VERY happy my brain was finally able to connect clips to my favouriest song of all times but damn this was, respectfully, a bitch to make like not even the edit itself......the LYRICS.....bc my stupidass saw someone do something like this and went i will succeed because im gay and insane which #yeah true but still???????????? just saying sometimes you can also not do things #funfact
I genuinely love the fact that “Beyond Evil” wasn’t fast paced. It gave every character enough time to bring out their flaws and desperation. It was interesting how Lee Dong Shik handled the case. He was cunning in this. I mean, he wasn’t vocal about anything and was letting everyone think whatever they wanted. And I absolutely lived for Han Juwon’s character arc.
The slow burn was worth every minute. Honestly, this is my very first drama where I didn't skip any parts and eagerly sat through everything. It may not be for everyone, but this one is definitely one of the best series I have ever watched.
It depicted the flaws and corruption in the system and how bigger things are turned into “small mistakes” with money and manipulation. The twisted element brought it out so well. You can feel it in the bones how every one of those power-hungry people wanted to have everything under their shoe.
The cast was immaculate. The characters and the actors just blended in. The expressions were so thorough and gave a way for multiple questions. With each passing episode, I was on the edge of my seat. The second half, they made it very easy to find out who the real culprits were but the motive behind every action and all the dirty secrets… oh dear. LOVED IT.
Can I also take a moment and appreciate Yeo JinGoo’s microexpressions? The twitch in his eyes, cheeks and conflicting eyes… I'm genuinely swept. His character’s NEED to bring justice was played so freaking well. So admirable.
Watching Shin Ha-kyun was so satisfying. You could really tell that he was in pain throughout and his warmth towards the people he loved.
I love it. I'm glad I watched “Beyond Evil”.
Pinterest notifications are a whole other beast. “You have perfect taste” and the thumbnail is a picture of Joowon having a panic attack
My latest summer ailment: beyond evil has rotted through my brain and any moment of stillness leads to me shutting myself away in my mind palace to pick away at what is probably one of the strongest character-driven works I’ve seen and contemplate the unforgettable tug Lee Dongsik and Han Joowon have left in my chest
The remedy: 4 1/2 hour Spotify playlist
Somehow I’m going to curate this thing so intensely that it simultaneously shares stylistic elements with the ost, resonates with the show’s visual atmosphere, reflects my own perceptions of beyond evil, AND channels jwds and their thinly veiled freakisms

And what if I did a Roman numeral analysis of the opening chord progression in Where The Streets Have No Name to show how from the second it begins The Joshua Tree album harmonically conveys the character of vast desert-like landscapes; the feelings of uncertainty and doubt that are sort of intrinsic to belonging in/moving through a place; the searching for home and/or faith in a contemporary word, all within just seven chords? What would happen then?
I cannot believe I am living to see the day I open MuseScore of my own volition and not at the whims of my music theory professor. But here we are.
Yeah so this idea turned into an approximately 4,000-word paper that I wrote for a final project in one of my courses. Might be one of the coolest things I’ve done (wore a suede vest for my presentation today to vaguely embody Bono’s TJT-era vest-wearing shenanigans)
Hopping back onto my echo chamber of reblogs to announce that the aforementioned 4,000-word paper mutated into a 25,000-word beast of an undergrad thesis that used the Zoo TV era as a catalyst to discuss the relation between how one might listen to pop-rock tonality and how metaphor is utilized in music theory texts. An absolute fever dream to write and I would do it again. My main takeaway: 30 seconds of plagal motion in a song’s intro can apparently make you do crazy things.
I’m keeping the thesis under wraps because I’d like to revise it and hopefully publish/present its contents in the future butttttttttt it’s been long enough since I wrote the 4,000-word thing that I’m considering sharing it with those who still hold interest in my TJT ramblings from two summers ago! I’ll make another blog post if I decide I’m comfortable sharing, whether it’s with the general public or on an individual basis for those who are interested, or a secret third thing.
“Definitely expect more U2 art,” I said ten months ago. Yeah, okay.
Academic writing has wrung my brain dry and I fear I’ve forgotten how to formulate normal and sound thoughts (was a good chunk of my total page count over this past year about or somehow inspired by U2’s discography? Well, yes. That’s a whole other can of worms though), BUT I’m trying to revisit this fixation of mine from a visual art angle once again.
(WIP) c. 1986-87ish (probably) Bono. Dimensions: gargantuan.
I don’t usually post wips but this Bono portrait has been sitting on my floor dormant since January and that needs to change. Maybe I’ll actually finish it if I show the masses. He’s about the size of my own face. He’s practically sentient.
Am I satisfied with the proportions yet? Ehh. But we’ll get there. I think I’m more so focused on the emotional subtleties with this one, and it’s my hope that the movement of color (the sort of aggravated coexistence of color as opposed to the impression of a blended surface) will invoke that. It has been interesting to approach drawing Bono particularly from the TJT era/TJT-adjacent eras in this way.
For those who are curious, I’m using soft oil pastels, which historically is one of my favorite mediums next to oil paint. The pastels I own are quite chunky, and I recall that five months ago, this was a nice exercise in accepting that I cannot dictate every fine detail in a portrait, because that’s an entire human being on paper.
And here’s a better look at the details for my fellow U2 enjoyers. The contour of his nose is very satisfying in this one. No chin unfortunately, though I think the hand makes up for it.
Huge shout to my friend from an undergraduate philosophy program who started working out every single day, not for health benefits or to become conventionally attractive or whatever, but because -- and this is a direct quote -- he was concerned that otherwise he might "become lost in the world of signs and forget the things they signify". I have thought about this every single time that I've worked out since.

Yeah it was like my third top song on wrapped we don’t need to talk about that.
Plus there’s a really striking dialogue between the pipes and guitar toward the end of the track!
