedi? that caught obi-wan's attention, though not with hostility, only pure curiosity. what could the ascendancy want to know about the jedi? he was unfamiliar with their customs, one of the few planets he hadn't ever traveled to— before the war or during. curiosity piqued, his head cocks ever slightly to the side.
