PAST
Born and raised in Fallbrook in the small neighborhood of Eris.
His parents were both drug addicts and somehow the male was lucky enough not to get any sort of scratch to dabble in the drug himself.
His neighbor was a major reason that he was able to survive on his own for as long as he did, the woman came over a lot of the time to make sure he had clean clothes and some food to eat.
If there was one thing Jayden was good at was school, it was one his escape from the world so he poured everything he could into it, shocking most of the people in his class about how ridiculously smart he was.
Once he got old enough to understand more about what his parents did with their spare time, when they couldnât get high themselves he helped him.
After his twelfth birthday, someone found out the condition he was living in and called CPS and when they came to find his parents strung out on the couch and him sitting in front of the coffee table, watching some game show and doing his homework, they pulled him immediately out of the home.
His uncle heard about what had happened, came to Fallbrook and got custody of him, wanting to provide the best care for him possible.
After his uncle got a little place is Eris, he opened up a mechanic shop and had Jay come down every day to learn something new about cars.
It didnât take long for Jay to know everything there was about a car like the back of his hand.
He graduated with honors and got a job at the mechanic shop.
PRESENT
Recently started to date Abigail Morrison who is way out of his league and he knows it.
He still works at the autoshop and has his degree in automotive technology.
He tends to bounce around from being a mechanic to setting up appointments and scheduling the walk ins whenever they are low staffed.
The one thing Jay has no idea about is that his uncle is getting sick and the one stable thing in his life is about to lose against the clock.
Has no idea he has been getting close to his biological father.

Abigail wanted to ask him if he ever even loved her, but she wasnât ready for the answer. It was a double edge sword however he answered, so why ask? Had he hurt as much as her or was it a way out of the relationship inside of a mistake? She wasnât supposed to trust anything that came out of his mouth anymore. Abigail gave him a look that said they both knew better than his I would never. âWhy do you always defend her so much?â She wanted to be mad or jealous about it, but she was tired of the way he made her feel. She spent their entire relationship trying to prove to him that he was more than his parentâs mistakes and never realized that she was the one who never met his expectations. âYeah.â Abi nodded in defeat. âOkay well everyoneâs got stuff going on at home. Donât they?â Abigail pointed off with both thumbs. âMaybe I should go.â She saw no point in sticking around to chat like he wanted if he wasnât going to be honest with her.Â
...
Jay turns his head to look over at Abigail. âSheâs my friend too, Abigail.â His words are soft as if heâs trying not to rub the fact in her mind especially if she thinks that Chelsea is the one that he slept with. He shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Exhaling, the man shakes his head at her words. âDonât...â He brushes his tongue along his lower lip as he steps closer, reaching out but pausing before his hand made contact with her arm. âIt wasnât Chelsea. Just... some chick at a party. She was high, I was drunk.â He swallows as he pulls his hand away from her. âI donât have an excuse for what I did, Abigail. Not a single one.â He lifts his eyes up towards her. âAnd I donât know how to... even begin to help you understand it.â
In a town as small as Fallbrook, Astrid had her doubts about his claim but didnât call him out on it. The guy had something dark in his stare and it matched the dead thing in hers. It made her feel like he was the first person she met in Fallbrook with potential for friendship or whatever. She pushed a wind swept strand of hair out of her face and took a drag from her cigarette too. Astrid nodded, she didnât know anyone who didnât like taking in the ocean breeze every now and then. âYouâd be fucking weird if you didnât.â That filter most people had wasnât installed in Astrid as a child. âYeah? So you work nearby.â The blonde didnât mind their silent moments. Growing up in a household full of loud people and city traffic as a constant buzz made her enjoy those moments when the world went mute for a bit. âMaybe you should get my number and let me know the next time you want to dig your toes in sand and stare at the waves.â

...
Jay chuckles lowly under his breath as he brings his cigarette up to his lips, placing it between his lips. âIt would be fuckinâ weird for someone to come to the beach if they hated it.â He knows sheâs not referring to his comment about not knowing a single thing thatâs happening in the town because why would a kid from Eris know shit? He turns his head to look over at the blonde sitting next to him as he nods his head. âYeah, I work at the mechanic shop. My uncle owns it.â He takes puff of his cigarette, removing it from the space between his lips. âYou want to come to the beach with me more?â
Abigail stilled for a second when Jay looked at her after saying his full name. She thought he was about to scold her and she was prepped to snap back, but he ignored it. Her eyes softened the smallest amount when she realized that meant he was still okay with her having that part of him and she had no idea what to do with that information. She had to remind herself that it was easy enough for him to forget her when he cheated. The closure you need to move on. That was it. For being someone from Eris, Jay was never a fighter. Not even for her and she should never have expected him to be. Was she really crazy enough to think he was more than what they said about him the whole time they had been together? Everything felt like a lie, it made her furrow her eyebrows at him (just for a sec again). Abigail had to work to loosen her tightened jaw. âDonât take me for a fool, Jayden Hawkins. I saw her walk of shame.â
...
Jay didnât know how to fight for her at this point. How does he explain his actions in a reasonable manner? He fucked her ex-best friend while he was drunk at an Eris party and she was high. It wasnât his proudest moment and the fact it had hurt the woman next to him in a way he could never even imagined. How could he selfishly ask her to take him back when he watched the way she lit up around Marcos at the festival a few months ago? âI would never,â he shoves his hands into the pockets of his jeans. Even though in some way he did. By cheating on her, he turned her into a fool... Someone capable of letting the world know that he wasnât a piece of shit like they thought he was only to turn around and be one. âSheâs got some stuff going on at home. She needed somewhere to crash, thatâs it.â He lifts his eyes up towards her.Â

Chelsea gave a single nod, leaning back into her family van is as she looked down at the street beneath her feet. âDid you ever feel like you couldnât be yourself with her? Sometimes I feel like youâre the only one who sees the whole meâwhich sounds like a fuckinâ gross cliche but itâs fuckinâ true. Youâre the only one that can handle it.â She rambled a bit, mumbling bits to herself but knowing her could hear just the same as she kicked a few pebbles from under her. âIâve been lettinâ Wren Schneider hang around me a bitâbit too much. Ohâthatâs also why Abiâs pissed, thinks Iâm going after all her exesâŚâ Her head shook softly, knowing that she definitely deserved it. But if she were honest with herself, putting distance between her and Wren had more to do with how broken she was, than Abi. Though Abi served as an excellent excuse when she didnât feel like admitting that to herself. Chelsea only looked up when Jayâs hand suddenly came into view. Her eyes darted from his hand, to his eyes, before she understood. The woman took a breath, and reached out for the hand. The words that accompanied the gesture though, shocked her. Her head was quick to shake, âWhat on earth makes you say somethinâ like that? Like thank you butâI just donât wanna make trouble for you or Abi or whatever.â
...
Jay nodded his head a little, shoving his hands into his pockets. âNo one really understands what a shitty household feels like,â he muttered. âShe didnât have the best upcoming but itâs fuckinâ embarrassing to admit some of the shit weâve been through to people because then they look at you with that pity in their fuckinâ eyes...â He glanced in her direction. âIâm the only one who has been through it.â He scoffed, shaking his head at her words. âAbi is just taking out her pain and anger on anyone who crosses her path. I donât think it really has anything to do with you.â He told the brunette in front of him. âThe fact I didnât really... disclose who I decided to put my dick into... It might be making her wonder who the fuck it could have been... I also havenât been that great when it comes to flaunting new chicks around town so I think sheâs just expecting anyone to fuck her over since I did.â His hand wrapped around hers. âYouâve always put everyone above yourself including your fuckinâ dick head for a father.â He shook his head at her words. âI donât think Abi and I are gettinâ back together and even if they were. Youâre my friend, Chels. Nothing is going to change that.â
Jay brushed his tongue along his lower lip, shoving his hands into his pockets. âSame reason you donât let people in,â the shitty upbringing. His father was an aggressive drug addict with a mother who was non existent. All of those days at school where he got the low comment remarks about his dirty clothing and the way some of his teachers had began to bring him something to eat for lunch. His uncle having to pull him out of that situation when he was twelve but still the imprints lasted. To this day, the man still went to his parentsâ house and tried his best to take care of them. He cleaned up the house, cleaned up them and did some other things he wasnât proud of. Tia had been a walking reminder of his childhood and that night he realized⌠Abi was much better than the life he would provide her here. All kids ended up like their parents, right? He cleared his throat as he tilted his head down to look at his feet when she started to explain what happened. He furrowed his brows when she made a comment about how Abi and others were only friends with her because her mother died. He lifted his head as he took a step closer to her, pulling his hand out of his pocket and held it out towards her, the gesture was to let her know he wanted to take her arm or her hand or something but didnât want to make contact because of everything. âYouâre the most amazing woman Iâve ever met, Chels. Whatever Abi said out of anger was wrong. You have plenty of people in your life that arenât friends with you just because your mom died.â
