A quick one for NYC4CEDAW, working towards big things in 2016.:a city ordinance to ensure the rights and safety of over 4 million women and girls of NYC.

Cover design and 44-page report highlighting disparities in language-access for public housing residents in NYC. 4 executive summaries were also laid out, in English, Bangla, Korean and Chinese.

The FTFC (my friends’ coed soccer team) crest was one of my first attempts at logo design, back in 2010. Awful:

Footy Tuesday Football Club.

Shape of the FC Barcelona crest, because our squad is lousy with cules, and in 2010 they were the gold standard for how to play the game. Roughly outlined, a la the scrappy DIY punk vibe I was going for.

We had an inside joke about the word Bloodhead (Meena was describing a blood-filled sculpture after a Tuesday night pickup run, we said it sounded like Jamaican slang or a word for super hardcore...”We got bloodhead on ‘em!”).

We were a little rough and violent - hence the demon skull and swear marks.

2010, the first year our pickup squad - which began congealing in 2006 - joined and terrorized a rec league with full body fouls, diminutive wringer lady ballers, and thunderous volleyed golazos.

So in 2015 it was time for a new crest...

Clean, minimalist. “Show don’t tell the story.”

1 color, so it can be screenprinted on - and thus washed without fussing, unlike the vinyl cut / heatpress necessitated by the more colorful original crest.

NYC!

Referring to the pickup games on caged turf fields that we've played hundreds of by now.

Stars, for stars we typically play under, and for all the people that have rocked the FTFC orange over the years. Like the stars over NYC, you can’t see them but they’re there (whoah, deep).

Tribute to the Gangsterdam men’s team where so many of our guys sharpened their games.

Silhouette of the beautiful, iconic Hell’s Gate Bridge, which FTFC plays its league games under at Randall’s Island.

2006, the year we started kicking around, first as Soccer Sunday at Riverside Park, which soon became Footie Tuesdays at Booker T. Washington on 107th.

THIS E-FLYER WAS NOT USED.

A quick fun one for an event happening the night before the iconic annual Donuts Are Forever 9 party in honor of The Great J Dilla. DJ Tara is affiliated with the crew that does the party, and the client (NOT from the DAF crew) requested a flyer that playfully bootlegged their designs. Munchkins = junior donuts sorta thing. 

We decided it was too close to the original and best not to go there. But I like the look, so it goes in the portfolio with an asterisk.

Based out of the NY Tsurphu Goshir Dharma Center in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, the RPDP has been growing slowly and organically at Rikers Islan since 2014. They needed a logo to go with their new website.

*The client specified that the name of the dharma center be included in the logo. Luckily NYTGDC already had a logo hand-drawn by the superdope Queen Andrea, a personal favorite:

So I stripped out the Goshir, and worked it into a simple square design.

The enso is a very common image in meditation/yoga stuff...

So I worked out a squared up remix, leaving open a corner.

Some simple sans serif lettering (no need to go heavy-handed with “jail” fonts)...

A small social media-friendly adaptation is easy enough...

Man City/NYCFC, ya blew it. You said this new team was going to feel like a unique team, not a Man City Junior. They spoke of local flavor and local significance for their new team, set to begin playing in Yankee Stadium in 2015.

Then they debuted the home kits...oh well. At least the away is kinda cool. So much for stealing the Red Bulls' (bland, corporate) thunder.

NYC and the soccer world nodded cynically. Expected. Depressing. ZZZZZZ.

Personally, I think it's comical for a new BX-based soccer team partially backed by the Yankees to not rock pinstripes. 

So, here's what I'da done, and why...

Navy blue. Yankee blue. Not Man City Blue. Yankee Blue. This is the Bronx, this is NYC. We are nobody's JV squad. You kidding me?!

Light grey, not white. Instant vintage. White's for the bulls.

NYC lettermark cut out. The circular badge is not original or memorable. But the interlocking NYC letters, alone, sitting on the pinstripes? Beautiful. Instant iconic (in my opinion).

Light kit, dark socks. Because that looks fresh. Sevilla knows.

No last names on home kit. Yankee Stadium tradition, fool. Iconic af.

Adidas original logo and throwback style. They'd never do it but they should. Bronx, birthplace of hip-hop, classic Adidas, come on.

Pulling out the pentagons (5 Boroughs) from the NYCFC circular crest as trim on the shorts and socks.

THAT'S local relevance. THAT'S working with what's there. And it'd sell TONNNNNNS. It'd hit ubiquitous status so quick. Not like that powder blue nonsense.

And the away kit, definitely New York Black:

NYC deserves better jerseys than FC Soda Clones and Man City Jr.

Show Landon, jerry west. Why 3 stars? One star, we're aiming to be the best. League, National team. Say it own it. And right with that a 96 for the age of this league. Young and growing and coming for the number 1 spot!

WHAT ABOUT CANADA?! Got ya, eh!

13" x 19"  cardstock posters with matching social media icons.

Used in ROC United's One Fair Wage / #notonthemenu campaigns for equal wages and a harassment-free workplace for women restaurant workers.

Based on the I AM A MAN civil rights era poster:

I drew the letters to be an exact match:

Posters and social media icons for a ROC United campaign against the harassment of restaurant workers. 

The client wanted a silhouette with a “red light district” feel to it.

It was effin' awesome watching all-time great Thierry Henry suit up for the local boys the past 4.5 seasons. So many pretty goals and assists, pity the team never signed an equally legendary playmaker to dance with him. Even still, he brought unforgettable fire, class,  unintentional comedy, and Metro's first ever piece of silverware!

AND he made his own custom Metro-colored captain's armband!

TH14 METRO LEGEND. So to honor The Man, I made a white/red Metro jersey a la the RBNY main kit and did some customizing:

A Metro armband and King TH14 stenciled on, and an African-American flag where the MLS jerseys features the standard one. A fitting tribute to the black king of Red Bull Arena.

Thierry, if you're reading this, just say the word and I'll make you one. It's the least I can do! Good god we miss you already.

Red Bulls, if you're reading: please put an Henrying statue on the flagpole outside RBA.
