I admit, getting this was a surprise, and I very much thought about ignoring it because well... I haven't finished a fic in five years (though I'll admit those five years encompassed no less that seven major life-changing events), and when I look at my AO3 it's pretty weak compared to everyone else I talk to on here. 😅
But nevertheless, here's a few.
Say You Will (Or That You Wish You Could) - Attack on Titan, JeanMarco, 115,779 words
If I have ever done anything that left a mark on a fandom, it's this fic. It happened like magic, like nothing I've written before or since. It's the biggest thing I've ever done, and I still marvel at it. Marco Bodt, the gateway drug you are, and you didn't even make it halfway into season one. This was my first love letter to Attack on Titan, to all the characters that I still adore, and I'll always be proud of it.
This Time I Won't Miss You - Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin, Pieck/Porco, 3800 words
I admit I peaced out from the manga when the Marley arc started, and I never imagined I'd become attached to any of them, but Pieck and Porco did something to me, and I'm still in pieces about it. Fun fact, two or three days before writing this I had an absolutely enormous crash out, permanently suspended writing another fic, and announced that I would never write again. And then this just spilled out. Mild hyperbole, perhaps, but this fic saved my life.
My Breath Near Deathless Ever At Your Side - Attack on Titan/Shingeki no Kyojin, Eruri, 3971 words
Levi Ackerman is my favorite character ever. I know that's not a particularly hot take, considering, but the absolute depths of primal violence, care, devotion, and sadness that he carries fascinates me like no other. Because of who he is and who I am, and the things each of us find difficult to face within ourselves, this is probably the most personal fic I've ever written (which is saying a lot considering how much of myself went into the other two on this list). It took time to get it (nearly) right, but I feel like it's as close to grace as I dare venture. My partner did the art for it and I have it as a tattoo now. If you ever read one fic of mine, please let it be this. (You should also listen to Clint Mansell's score for the movie "The Fountain" if/while you read it.)
