For some reason the nicer he was the more suspicious she was becoming, and with that holding so much of her focus she responded unconsciously with, “Estelle,” before clarifying after a few moments: “But Ellie- that’s what, um, that’s what everyone calls me. Used to call me, I suppose, considering… Though you can use whichever you like!” Thankfully her mouth finally listened to her brain and she stopped her nervous rambling there.
Jason just smiled a little as she rambled on. “Well, it’s nice to meet you Ellie. I’m Jason,” he replied. The sounds of the horde outside were beginning to get louder and he glanced back at the door. “We uh... we should probably find another way out of here. That couch won’t hold the door forever.”

Well, he wasn’t yelling, that was a start. “They didn’t come near enough to bite me, I’m fine. Just a bit shaken I think.” Shaken and very much aware that her gun was out of bullets. Though, he didn’t know that and she could always bluff if he had a sudden change of heart and this was all an act. “Do… do you live here?”
Jason nodded a little. “If you’re sure... well, that’s pretty understandable,” he replied, giving her a small smile.. “No. I was just here looking for supplies,” he replied. “I’m Jason, by the way.”
She was glad he didn’t waste time asking questions and soon the barrier was in place and Ellie felt like she could breath again. “Thank you…” She said with a relieved sigh. Now that she was momentarily out of danger her common sense was starting to come back once more, and it finally hit her that she was now stuck with this stranger. She took a step back and crossed her arms, wondering how he’d react now that the crisis had been dealt with. She had just lead those things right to him after all.
Jason let out his own sigh of relief once the door was barricaded, perching himself on the arm of the sofa. Hopefully it would hold and keep the both of them safe. “It’s no worries,” he replied, finally turning his attention to the other. “Are you alright?”

Ellie sprinted into the nearest building, more zombies than she’d been able to count not far behind. She hadn’t been expecting another person to be inside and only had a moment to be alarmed by their presence before she remembered herself. Locking the door she pointed to a ratty, but heavy looking couch in the corner, figuring it was better safe than sorry. “Help me drag that in front of the door!”
Jason had not long since reached the building himself. When the girl burst into the room he reached for his gun, expecting the intruder to be a walker. But when he realised she was alive, he pulled his hand away and immediately moved to help her with the couch.
She nodded, smiling a little, “I suppose that’s true. In fact, I think that’s very true.” She shrugged, “I think cruelty is the worst and since you helped me, I doubt you have that flaw.”
“I definitely like to think that I don’t have that flaw.”
Reggie half smiled, “True, but that seems like a fairly substantial flaw.” She laughed.
Jason shrugged a little. “There are worse flaws out there.”
“Honestly, I wish it only happened to me occasionally.” She half smiled, “But it happens… quite a lot.” She supposed when you were as small as she was, it was easier to get knocked over, because almost every walker she encountered seemed to be significantly bigger than she was. “I’m Reggie. It’s nice to meet you.” She smiled.
“Well... we all have our flaws, right?” He replied, grinning a little. “It’s nice to meet you too Reggie.”
Reggie smiled up at the stranger, as always, slightly heartened by the realisation that there were still people willing to help. She knew that one day, she would really need it and she wasn’t sure when that day would be. Things like this, they gave her hope. She wiped her hands off on her black jeans. “I try not to make a habit of getting knocked on my ass, but… it seems to keep happening.” She half smiled, her tone revealing that she was joking.
Jason let out a light chuckle. “It happens to everyone sometimes,” he replied, returning her smile. “I’m Jason, by the way.”

Killing the walker hadn’t been the hardest part, getting knocked on her ass was. Reggie hated being knocked over, she hated feeling small and most of all, she hated that moment of trying to get up when she wasn’t sure her legs were going to comply. When another survivor, whom she hadn’t realised was around, offered her a hand, Reggie was more than grateful. Having that help meant the pressure wasn’t all on her to get to feet all on her own. It also took her out of her own head about it. “Thank you.” Her voice was small as she brushed a bloodied curl away from her face.
Jason noticed the stranger get knocked down by a walker and honestly, it just wasn’t in his nature to leave without seeing if she was alright. By the time he actually reached her, she seemed to have taken care of the situation but nonetheless, he offered a hand to help her up. “Don’t worry about it,” he smiled.
Xander nodded, “You’d probably have to scavenge for one without walker guts or an excess amount of dust.”
Jason gave a small shrug. “Well, dust is easy enough to wash out- definitely easier than walker guts anyway.”
Xander shook his head, trying to contain his smile, “I don’t know, but if I could I’m not sure I’d want to keep it. Lord knows it would cause me nightmares.”
“Ah right,” he nodded a little. “Well, I mean- there’s plenty of other shirts out there that are up for grabs now. I’m sure you’ll find something you like.”
“I get that,” Xander nodded. “I had this Big Bang Theory t-shirt that got ruined thanks to the outbreak. I was a little disappointed.”
“That’s a real shame,” he replied with a small chuckle. “Can’t you find another one around here that’s similar?”

‘ you say that like i’m not the type to compliment people. ’ she ISN’T. not unless it benefits her, and this, this right here? it doesn’t. not really. she could be using this time for something more important, something she’s been berating herself for ever since the conversation started. ‘ you’ve probably done SOMETHING to deserve ‘em. tell me what it was. ’ so she’s digging. no harm in that, unless she chooses to make it harmful. which, knowing huan, she may very well do.
“You don’t exactly come across as it. But then again, that could just be me getting the wrong impression,” he replied with a small shrug. “I don’t... really think that I’ve done anything to deserve them, really.”
“They’re taking care of me alright? And I am taking care of myself, so yes Jason I will be perfectly fine.” She smiled a little. “I don’t see why you decide to stay on your own when you could join a group. I mean..what if something happens to you while I’m not there.”
Jason smiled back a little. “I know, I know... I just can’t help worrying, okay?” He sighed a little. “I...” he paused for a moment, hesitant about his answer. He knew exactly why he didn’t want to join a group, but it was just sort of stupid really. It was false hope that was keeping him on his own. “There... there’s a couple of people that I’m hoping are still alive out there somewhere and I’ll be able to find them one day... and I want to be somewhere where there will be room for them if I find them. If I’m with a group, I can’t guarantee that they’ll take them in...”
