I was aware the question was vague (the "generally" was there to cover a bit my ass), I was interested in seeing the arguments for either way with some book bits insights 🤭 As usual, "depends on the situation" seems to be the widely accepted opinion, and I agree with it.

#ooh okay im late for the poll but im gonna give my two cents anyway.#i think that laurent has better situation-patience while damen has better people-patience.#there's ample evidence that laurent can wait sometimes for years to carry out an objective #but - with the notable exception of damen - he forms snap judgements on people #and immediately folds those assumptions into his plans as static information #which i think is a large factor in what makes him seem so ruthless - his plans don't account for people growing or having a change of heart #(perhaps because his brother and father became unchanging figures and the regent's treatment of him was consistent afterwards)#damen meanwhile is frequently shown to act on impulse and instinct but consistently - especially with laurent -#reevaluates the people around him and believes that they can and will evolve with time #the glaring contrast of course is his persistent refusal to believe that the people closest to him could have changed #in a direction he didn't expect and couldn't accept into his worldview #extra clarifying note on laurent that i cant pop into the right order bc im on mobile:#i didn't mean to imply that laurent didn't have a snap judgement formed about damen long before they ever met.#the contrast from his normal behavior is his (reluctant at first) attempts to realign that judgement #as he's presented with conflicting evidence #am i done? i think im done #we'll see.
