Jared nodded, blinking rapidly to keep try and get used to the bright sunlight “alright boss, lead the way then”

Lucifer smirked, downing his second drink and nodding “that’s what I do best, what do you have in mind?”

“A doctor!” Lucifer repeated with some admiration “It’s a fairly new practice down here, isn’t it? where do you normally practice?”

“Oh–as I said, in the Ninth Ring,” Dante said with a nod, carefully stirring his drink in his hand.  “I have an office only about an hour away from the Palace, can you believe that?  Such a valuable spot-”  

“is that so? It’s quite a remarkable spot, yes” Lucifer absentmindedly ordered another drink, not even looking at it before taking a sip from it “I suppose it was rather expensive”

“Well–not as expensive as one might believe.”  Dante shook his head, giving a humble shrug as he explained, “I rent the place; now, if I owned it, then that would be another story.”  He smiled a bit and finished off his drink in a final swig before ordering another; subconsciously keeping up with Lucifer and his own.  “Is there anything you like to do in taverns like this?  Any games, or things of the like that interest you?”  He laughed under his breath, adding, “Last I was here, people would collect all together and sing drinking songs with one another, that was a blast; people dancing on the bars and all that.  Definitely nothing you’d see in the Ninth-”

Jared rubbed his face as he got off the cot, catching up to Jeff after pulling his shoes on “alright, I’m right behind you, did you manage to sleep at all?” He asked, still groggy, trying to get a conversation going to fully pull himself to his senses

“Some.  How ‘bout you?”  Jeff kept things short, turning to a set of hooks on the wall next to the entrance and pulling down a camouflage vest.  He put it on, pulling at the hem to show Jared and telling him, “Bulletproof.  Stole it from a hunting section of a wholesale store before everything went to shit.  Maybe we’ll be able to find you one at some point.”

“Maybe so!” Jared pulled his jacket a bit tighter around himself, never losing the smile though “I slept well enough, honestly, almost forgot about the mess I would wake up to…so, where are we headed this fine and perfectly zombie free morning?”

“Yeah, let’s hope so” Jeff muttered, without much semblance of said hope.  He passed Jared to go for his crossbow in the corner of the room, and once he’d picked it up, he did the same with a tin bucket, thrusting it into Jared’s arms.  “You don’t got any weapons, do you?”  He asked.  “‘Til we can get you some, your job is to collect any edible plants you can find; berries, roots, that kinda thing; got it?

Jared nodded, holding the bucked against his body without any objection “got it, boss” he said with a joking smile, following Jeff up the stairs “but I’ll warn you right now, if I come across any strawberries by some sort of miracle, I’m ignoring those”
